About Lidia's Pittsburgh

Lidia’s Pittsburgh opened in March of 2001, only two years after Lidia Bastianich and her son Joseph Bastianich opened the popular Lidia’s Kansas City, their first venture outside of Manhattan.

Lidia’s Pittsburgh menu concept is a combination of the New York restaurants, Felidia and Becco.

Lidia's is located downtown in the strip district near the Heinz History Center, Benedum Center, Heinz Hall, Byham Theater, PNC Park, and PPG Paints Arena so it's the perfect place to enjoy a great meal before your event.

The menu features a daily pasta tasting, with homemade pastas that incorporate the season's freshest ingredients in addition to hearty Italian favorites such as the osso bucco, a braised heritage pork shank with barley risotto, the scallopine of chicken breast with roasted lemon, capers, and olives, and grilled salmon filet with seasonal contorni.

Lidia’s is always consistent in value for the money: wonderfully prepared Italian food and attentive service. It’s a great place for groups.

Very average food for big money. My expensive steak was no better than you can buy at a chain steakhouse. My wife’s pasta was average at best. Very disappointed.

Had dinner at Lidia’s last Thursday night, and it was possibly the worst fine dining experience we’ve had. We’ve never had issues with Lidia’s and have always thought it to be a good and classy restaurant – not any more. It appeared that the “A team” of employees were at the Steeler’s game, as the staff was nowhere near the classy and competent crew that we would expect at a restaurant of this caliber.
The experience started out when my wife ordered a Sparkling Rose’. The first glass was flat, and there was not another chilled bottle in the cooler. Then, we were seated in the dining room at a very wobbly table that had to be fixed. I noticed that my water glass had a speck of food on it.
We ordered a bottle of wine and an appetizer. The bread basket and dips were literally dropped on our table with no explanation. Wine glasses were delivered, and mine was dirty. We are now going on about 20 minutes with no wine. Our waitress had to go check and came back with the old “we are out of that one”, and said that the manager/sommelier would come out to help us select a replacement. More time, no wine. Finally, the “sommelier” arrived with 2 options. I did mention that we were a bit frustrated after sitting at our table for over 30 minutes with not wine. He did choose a suitable replacement. We saw him one more time to refill my glass, not my wife’s, and that was it!
I had the baked ziti and meatballs, and it was terribly underwhelming. The meatballs had huge, pieces of gristle in 2 of the 3 meatballs I ate. My wife had the lasagna with Bolognese, and it was by far the better dish although the sauce was bland . The waitress was very apologetic and offered a free dessert . We accepted, and it was not great either. Needless to say, this experience did not sit well, and we will not be returning. This may have been an isolated incident, but it doesn’t matter in today’s Pittsburgh dinner scene as there are so many other, and apparently better options for my $125!

Excellent food. Very long time between concluding dinner & ordering dessert. Then a delay in serving dessert. Very disappointed as this was my son's 16th birthday.

We came for a pre theater dinner on a Monday, traditionally not a busy night for restaurants. We were hoping to enjoy the pasta trio, which is a favorite of ours. The trio selections did not appeal to me but my daughter enjoyed hers. I enjoyed my entree, but was disappointed in the service. I hope it was a new waiter. He was really trying, but missed the mark several times. It ended with an error on the bill, which he readily fixed. None of the "misses" were major. It's just not the quality of service we are accustomed to at Lidia's.

Came for a Business dinner to experience the tableside service . We ordered then3 course with salad and dessert. We also added calamari . The calamari is tasteless there were more fried vegetables the calamari and shrimp . Are salads all different sizes some people had gigantic portions what others had small ones some had cheese some did not . We could not rectify the situation because the server never asked if anyone would like crushed black pepper or how the salads were . Ordering the tableside service is like playing Russian roulette there’s a great chance of getting knocked in the head by a pan or burn by it as they come over your shoulder and never indicator there . Desserts were extremely small. Do not know if there was a manager on duty that night because his or her presence was not known throughout the restaurant because no one came to check on ourtable or as we observed anyone else’s . Possibly myself or standpoint after spending close to $600 on dinner I expected the service level to be a tad bit higher . If you go definitely avoid the calamari and the tableside service meal and forgo dessert because you will be extremely disappointed

Visited Becco in New York the week before, and the food was fabulous. Was very disappointed in Lidia's in Pittsburgh. After a 25-minute wait past our 7:30 reservation, we were finally seated. The hostess quickly apologized and offered one appetizer on the house (there were 4 of us in our party). The appetizer was burrata, which we found to be dry. Our entrees were not appealing, as the 3 course pasta presentation left something to be desired. Two others in our party ordered the Saturday night special, which was a braised pork chop. They came out together, but one was hot and the other was barely room temperature. The best things were the bread sticks and spreads and the tiramisu. The wait staff could not have been nice, but the food definitely fell short. This was my first time in Pittsburgh, and if and when I ever return, I am sad to say I would not return here.

My wife and I were quite disappointed. We had looked forward to an enjoyable evening at a top Pittsburgh restaurant. However, both the service and the food was sub-par. We ordered an appetizer of beef carpaccio with black truffles - $34 special that was highly recommended by the server. However, even though half a truffle was shaved on to the dish table-side, there was very little if any truffle smell! We don't mind paying premium prices for fine food but this was outrageous. The entrees, osso bucco and fish soup were OK but undistinguished. As for service, the server was much to busy and rushed to really take care of us, as one expects at fine restaurants. Really too bad!!

My family and I celebrated my birthday. We had a wonderful time - had a very attentive server, despite how crowded the restaurant was and how many servers had called off. They topped off the night with a birthday dessert for me. Made my birthday something very special and memorable. Thank you!

Brought my college daughter and 3 friends out for a nice meal. The service was extremely slow. Had to ask for bread. Had to ask twice for water refill and all 5 glasses were refilled with cloudy, smelly water. Had to tell 2 people that my lasagna was cold before anything was done about it. Food was mediocre. Will not return.

Lidia’s is simply a great dining experience. Our bartender, Annon (sp?) was wonderful. When our friends arrived, we were promptly seated, and our server, Danielle, was awesome. If you like fresh pasta with an amazing selection of sauce options, this is your kind of place. My wife has to have a gluten-free diet, and they always have a great selection for her.

I thought overall the food was mediocre. The "roasted tomatoes" in the under-dressed salad tasted like pulverized raw tomato. I tasted a slice of shaved truffle from my friend's risotto and literally tasted nothing...how does a truffle taste like nothing? My son's steak was overcooked as was the broccoli. I'd say something is off at Lidia's; never been there before, but not what I expected.

We returned to Lidia for our second Pitt family weekend. The host and wait staff, especially our server Lori, were welcoming, gracious, and knowledgeable. The atmosphere was warm, upbeat and fun. The food was not as wonderful as last year. The bread was not served warm and one type was stale. The beef carpaccio appetizer was a standout, but my partner’s vegan pasta was bland, and the pasta tasting selections were less varied and exciting as before. Lori’s warmth and great wine recommendations were welcome and overall, we enjoyed our evening very much.

We had high hopes for our visit to Lidia's based on the owners reputation. We were visiting Pittsburgh and on our last night (thinking we were saving the best for last) went to the restaurant. We were there early and the restaurant was about 1/3 full yet the staff acted as they were being rushed and frenzied. The restaurant is promoting that it is pasta month so we ordered the pasta special. We ordered salads that were very good and so was the bottle of wine. Since we were off to a good start we had high hopes. But - then came the pasta. It was a pasta trio sampling that was completely uninspiring. The sauces were watery and bland. There was absolutely no flavor to any of the pastas. I am used to eating in Italian restaurants and have come to expect that when the dish is served they immediately offer granted cheese and fresh pepper. Neither happened here and we had to flag down our disappearing waitress to ask for the cheese. The meal was not cheap and we felt a waste of our money. Maybe we are just used to and spoiled by NY/NJ restaurants. We will never go back to Lidia's since we only received Olive Garden (although I never ate at one) type food. With there being so many new and interesting restaurants in Pittsburgh there is no reason to go to Lidia's. The food down the street from her place in the Smallman Street Gallery is much better (and creative) and is from new chefs that deserve the support.
