Lia’s is my absolutely favorite restaurant. Provide a quiet room and it would be PERFECT
Very basic and nothing special. I had the steak and it was tough and cane with a weird sauce. Forget the meatball appetizer, we didn’t even finish them. Scallops were ok , nothing special. Bottom line. Don’t waist your money here.
We are frequent diners at Lias. Usually one of us orders the penne with what used to be shrimp and sausage, but then the shrimp was taken away. We adjusted and went with the penne with (sliced) sausage. Now the sausage has been crumbled and a lot of cream has been added to the preparation. It makes the dish overly rich and not where nearly as appealing as with the sausage sliced. Please loose the cream and bring back the sliced sausage with the wonderful tomato sauce (and maybe the shrimp!).
As always, I think Lia's has it all. I invariably anticipate great, yet each visit still am surprised how good everything is.
Perennial favorite Lia’s has slipped unaccountably in recent months/year. Calamari appetizer, salmon entree, and CG burger...all wonderful in the past...were last evening evidently precooked well before our orders went in. All arrived super (oddly over) fast and were thus barely warm, dried out, and lacking freshly cooked deliciousness one expects. Such a shame for once go-to neighborhood prize.
Food was delicious. Service was erratic—silverware taken between courses was not replenished. Had to ask for silverware for each course. Errors in bill on several of the checks. Almost seemed it was everyone’s first day on the job.
Our family birthday party couldn't have been better. They greeted us at the door and had a special welcome sign noting the special day. The restaurant week $22 brunch was an exceptional value with a wide variety of very tasty options. They served us promptly with friendly and attentive wait staff. The beverages and the food were wonderful. We will come back for our next party!
My first time at Lia's. The food was great and great value, as I expected from a Chef Geoff restaurant. It was a delightful evening, we sat outside, and the fried calamari was crisp and tender, always a one good gauge of a restaurant. Also had scrumptious wild mushroom ravioli and grilled salmon. All was tops.
Excellent service. Shout out to Desiree and Patrick😊😊
We went for restaurant week. This was a fabulous value!! Loved, loved the strawberry watermelon soup. Pizza fine. Ricotta pound cake excellent. Will go back.
My dad and I went for dinner during the DC/Bethesda restaurant week, and the two of us did the 3 course/$35 restaurant week special. The food was great, and the value could not be beat. The wait staff was incredibly friendly, and once our waiter found out I would be attending law school at the school nearby this fall, he introduced me to another waiter who is starting her second year there. That attention to detail/care of the customer was unexpected yet very appreciated.
I always enjoy having dinner at Lia’s. The food is delicious and the service was great. Our server anticipated our needs. I very much appreciated that the entire menu was available for restaurant week unlike other places that only offer a limited selection. Lia’s is one of my favorite restaurants.
This was a Restaurant week treat. A great discovery. Chef Geoff did not disappoint. Was the best lunch I have eaten in quite some time. Menu was creative and varied, and my date who is a vegetarian loved his choices as well. We will be back.
An absolutely perfect meal in every respect!
The wait staff catered to my gluten sensitive friend and all of the dishes we ordered were delicious. Lia’s is a true find!
Restaurant week was full menu.
Excellent trout with shrimp. My only complaint is the inside noise level.
The food is generally good and was this time. However I wish they would refrain from using “heat” for example hot chili or hot pepper in many of there dishes. There are lots of different spices.
The food was great however the restaurant only had a few occupied tables and the service was VERY SLOW. Not sure if the server was new but had trouble keeping our drinks filled and orders straight.
We had avoided going to Lia’s for years after we had a really unpleasant experience, but this evening changed our minds completely! We had excellent, attentive service, we were not rushed, and we had delicious food and drink. Our beverage server even offered to chill my red wine for me! We will definitely be going back.
Great restaurant with delicious food that is moderately priced, and excellent service. Can't wait to go back.
We enjoyed our meal at Lia's. The cocktail was unique and delicious and all the food was prepared well. The waiter and the chef were very helpful with making sure my meal was gluten free. Service was excellent. We had a great time!
Very pleased with all services and food and atmosphere.
we wanted to try a new restaurant at the Wharf and they were great. Very nice staff who knew their profession and the food was excellent.
Certainly would return
Great service by waiter and food was amazing
We each had a salad and added salmon. The salmon was cooked perfectly and delicious. The bread was very good. Our server was just the right amount of attentive and not pushy.
Most enjoyable meal yet at Lia's -- great new seasonal items on the menu and incredibly personable and helpful service. Lovely extra touch when at the end of the meal our server had little boxes with chocolates for the two friends I was treating to lunch for their birthdays! I think I need to come more often!
Special occasion. Dear friends were in from Singapore- a businessman and a diplomat. Of all the restaurants in our area, we elected Lia’s. Decision simple-ingredients always the freshest and locally sourced where possible and then prepared to heighten each individual flavor. Our guests are total foodies and they weren’t disappointed. At the time we reserved both brunch and luncheon were offered. Tuscan Eggs Benedict with truffle hollandaise and crispy Yukon potatoes. Cannoli Stuffed French Toast with strawberries that were actually flavorfully at their peak. Hangover Burgers with Angus beef topped with a fried egg, bacon, pepper jack and a kick of chipotle aioli. And on and on... “You must try this” was the refrain as everyone traded plates so the others could try their selection. An added benefit of Lia’s---staff training---made it even more enjoyable given it was a reunion of old friends who had much on which to get caught up. The waiter Fiona had a simply delightful personality and sensed exactly when to break into the conversation and laughter to serve, check on us or re-pour. Thank you Chef for yet again making our day.
I love Lia's. Every time I go to the DC area, I eat here.
Attentive staff, always reliably excellent food and service
Hali it was perfectly cooked. Peach sangria was refreshing. Service was great. A bit tight quarters, though.
The food at LIA’S was good, as was the service. We had a gazpacho, the smoked mozzarella and pea agnolotti, and a mushroom pizza. However, I do think it was a bit overpriced for what it was. We sat outside and the noise level was terrible; we could barely hear each other from across a two-person table. Overall, it was fine, but I don’t know that I would hurry to go back.
Great girls night out spot. My friend has lived here for 17 years & had never been to Lia's. She's now a huge fan! It's a gem!
great first time; Open Table description delivered as advertised; went for lunch on 1/2 prince Wine Wednesdays & has a good bottle of rose’. Great service. will recommend & return for dinner, bar, or outside. thanks Lia’s!
Always impressed with the attentive and friendly service. Normally enjoy the food at all of Chef Geoff’s excellent restaurants, but really think the kitchen let us down. Friends who work the Friendship Heights area warned me that the food has not been up to par on recent visits and did warn me. I wish I would have listened.
We were delighted with our most recent experience at Lia's. We were celebrating the wedding anniversary of some friends, and the restaurant made a special effort to make them feel special, giving a special dessert drink, and checking in with us frequently. As always, the food was good and the service was excellent. And the outdoor dining option was a real plus.
I have considered Chef Geoff restaurants my favorite for quite a while. But Saturday night's dinner exceeded even my expectation. My salmon may have been the BEST I have ever eaten. I'll quote my dining companion's comment: "Why should we ever eat anywhere else?"
Friendship Heights Favorite
Lia's is one of my favorite restaurants in this neighborhood. The food is great, the service friendly and the prices--especially if you get there early enough for the sunset special--are wonderfully affordable. In fact, it's a great choice, regardless of whether you're hosting a group or having a dinner for two. My only lament is the noise level, which can be very loud indoors and during standard mealtimes.
Second time at Lia’s. Excellent. Delicious gazpacho. Very tasty tuna carpaccio. Look forward to my third time, fourth time etc.
All in all, a very nice experience. I was a little disappointed in my entree which was the penne with sausage/tomato cream sauce. Too heavy and flavor seemed off. Overall pricing seemed a bit inflated. The service was very good. I was meeting a friend and was told I was the first there for the reservation and asked to be seated, only to learn about 15min. later, the other person had been seated before me at a different table. Table service was good altho a little erratic. But never felt pushed by server who was very nice and professional. Would go back again but try something else.
We ate outside to enjoy a beautiful evening while visiting friends in DC. LIA’S was a very welcome surprise - one of the best meals I have enjoyed in several years. The food was absolutely delicious, the service was superb, and the price was surprisingly low.
