About Lidia's Pittsburgh

Lidia’s Pittsburgh opened in March of 2001, only two years after Lidia Bastianich and her son Joseph Bastianich opened the popular Lidia’s Kansas City, their first venture outside of Manhattan.

Lidia’s Pittsburgh menu concept is a combination of the New York restaurants, Felidia and Becco.

Lidia's is located downtown in the strip district near the Heinz History Center, Benedum Center, Heinz Hall, Byham Theater, PNC Park, and PPG Paints Arena so it's the perfect place to enjoy a great meal before your event.

The menu features a daily pasta tasting, with homemade pastas that incorporate the season's freshest ingredients in addition to hearty Italian favorites such as the osso bucco, a braised heritage pork shank with barley risotto, the scallopine of chicken breast with roasted lemon, capers, and olives, and grilled salmon filet with seasonal contorni.

Initially I was super excited to try this restaurant as I love the Bastianich restaurants in Las Vegas - unfortunately Lidia’s did not come even close. I had better pasta at Macaroni Grill - I would not waste your time here.

Our cocktails and food were all quite good, except for one component of our appetizer that was not cooked properly. That was a minor issue, and while it was not necessary, they didn't charge us for the appetizer. I only brought it to the attention of my server so that the kitchen could be made aware of it and correct it for others. The service was mostly excellent, except that I ordered the pasta trio, and the server who brought the mushroom ravioli was awful. While the other 2 servers lowered the pans and were careful about placing the pasta helpings on my plate, the ravioli server dumped them on my plate and the buttery sauce splashed all over the place. The other 2 servers ASKED if I wanted more of the dish they were carrying when they came around - he literally just walked by and dumped more on my plate every time he passed by without asking if I wanted more or not, and kept going so I could never talk to him and tell him that I didn't need more! My husband thought it was amusing, but I thought it was very rude
(and wasteful). We were there on a busy Saturday night and the noise level was pretty high. We had to speak up to hear each other across the table.

Went to Lydia's for my husbands birthday. Waitstaff was extremely friendly and helpful. Asked for a table near fireplace and was accommodated. The food was awesome, can't wait to go back.

Very disappointing. Two of the three pasta specials came cold on the first serving. Pasta with calamari was tasteless. Two of the three canolli's were stale.

I haven't been here for a while and we decided to celebrate our family simply being together, as our kids begin to spread their wings. It was a Sunday evening and the place was sparse. Not sure if they had a staffing inssue or what but even with the limited number of tables, the service and attention to the table of 6 was not good.

The decor hasn't changed since the last time I was there. The front door was scraping on the uneven cement so opening and closing the door was a real challenge. A fire hazard in my opinion.

So the food was good to great but the service and overall environment detracted significantly. There are too many newer, cooler, and better valued options but it was chosen as an old stand by for good food and it lived up to that standard.

My SIL said the gnocchi was just like her late mother’s and I have to agree. My MIL was from northern Italy and Lidia’s was a perfect match in every way. My Zuppa Di Pesce was great and my husband (who isn’t easily impressed with food most of the time) said his Pasta Trio was excellent. We will go back.

Lidia’s Pittsburgh has been a family favorite for many years, and it never ceases to disappoint. It’s our standard “birthday dinner” stop with our adult sons. The food is always great and the service is spectacular.

I had a wonderful meal at Lydia's this past Saturday night. This was my third visit to the restaurant. My husband and I took my daughter there with her boyfriend. My daughter, her boyfriend and my husband ordered the Pasta Tasting Trio in which the the servers bring around three pasta dishes as many times as guests would like. My daughter is vegetarian. Lydia's kitchen made her a special pasta so that she could enjoy the trio with everyone else. They were very accommodating. I had the eggplant parmesan which was the best eggplant parmesan I ever had (not overly breaded and fried). The waitress was lovely and the entire evening was enjoyable!

Overall a great place, I made the “mistake” of ordering steak at an Italian place. The Steak was tasteless. My wife had the ravioli and loved it.

First time at Lidia's after trying to get there for years. We have been to many fine dining restaurants in Pittsburgh, but this was not one of them! Service by the floor staff like the hostess and wait staff was fine, but the food was not good. In fact it was bad. I ordered the Friday night seafood special and for $40 we got cold to luke warm seafood with rubber calamari. Upon mentioning it the waiter took it back. It was reheated, including the clam that was already eaten, and returned with a fancier presentation. It was not good, but eaten anyway because my wife was already about finished with her meal. Okay it happens right? I actually understand that thing like that can happen.... but - then comes the check... NOTHING! Nothing was done to make up for the issue. No manager came by and no money was knocked off the meal. I sought out the manager (had to ask for her) and she finally came out and basically indicated that she was doing an inquiry and she obviously had her doubts about our complaints. I finally told her to just ring us out for the full amount because we wanted to go and would not be back. They took the check and when they brought it back we saw that the "seafood special" was comped. Shouldn't have been that difficult. Here's a tip Lidia's - If a customer returns a dish to the kitchen, especially if it's the special and especially because it's cold, you might want to have the manager reach out to them to apologize. We didn't need the meal fully comped. We needed some concern and sympathy and a nice modest gesture of knocking some money off the bill. Since you didn't do any of that then you ended up comping the whole dish. We will not be back!

Started the New Year with dinner at Lydia's Pittsburgh. Corey and Jay made this a very memorable occasion. Corey was friendly, knowledgeable and professional. He made us feel welcomed , answered all our questions and offered valuable suggestions. Jay was terrific. He anticipated all our needs and fulfilled them--we never had to ask for anything! His customer service skills were excellent. The food was outstanding. I had the pasta sampler which was delicious---loved the butternut squash ravioli! The Scampi alla Delidia was an amazing appetizer. Kudos to the talented chefs! I liked the fact that the produce used was locally-sourced and that all the breads were made in house. I highly recommend this restaurant !
Thanks to the staff for all that they do. Barb M.

We went on New Years Day but are repeat diners. Never been disappointed in the food. For larger appetites they have an all you can eat pasta trio. Nice selection on menu.

We went to Lidia's for New Years' Day and we were not disappointed. The menu was truly authentic Italian and we went with the Pasta Trio. We were a little surprised when our meals were a little slow coming out of the kitchen as the reviews had indicated that the service was great! However, our waitress was very apologetic about the wait time and, even though we didn't say anything, comped our after dinner coffee and espressos.
All in all a great first experience at Lidia's. We will plan on going again.

A wonderful refuge on a bitter cold New Year’s Day where the people ambiance and food was all very inviting. My partner’s pasta trio was prepared al dente with a mixture of pastas so each was unique. My linguine con vongelo had tender sweet clams. However there was a bit too much bribe making the otherwise wonderful dish too salty

Service was super slow and it was not extremely busy during our time. Our server Danielle was amazing but she can not control the slow kitchen. The lag between salad and meal was dreadful. The all you can eat pasta is just ok. How much pasta can one eat? The pasta was chewy but reheated the next day made it better. The bread option is ok. Someone got stinky cheese near us and it was awful. The dessert was just ok. For New Years Eve they were out of the key dishes by the time we arrived at 8:45pm.

Overall decent. Service was great.
Gluten free options were very poor and limited. Definitely not enough for such a restaurant for people with gluten allergies. Portions were very also very small. We are big Lidia fans but left disappointed. Pittsburgh has so many quality restaurants that we would not recommend Lidias.

I typically really enjoy Lidia's. We had dinner for New Years Eve. I understand it was crowded, but it took almost 2.5 hours from the time we sat down until we finished dessert. Everything took really long to be served. The server and manager were both very apologetic throughout the entire meal for the slowness of the food coming out.

We went to Lidia's on New Years Eve. The restaurant was packed with people. I would say this would not be a fair review because it was a holiday. The good points: the restaurant was nicely decorated. It has good lighting and an interesting look. The food was very good, and the price was fair. The not so good points: service was slow, but to be fair, we could see our server was overwhelmed with large tables. We had to ask for drink refills. The tables we very close together. I was squeezed into my chair and my chair was bumbed many times. I would probably say on an ordinary day, these not so good points would probably not happen. I do recommend this restaurant!

Server attentive for order and 1st round of beverages. Non-existent after that. Lissa was our server. Steak ordered med-rare. It was near well-done. Everyone’s Broccolini tasted like kerosene. New Year Eve special was fine for 2 of our guests. I intended to take my New York strip home for my dogs. Lissa set our food bag on the floor. We’ve celebrated several events here. New Years was a complete disappointment.

Hated it really. Wait staff, different person, came first to table next to us which was seated after us. First not okay thing. Then question was "tap" water or sparkling water. We got three tap waters. one sparkling. I joked that it was river water. Sparking was 33.8 ounces of Pellegrino. Too much for one person. Food wasn't good. Daughter had seafood soup thing, one had gnoochies, one had osso buco, I had canneloni. Mine was overcooked. Pasta should be al dente. Three had tiramisu hoping to restore the place. No vanilla latte. Gave me alcoholic one but it was too strong. We were celebrating a 28th wedding anniversary. Wouldn't recommend it. Atmosphere was nice.

I keep trying to like Lidia's. I do not think we will be back. Server was great and ravioli was delicious.
Penne was too much to the tooth (bit more than just firm and chewy),tagliatelle was cooked twice and tasted like water.
I can only think Lidia does not oversee her restaurant for quality and consistent product that is delicious and authentic.
Pgh is making delicious beer .You could have some local crafted beer on your menu!

We booked a reservation for Christmas Eve dinner. We were seated about 15 minutes later than our reservation, which was a bit annoying. However, the food and the service were great. We loved the special, which was rigatoni in a sauce that included braised pork shoulder (so tender!), Italian sausage, and a meatball. Fantastic!
