LIA'S Ratings and Reviews
I can always count on Lia's for the food and environment. On this occasion, the staff proved exemplary when my guest felt ill. The first person I could connect with from my table was a busboy, who looked me in the eye and asked if he could help. I asked for a glass of orange juice because my friend felt faint. The busboy immediately connected with others, and a manager both brought over the OJ quickly and asked what else he could do, next providing some gluten free bread (pronounced delicious) as an added snack when asked for something suitable. My friend rallied, but throughout the meal different staff members checked in and were clearly ready to help--discreetly--as needed. We really appreciated their professionalism.
Usually Lia's scores great with us, but this time only two out of three main dishes were great: the halibut was great and the filet mignon over a chive risotto with hollandaise was just fabulous.
The tortellini with crab and lobster in spicy tomato sauce however was a disappointment. The fresh made pasta was overcooked and a bit too thick. There was celery and perhaps some madeira in the sauce, but no spiciness at al, resulting in a band sauce that did not even taste like a tomato sauce. We have dined here before and this is the first time a pasta special was not good. They are often sensational (I still fondly remember the ravioli with braised short rib filling).
We have been to Lia's many times. The menu is eclectic but has something for everyone. It has everything from excellent burgers to steak. On this occasion my halibut was dry and slightly over cooked while my husbands cod was very good to excellent. The donuts for desert are to die for and the cannoli are excellent. It was around $55/person which I thought was a little pricey as we did not have wine or drinks and one person had a hamburger.
While it was a quiet Tuesday night for a friend’s gathering, we were seated at a corner booth table next to the doors leading to a large party room (?). Every time the doors opened, there was a draft and sometimes the doors were left wide open multiple times. By the time we realized the issue we had started on our meal.
The service was lukewarm at best - our server motioned to me to bring her my empty water glass so she could fill it since she couldn’t move 1 step closer. I was astounded. The service improved slightly towards dessert/coffee.
Food good but 2 unfortunate incidents. First our party of 5 was seated by the door and every time the door opened a cold breeze came wafting through. We asked to be moved and gratefully were. Then one of our party was a 27 year old from Canada. She ordered a glass of wine. The waiter asked for ID. She produced her Canadian drivers license. Not accepted. The waiter asked for her passport, which was at our house. She had a picture of it on her phone. Also not accepted. Said it was "the law" which I since learned is not true. Sad. Sort of colored the evening negatively.
This was my second visit to Lia's, the food at the 1st visit was better. This time I got the veggie bean burger. I'm not a vegetarian and should have gone for the beef burger. Bean burger was uninteresting. We both really liked the butternut squash apple soup.
We were visiting the DC area from out of town to visit with our son, future daughter in law and her family. I asked for recommendations for that Saturday night dinner, and chose Lia's due to the very wide menu. There is something for everyone, even for our party, which included gluten-free and vegetarian diners. Our waiter was quick to first appear, quick with answers to all our menu/ingredient questions and completely responsive throughout the meal. The food was all delicious - from appetizers to desserts! I would highly recommend Lia's to anyone!
My family really enjoyed the special Thanksgiving dinner we had at Lia’s. The turkey lovers enjoyed their meal but so did our fish lovers and vegetarians. The portions were a Normas including the appetizers. It was a tremendous value for $42 a person and the service was prompt and attentive. This was truly an exceptional Thanksgiving celebration. I highly recommend it for a special occasion dining.
Nice. It was Thanksgiving day and I am sure they were fully booked, but we did not feel rushed. The food was not very adventurous but it was prepared with care. The portions were generous and we took some home. Value wise, I would say it was on the expensive side for the food we got. However, the service was excellent and that has a price, too. It was fixed price on Thanksgiving (with plenty of choices in each of the three courses), I would like to give it a try on a regular day.
Brunch was delicious! We tried salmon benedicts, hangover burger, and pizzas. They also have bottomless mimosas for $15 and you can change flavors from original orange kind to peach, pear, and pineapple. Our server Saoirse was very efficient. Highly recommend!
I was so glad my local friend suggested we meet at Lia’s. The food was wonderful, the atmosphere was welcoming, and the staff was attentive without being intrusive. I loved the duck with pear ravioli special! And the house made ice-cream! But most of all I loved it that everyone at Lia’s was concerned about my comfort and well-being (I have a food allergy) and worked hard to see that my friend and I had an unhurried and relaxed dinner. (I was glad I could pay through OpenTable and ApplePay to avoid fuss at the end of the meal.)
