The Libertador is an Argentinean steakhouse that is located in the Upper East Side of Manhattan. It has a traditional design with a touch of industrial flair. You can choose to eat outside during the warmer months, or inside in front of the grill as you watch master chefs prepare your meal. These physical aspects, in combination with the quaint size of the building, have helped to create a warm and inviting atmosphere that guests of the Libertador have been enjoying since it's establishment in 2006.
The Libertador serves a menu that is inspired by the traditional Argentinean flavors, and the South American gaucho society and culture. Dishes are created using only the finest cuts of organic meat and fresh produce. Popular dishes include mozzarella and avocado salad, homemade Argentinean canelloni chicken or shrimp, picada criolla and panqueques de dulce de leche. It also features an extensive international wine list.
Solid scene with fine meat selections that are fairly priced.
Food is great and very authentic. NY Steak was amazingly prepared and just as we asked , medium rare. Mixed South American drinks, like caipriniha and pisco sour, were disappointing and not authentic. The dulce de leche gelato was to die for. Empanadas are amazing.
When you're tired of vegetarian fare, come and sink your teeth into a delectable sweetbread or ribeye on a bone. Their chimichurri sauce I ask for by the bowlful. I also adore their mojitos with a stalk of sugarcane and limes.
Very pleasant evening. Lovely staff, and great food!
Good food. Adequate service.
Good authentic Argentinian Parilla. The quality of the meat could have been better, and the server more attentive.
We were a group of 8 plus a baby carriage and the restaurant accommodated us perfectly. For appetizers we had several different empanadas and the calamari, for dinner we had skirt steak, T-bone steak, sirloin steak and spare ribs and all was delicious! Dessert we all had the dulce de leche crepé which was also fantastic.
We had a great meal. Above all, we were happy that we went on Mother's Day and they had the regular menu, not an overpriced prix fixe. The "famous" provencal fries merit their fame. The wines were great and reasonably priced, and everyone loved the steaks. A bit pricey but overall we really enjoyed our meal and would definitely go back.
Went for a dinner early on a Sunday evening. Service was chaotic and slow. Noise level excruciating. All that having been said, the food was very good and the server was friendly. There are too many other steak houses to choose from in NYC; they need to up their game.
Second time here, it was very underwhelming. Must have been an off day, first time there was good.
Eggs were off color, and seemed like they were not cooked with oil/butter.
Took a while to get drinks, we had to ask twice. Also one of the cups has a lipstick stain on them.
We had the mixed grill for two and it was delicious! We also had the empanadas which were freshly made (to order). We brought a toddler and he was well received. Would go back!
The food was very over salted, when we notified the waitress she said she would flag to the chef but that was the last we heard of it. Admittedly this was our only bad experience here, but everyone's food was borderline inedible from the salt content.
Was rushed through dinner. That’s all i have to say. Ruined my experience
Dollar for dollar, I challenge you to find a better wine list in the area. There are some real gems by the glass and some great values by the bottle. It does get crowded during prime hours, so I recommend going on the earlier side for a better overall experience. Your heart, your tummy, and your wallet will thank you!
Perfect place if you like meat based foods! Good quality wine selection!
Great food and great environment. The service was excellent.
This is my favorite restaurant in New York. The food is
Delicious food! Great ambiance.
It was really loud
The worst restaurant experience in our life. Service was not just amazingly bad, it was -- negative.
We arrived at 7.30 pm and I did not get our food until 9.20pm! I do not know if we were chosen to receive the worst service of 2019 or what, but tables that sat at the same time as we did, ate, paid and already left while we were still waiting for our order.
Our waiter, after getting our wine 10mins later, never came back to take food order.
After waiting for a long time, I caught random waiter on floor to order food. We ordered salad and steak for two.
We were stranded hungry at a table for hours, not knowing if we were getting food at all. Our waiter did not check on us once. Finally, we called a hostess. She said will check on our food. She never came back. We caught our waiter. He brought us one more glass of wine, said he will check on our food, needless to say, he never came back. After almost 2 hours of waiting, when we were ready to get up and leave, they brought our steak. And even then, they did not get it right. They brought us side salads instead fries that we ordered. No steak knife, no spare plates.
While we were sitting there and cutting chewy steak with butter knives, the manager came over and offered us wine. We refused and told him how horrific their service is. He offered us dessert and began telling us how good it is. He said he does not want to loose us as customers. Well, he never gained us as customers, either he had any ideas how to handle unhappy ones. He said he will "fix" it and then he had nerve to bring a full bill. I think, he took off like 1 glass of wine out 3 glasses lol. We paid for steak and left.
I usually do not write bad reviews, but this one is well deserved. Even we tried to handle the situation with humor, this kind of "dinner" would make to come home and scream in pillow. Frustration is not worth mediocre food they service. Clearly, Libertador stuff is clueless about restaurant customer service and hospitality.
The food was very good and it was served very fast. The service was also good. I will come back again soon.
Food was great! The parrilla for two was delicious. Place was loud as there were was a big table close to us.
We ordered Mussels for appetizer, and they were great! The tomato sauce they came in was the perfect accompaniment. And we got the steak special of the day, a 15oz sirloin, and it was cooked to perfection and served with an awesome chumchurri sauce.
Have been going to this restaurant for some time and unfortunately have seen service and quality of the food decrease over time
French fries were not cripsy. Meat was ok. We ordered salad, but the waiter should had warned us that our meat order already included salad.
Food was good but service at libertador is like a card game. You never know what you’re going to get. This is not our first time there and reason why we don’t go there often. Our waitress was nice but the place is very loud and I think we had a language barrier. She couldn’t hear or didn’t understand—my husband’s order got mixed up. He ordered a salad and a steak. He got a steak on top of a salad instead— which is not the same. The size of the steak is half when you get it on top of a salad. I don’t know how she got confused, since she asked do you want mashed potatoes or French fries with the steak. Potatoes only come when you order a steak entree-not the salad. Plus we ordered salads without onions and we had onions in our salad. Steak was cold on top of the salad. We brought it to her attention and she bought us dessert.
Every detail was amazing! Always a favorite spot for a nice dinner in the area.
Consistently good. Nice blend of interesting Argentine dishes with regular steaks as well.
Been here before, good neighborhood steak place. Nice selection of cuts, reasonable prices, and good wine list. Nothing too flashy but a tasty meal in a somewhat noisy environment. Definitely one of our go to places for a night out.
Excellent as always
Great service and humble ownership. The food was delicious especially octopus which was cooked to perfection!,
My boyfriend and I went here on NYE. We were looking forward to their amazing steaks and the service was so poor it really ruined the experience. The problems started when we first arrived and waited more than 10 mins for a table even though we had a reservation and a third of the restaurant had open tables. The women who eventually acknowledged us seemed to be the hostess, manager and server. We were sat and at least 15 mins later she came back to take our drink order. That was the last time she ever came back to our table. We never got water or bread. We wanted to order food, but she was having a lengthy phone conversation in the back of the restaurant and then sat herself down at the bar after making herself a drink. I couldn't believe it. We eventually flagged down another waiter who was able to take our order. I seriously considered leaving, but since it was NYE I knew we wouldn't be able to eat anywhere else. We won't be going back, which is a shame because the food is excellent. I'd have a hard time recommending this restaurant to anyone because the staff's lack of caring will really ruin your night.
Wine and steak with old friends I haven’t seen in a long time, and as a pregame for a New Years party that we were all headed to. Food was excellent, waiter upsold us on the wine but he gave us some shots to celebrate, so it was worth it (we even got a second bottle). I don’t usually write reviews but I had such an excellent dining experience that I feel like the team at Libertador deserve it. Thank you for a great New Years dinner!
Food is delicious, especially for meat eaters. Steaks are perfectly done and chimichurri sauce is delicious. Empanadas are just like mom made! Service is very pleasant, we had the same waiter the last two times we were there and he’s incredibly nice and attentive. The space is cramped, like most NYC restaurants and it can get noisy—but still a great restaurant. Would recommend to friends and family.
El servicio fue buenísimo el lugar está también muy agradable, la comida es muy buena, pero la relación calidad precio no es tan buena, está caro
Warm hearted and helpful service. Delicious SA drinks. The steaks, the specialty grills, are cooked to perfection. Although I like milder chorizos, the one in the mixed grill could be a bit spicier! All the beef is flavorful, as is the chicken.
Disappointing. Had not been there in years. Too expensive for what it is.
I won’t name my favorite Argentinian steak house but this might be my new favorite.
Worst experience ever ! Had a 6:30 reservation. Was told by the manager she couldn’t find it. I had to show her on her screen where my name was. She asked me to wait and then seated people behind me that did not have reservation.
At 7pm I saw other people coming after me and being seated. When we asked about it she said our table coming soon.
Five mins later a table that became available, she sat new people that just walked in. How do you seat your later reservation when your 6:30 reservation, who’s been standing for over 40 mins, is still waiting. I left and ate across the street at the Indian restaurant, where the service and food was outstanding!
I will most definitely tell all my friends and family not to go to Libertador, there’s better service and food right around .
