Library Bar - Fairmont Royal York
Can’t beat the prime rib sandwich. Melt in your mouth. Cozy and elegant atmosphere.
Extremely horribly disappointed that we weren’t advised that the entire Royal York Hotel lobby is blocked off for renovations. I was taking my aunt for her first afternoon tea ever - and her birthday which I checked off on the reservation though they did nothing despite them bringing candles and pieces of dessert to other guests- and we went early because she was excited to take pictures in the lovely lobby. Instead we had to kill an hour and a half in the dingy basement concourse. The Library Bar wouldn’t even let us have a cocktail at the bar (they said they had no bartender and brusquely said to go to a pub in the concourse which was dark and pricy; there were no coffee shops open). Tea was fine, but very small table, harsh lighting (photos are horrendous despite my excellent camera) and the experience was no comparison to other afternoon teas in Toronto (ie King Edward, Shangri-La, Ritz Carlton - or other Fairmonts like Ottawa’s Chateau Laurier which has a brighter larger space with a large tea cart and you can purchase most of the tea flavours). Cute quaint room and my aunt was pleased but I know the difference and I know how much happier she would have been if we had been advised that the hotel was under construction. One positive- valet parking staff was good.
Outstanding ambiance, quality and service. We will return in the future and would recommend to anyone who values quality and service.
Lovely old world space. Very good food. A bit on the expensive side. Only negative was the wait for the meal and several attempts required to get the server’s attention to pay.
Cozy ambience, terrific food and excellent service.
Wonderful experience! Great food and beautiful ambiance and decor
Nice experience. Very good service and the sweets, especially the chocolate truffle cake is quite impressive
The food was disappointing - the tea sandwiches were very dry and bland. The one savoury item was cold, as were the scones.
My guest and I spent more than 3 hours eating lunch and visiting. It was a pleasant experience.
As always a pleasure for me and the perfect entity to entertain an out-of-town friend. Marina the hostess always make one feel so welcome and our server Majid was excellent. I will return.
Horribly overpriced without notice
Been going over 25 years
Got sick with $17 Caesar salad $15 extra salmon
Never going vacky
Great location for a quiet business breakfast. Great service and top drawer food.
The waitress was very nice and accommodating. The service reflects the Fairmont brand impeccably. I would highly recommend for informal business gatherings and one-on-one talks including coffee chats.
Excellent location for a business meeting and very close to union station.
Loved the experience. Food and mamosa were great. Would definitely return.
Food was very tasty and the service was impeccable. My server was extra kind to accommodate the mixing of my bulletproof coffee!
I had a club house and side salad.
The sandwich was so dry it was not edible. I took two bites looking for the mayonnaise or sauce. Nothing.
The salad was colourful. No dressing.
I won’t go back after being a casual client for 30 years.
I met an old friend for lunch and a good chat. The atmosphere is homey and the service welcoming. The server respected our wish for a long relaxed lunch. The wine choices were good and the serving sizes generous. I had the signature chowder and it was rich and filling. Highly recommended.
Wait staff is excellent. We were here for a business function and would use this bar again.
We went here for my wife’s 50th birthday lunch. The service was great and the food was too. We were very impressed with the birthday dessert that was made especially for my wife to celebrate her 50th.
We have been here several times before and will continue to come back, thanks for a great lunch on our special day!
Was there for afternoon tea and found it a little bit noisy because of the number of large parties.
My go to. Centrally located. A bit pricey. Great service.
Quiet and nice. Good food attentive. Good location
As always this one of the best afternoon teas in Toronto. They just know how to create a lovely experience and the quality of the foods and teas is remarkable. The attention to detail and customer service is absolutely amazing. The experienced staff explain every item carefully and patiently answer all questions and give wonderful recommendations about the various teas. Highly recommend afternoon tea at this place!
Expensive but food is good and service is very good
I thought $23 for the Canadian Breakfast was way overpriced I ordered my eggs scrambled but they were 'drippy' not even scrambled enought to call them runny. Sure the presentation and service were nice and the room has a wonderful cozy atmosphere (save the drafty window we were seated at) but I felt value was lacking and i was sorely disappointed. I really think the meal was worth about half of what i paid and I would probablby not return.
Went for afternoon tea and have a lovely time. The decor was lovely and the snacks delectable.
Good food and service, but the pricing is too high.
The food was fine, but the prices are too high. The staff are friendly and do their job well. The temperature for the morning breakfast seating was freezing. I had my winter coat and my legs were still chilly. I let my 7 year old sit on my lap to stay warm.
We only seem to attend your wonderful restaurant on very special occasions which is because it is so truly special!! Why would go anywhere else??
My boyfriend and I had a wonderful time here during Christmas Day. We ordered the charcuterie board and some wine. It was good but would have been better if they provided more crostini and cheese. I really love the salami, prosciutto and apricot jam! We wanted to try the High Tea at first but it wasn’t available during that day. We’ll definitely visit again for that!
We were initially at a window seat and it was chilly - we were moved to left of bar and it was cozy. Light overhead was very bright and (eventually) this was turned down. However it appeared to operate all lights in restaurant so other patrons had to use Iphone flash lites! Some rewiring required!!
Overall very enjoyable lunch - we will be back!
Christmas brunch and they were not ready to cook probably a quarter of the menu. Service was fine, the individual was pleasant and apologetic, but the room was cold and drafty and at the end of the day the food was over-priced for what you get.
Food was horrible and over priced. Waiter was unprofessional and made a scene when we told him about our disappointment. Went on Christmas Eve - expected much more from this restaurant and the hotel...
Christmas Tea with son and daughter-in-law. Lovely time. Staff worked extremely well together covering all requests quickly and with a smile.
Always a great meal and service at The Library Bar!
The Cobb salad was the worst I’ve ever had.
