About Lidia's Pittsburgh

Lidia’s Pittsburgh opened in March of 2001, only two years after Lidia Bastianich and her son Joseph Bastianich opened the popular Lidia’s Kansas City, their first venture outside of Manhattan.

Lidia’s Pittsburgh menu concept is a combination of the New York restaurants, Felidia and Becco.

Lidia's is located downtown in the strip district near the Heinz History Center, Benedum Center, Heinz Hall, Byham Theater, PNC Park, and PPG Paints Arena so it's the perfect place to enjoy a great meal before your event.

The menu features a daily pasta tasting, with homemade pastas that incorporate the season's freshest ingredients in addition to hearty Italian favorites such as the osso bucco, a braised heritage pork shank with barley risotto, the scallopine of chicken breast with roasted lemon, capers, and olives, and grilled salmon filet with seasonal contorni.

Our brunch waitress Laura was wonderful - attentive, knowledgeable, warm personality and genuinely wanted us to have our best possible experience.

Pasta was to die for, as was the dessert bar. Laura didn't bat an eye when we asked for tweaks to the pasta due to preferences.

We loved it, and look forward to returning the next time we're in PGH.

Service, value and ambiance was very good. Food was good, but felt overall 3 stars. Nothing really wowed me. Seems like a nice Italian spot. Def the pasta trio sampler is the way to go. Will visit this place again. I liked the experience and good selection and good priced bottles of wine.

Was good, I'd say just OK. With a little moe effort, could be much better. Food was OK, service was average, initial seating and greeting was poor, for example, had reservation but valet wasn't even there.

I won’t order/recommend sea bass...bland, as was sauce. Roasted vegetables very tasty but were quite al dente, making me work more than I care to when dining. A steak knife or sharp knife would have been helpful. The beet & blood orange salad was quite lovely, and the lemoncello tiramisu was nice. Wine suggestions & waiter helpful. Thanks!

Lidia’s is a great little spot at the strip District, not sure I would go on a date again and the atmosphere was not romantic and there was only a fixed menu the night we went which was a bummer. I would most likely come back for dinner with the kids.

Went for Valentine’s Day, they tried to shove us in upstairs area just at top of stairs. We requested a different table and they graciously accommodated. The meal was very good although it was a set four course which was not specified until the day before.
All in all the restaurant is lovely, the service good and food outstanding! We chose to do 45 dollar per person wine pairing , better off buying a bottle!

I've never been to a place where I didn't have to worry about knowing ahead of time if I'd like a dish--until Lidia's. Not only was there a sample dish for those testing the waters (pasta trio), but Lidia's shatters my idea of what I think I won't like every single time. Wasn't a fan of capers? Boom. They serve a fantastic dish with capers that I wind up loving. Not a fan of spicy? Boom. They find a way to make me love it and crave more! The wait staff knew the dishes well and could answer questions about ingredients. I would recommend Lidia's as a place where every meal is a wonderful adventure ending in a satisfied stomach pat.

Wonderful brunch experience!
Our server Lorie was very knowledgeable and her food recommendations were terrific.
Lorie has been our server twice. When we go to Lidia’s again we will definitely ask if she’s available.
Lidia’s is one of our favorite restaurants in Pittsburgh.

Everything was perfect: food, service, atmosphere. We had a wonderful time and a very delicious meal at a reasonable price. The braised pork was superbly tender and flavorful. The gnocchi was surprisingly light, not dense like most others. I highly recommend Lidia's to anyone who wants real Italian food (not just your every day pizza and pasta.)

We wanted to put Lidia's back on our list of stable favorite restaurants in Pittsburgh. We heard about the new chef from New York and decided to give it a try. Although the food was very good, it wasn't great. Although my husband thinks he should have stuck with his usual order, the pasta trio, which you usually cannot go wrong with. I have to say that the most notable downside was the wait staff. Although they were very friendly and eager, they constantly interrupted to ask if we were ready to order. We felt extremely rushed. The timing was off and we never felt like we could relax and enjoy ourselves. One waitress was trying to light candles for someone's birthday, which obviously is a very nice thing to do. But she hovered over my head for about 5 minutes while trying to light the candles with a small lighter. I was afraid she was either going to drop the cake on my head or light me on fire. Why wouldn't she light the candles in the kitchen rather than make a big scene in the middle of the restaurant? Our waiter was also a little unkempt. I mean, I am all for not judging a book by its cover, but when you are serving in a pricer restaurant don't you want someone who looks like they have good hygiene?

On Saturday, Feb. 3, my wife and I made a reservation at Lidia's for 7:15pm. We were seated promptly at that time. We ordered a cocktail and soon after ordered our entrees. After ordering our entrees the server brought over some bread. I took 2 bites of a piece of bread and suddenly our entrees arrived. I have literally wanted longer for food at a fast food restaurant. My wife and I enjoy Saturday evenings patronizing local fine dining restaurants in the Pittsburgh area and this particular evening was far from enjoyable. Obviously our pasta entrees were not made to order and are just sitting in warmers waiting for an order to come in; comparable to an Olive Garden.

We have dined at Lidia's several times in the past and never had an experience like the one we did on Saturday night. Before leaving we brought the issue to the attention of the manager and he dismissed it as something that is a regular occurrence. Stating a lot of people dine at Lidia's before a show/play and are short on time. We weren't going to a show nor did anyone ask if we were going to a show and needed to dine quickly. We were seated at 7:15pm and were done eating by 7:45pm, and I like to think we eat at a pretty normal pace.

I am not writing this email to get a refund or a gift card to try Lidia's again. I writing it to bring it someone's attention then when dining at a "fine dining" restaurant, I shouldn't receive my entree 10 minutes after being seated. People go to restaurants like Lidia's for the dining experience, atmosphere, and to enjoy the company of their table.

This was a very disappointing meal. We use to eat at Lidia's when it first opened, but it want downhill in about a year. We recently heard that they've upgraded their menu and quality. This didn't seem to be the case for our dinner. The Zuppe de Pesce was not hot, under spiced and the seafood was over cooked. The pasta trio was mostly overcooked pasta with weakly flavored sauces. The black truffle special was simply not good. Definitely not worth the money for corky, tasteless truffles.

Overall I would say this place is overrated
Pasta was good - not great
Hostess was borderline rude - not a good first impression
Bartender was very friendly so that improved the mood
Waitstaff was fine just wasn’t impressed by the selection or quality of the food for the price! Had 2 longtime Lidia’s recipe fans with us from out of town so they enjoyed the tourist element of it. No plans to return anytime soon though

My wife and I visited on a Friday evening and each ordered the 3-course pasta tasting trio. The evening started out well with good service, a great atmosphere, very nice staff, a good Caesar salad, and a nice bread basket with four choices. The pasta trio came out and we had our three small portions of each put onto our plates. While I wouldn't pretend to remember their formal names: the mushroom/chicken ravioli was outstanding; the hot pepper gemelli with a tomato sauce was good but screaming to have sausage or some other meat included; and the shrimp linguini was rather bland with overcooked tiny shrimp. Hitting on 1.5 out of 3 I guess isn't bad, but not what I would have expected.

Unfortunately the service took a nose-dive afterwards though, as we finished these first servings in ~10 minutes and our server said he'd have additional portions brought out immediately. However, after seeing food-runners with the three pasta trios around constantly through the entire night prior, they apparently disappeared for the next 35 minutes before we received additional portions. This wouldn't have been a big deal, and perhaps would have even been welcomed, if that had been the expectation or communicated or if we had ordered a bottle of wine, but it was very discouraging sitting there whilst every 5 minutes having our server promise us that more would be forthcoming any time.

The tiramisu was excellent and the service great there-afterwards, but the off-or-on service and two mediocre pastas tainted the evening. I'd definitely return, but will be sure to keep our drinks filled in advance and will skip the tasting trio in the future.

Third time there...visiting Pittsburgh from Cleveland...great restaurant, these guys can cook...very reasonable priced, diverse menu...I’m now gluten/dairy free...and plenty of choices for me (as well as wife and niece who are not gf/df)...I wound up w/ Saturday special veal chop served w/ mashed parsnips and greens...likely best veal chop I’ve ever had, smothered w/ shiitake mushrooms...niece had chocolate (yes, chocolate) ravioli filled w/ butternut squash, wife had salmon...all raved...very nice and well informed server, very accommodating, very attentive...w/ salads, wine and desserts, roughly $50 pp...I think that’s pretty reasonable for what you get...we’ll continue to come back here on future Pittsburgh visits.

The pasta, lamb shank and stuffed cabbage leaves were good, but not great. Lacked salt and flavors were muted. Bread was excellent. Pesto with it was so-so. But service was truly outstanding!! That alone makes it worth a revisit to perhaps try out other menu items
