LIA'S Ratings and Reviews
Brunch was delicious! We tried salmon benedicts, hangover burger, and pizzas. They also have bottomless mimosas for $15 and you can change flavors from original orange kind to peach, pear, and pineapple. Our server Saoirse was very efficient. Highly recommend!
I was so glad my local friend suggested we meet at Lia’s. The food was wonderful, the atmosphere was welcoming, and the staff was attentive without being intrusive. I loved the duck with pear ravioli special! And the house made ice-cream! But most of all I loved it that everyone at Lia’s was concerned about my comfort and well-being (I have a food allergy) and worked hard to see that my friend and I had an unhurried and relaxed dinner. (I was glad I could pay through OpenTable and ApplePay to avoid fuss at the end of the meal.)
We loved everything about our experience at Lia’s except... how slow the service was! Our group arrived at 6:00 pm and we did not leave until 9:15 pm!! Once we asked that things move a little quicker it did but it just wasn’t what any of us where expecting! I’m guessing if you let the staff know before you start that you’d like to be done at a certain time they could make happen. We just didn’t know to ask!!
Our server was obviously new. Our guests arrived and it took 2-3 reminders for drinks. My dinner, fish with bacon potatoes, was a nicely cooked piece of fish on a plate-covering smear of potatoes. Both were the same color. The bacon potatoes overwhelmed the flavor of the fish and the presentation was unattractive. The calamari was good, salads - fair, desserts - unexciting. I was sadly disappointed as I've eaten at Lia's quite a few times and nothing compared to this sad experience.
A very nice meal overall. The server did a nice job dealing with my embarrassingly difficult to servers, father-in-law. She was very pleasant and timely.
The food was very good and the half price bottles of wine were worth the trip. The only sort of negative I could find was the small amount of entrees that didn't contain meat. This is pretty common though and it wouldn't preclude me from returning.
Our ever changing guest count drove me crazy but it was easy to modify with the Opentable app. We ended up being a party of 7. We had requested an outdoor table and when we arrived there was not a single table seated outside. Upon walking in and speaking with the host they indicated it would be a minute because they had a table set inside. Granted it was an overcast day but with the fall weather arriving we didn't want to miss an opportunity to stay outside.
Our server was very pleasant, took all our orders at 1 time. We did initially ask for separate checks and she obliged. We chatted and were enjoying ourselves. Our drinks arrived and we continued having a good time. Our food was delivered and it did not take much time. We enjoyed our meals but our server must have been busy with indoor tables because eventually she seemed to disappear. We were all sitting with our dirty plates in front of us for the duration of our stay. I eventually went in and asked the host for our check which was brought out with 1 bill for all, after we asked he found the server who rectified the situation and brought out the separate checks. I like Lia's and will continue to patronize it.
The food was good. Nothing memorable. Portions were just right, in my opinion. Price was a little high ($84 for two before tip with only one alcholic beverage between us) for a meal that was delicious, but nothing more. We enjoyed the outdoor seating due to the weather, but you are overshadowed by an office building, a major road (although not a busy one) nearby, and no passerbys.
The only problem we had was that it was too noisy. When a waiter closed the door to the back room to reduce the noise level, our waitress opened the door again since I think it made it inconvenient for her to bring our food to our table. It's a set-up they should re-think. Otherwise, it is a comfortable place, food very good, service good, but not formal. Okay for a casual night out, or lunch with friends.
As the prices have gone up, the quality has gone down, not that it was ever better than average.
I ordered the cadillac caesar with salmon; the salad lacked the corn, beans and other additions it was supposed to have and the salmon was dry. The crispy brussels sprouts were grossly over-roasted and over-oiled. Only the outdoor seating saved the experience.
We had friends in town whose only request was a quiet restaurant with good food where we could have a relaxed conversation. They set us in the back room, which was perfect -- quiet and cozy. The added bonus was that the food was excellent with lots of choices for the vegetarians among us. A friend and I split two dishes, and they were nice enough to do the dividing and plating in the kitchen. There are not many options in the Friendship Heights area with good food and atmosphere -- Lia's will become my go-to place!
Good trout, salmon main courses, tasty bread at table, excellent ceasar salad. 3 course early dinner special is flavorful and worth it. Service attentive. Dining ambiance and decor is very nice inside, as well as wonderful fountain-side seating outside. Recommend if in area, would not make a special trip there. Thanks.
The weekly special of crispy crab dumplings were very good, really filled with crab and tasty. The special of shrimp and chorizo fettuccini was good but the menu stated it was in a wine and saffron sauce, it was indeed in a heavy cream sauce. I think that took a bit away from it since the rest of the dish was great but too heavy due to the sauce. My husbands penne, which was listed as being in a "creamy" tomato sauce, was delicious and heavy on the tomato not the cream. We always enjoy our meals at Lias, I just need to be more diligent about asking about all the ingredients in a preparation.
