LIA's has ample outdoor space for socially distanced dining. The food is very good, and our server was very accommodating.
In these days of Covid caution, it is a delight to dine outdoors at Lia’s, where there is careful attention to safety and a good menu full of comfort food and culinary treats. We had the always excellent brussel sprouts, salmon with ratatouille, and excellent ice cream, accompanied by large glasses of well selected wines. We also recommend the mushroom ravioli and mushroom pizza. We recommend making a reservation if you want to eat outdoors before the weather prevents that.
Excellent meal at Lia's this last week, with outdoor seating. The watermelon gazpacho is absolutely fabulous! Second time I've had it, and just as delicious as the first time--my friend ordered it too and totally agreed. I had shrimp scampi, lots of tasty shrimp, really delicious. Because of its expansive outdoor seating, Lia's is an especially good place to go now--but the predominant reason has to be the food. Hope they keep that gazpacho on the menu a while longer!
Our favorite local go to. Always good food and good service. Outdoor seating is the best around.
We went for our anniversary. The service was slow - took the waiter a while to come over after he gave us menus. Then, they got my order wrong - gave me salmon instead of tuna. So, my husband had his food and they had to remake mine. He was half way done eating when mine came back. When I told the waiter, he just say "oh" (another server had brought it out). He didn't offer to check on it, bring me bread to eat or something while I was sitting there. Usually a restaurant will take the item off the bill or at least they could have given us my husband's glass of wine. But they charged us the full price. They did bring us a scoop of ice cream with a candle for our anniversary which was sweet. But the fact they didn't do more to make the incorrect order right was disappointing.
Patio seating is nicely spaced out. We enjoyed the spicy Caesar salad and the crab cakes.
As expected due to Covid 19, the ouside patio was at best 20% filled. the service was excellent. The zucchini? balls were excellent. My GF Burger was ordered medium and cam out well. Thus, the low rating.
Pleasant outdoor seating well protected from rain. Excellent service. Appetizers were excellent, but main course disappointed a bit. Pasta is best bet.
Jim, thank you for the feedback! Our pasta is always reliably delicious. Our menu is changing soon, in about two weeks, and hopefully we will have some better executed dishes available. I hope you visit us again soon!
Delightful reliable place.
Thank you so much, Maureen! We really enjoy having you as our guest. Thank you for your continued loyalty and support. We always look forward to your visit!
First time for our friends, but we are regular customers. Always consistent and delicious.
On our second visit to Lia's, we were again impressed by the pleasant, well-spaced outdoor patio setting; the reasonable prices; the good choices on the menu; and the size and quality of the portions, well-served by our waiter Carlos. Well worth return visits!
Thank you so much for your lovely feedback! I will make sure to pass along the compliment.
Lia's is always wonderful, but in these days of pandemic, with restaurants forced to serve outdoors and make do with limited ingredients, they've really scored!
This weekend a neighbor and I went there for Sunday brunch, and were puzzled to see an item called "poached eggs with crab cakes" instead of our usual Eggs Benedict or Norwegian. But the Hollandaise was perfect and the substitution of crab cakes for ham or smoked salmon was brilliant. Combined with a custom-made Bloody Mary--I prefer it without the mix but with the fixings--the egg dish was a quintessential Sunday treat. (My friend had the cold gazpacho, and loved it.) So thank you again Lia's!
We always love having you visit! Thank you for your very thoughtful and lovely comments. We really appreciate your support and always look forward to seeing you.
The service was outstanding. The outside table spacing was perfect. The dinner aside from being delicious was a value for the price.
I love Lia's--for its ambiance; its wait staff; its management; its chef; its affordability; its excellent food preparation; and yes, most of all, its convenience!
Nowadays, when I and most people I know are reluctant to get on the Metro, having a neighborhood restaurant that is always open and that makes me feel really welcome, is of critical importance.
Thank you Lia's!
Great outdoor terrace with lots of space between tables. The food was A+ as usual. The risotto balls (arancini) are a must and ample to share between 2. Service was excellent, but a little slow at times. All in all a great way to scratch the itch of eating out while feeling safe during these strange days.
Outdoor dining venue in the Friendship Heights neighborhood with a varied menu, large portions and reasonable service. Salmon with mashed potatoes very tasty.
LIA's is the PERFECT place for outdoor dining. The outdoor area at is very nice, quiet and well spaced out for diners. There's even a part that is fully covered outside in case it rains. The service was excellent and the shrimp scampi was absolutely delicious, the pizza was very good. The chicken parm was just ok.
Consistently good food and service. Excellent menu with choices for everyone. We return once a week for patio dining.
Very good food. Outdoor seating is covered and spacious. Service courteous and outstanding. Parking easy.
We always have a good/great meal at Lia's. The desserts were just ok.
We have gone to Lia's for years but I fear it has slipped. They overbooked the restaurant on a Saturday night during restaurant week and the service was terrible. For example, they took about 15 minutes to even come up to greet the table and this was the host. He ordered our drinks and that took another 10 minutes. Since it was restaurant week we had dessert and when they served it we said we had not been given spoons (it was ice cream). The server said he would get some but ran off and started bringing things to other tables while or dessert melted and our waitress was nowhere to be found. It made for an unpleasant night for sure.
Restaurant week menu was very good. I paid extra $5 for the double Crab cakes. They were very good and very filling I was surprised.
It was very nice. Hostess was aware of rain and relocated us. Serving staff was great too.
I always go to LIA’S, it has been my favorite spot since 2016 and I already posted some good reviews. But today my review will be about the bad service I had, to start that they put us on the rain when there were so many tables in the patio under the roof available. They said it was for reservation but I did have one too, not sure how they prioritize. The rain was heavy and there were still tables available and they didn’t let us move. The waitress was kind but took her forever to help us out and the sangria which is usually good, was crap! The hostess knows me and he didn’t acknowledge my reservation or my request, seems like he was having a bad day and now made me and my friend uncomfortable. I was wearing a dress and my bag got soaked in the rain because they were not allowing us to move while other customers there who didn’t ask, we’re moving to other tables with no problem. I guess the issue was that we tried to be polite and got a NO. The intention was to have dinner and we had drinks and left. Don’t know if I will ever go back there, hurt feelings!
One in my party didn’t like the crab cake sandwich. Said it was too salty. I requested no croutons in my salad but they were there.
Great summer gespacho and crab cakes.
After a long time of take outs it was time to go out again. So happy w my choice.
This was my second time dining at the restaurant. The website showed a special that wasn't accurate. It says $$19.99 meals from 4:00pm-6:30pm weekly. When I called I was told that wasn't the special and that the website is wrong. Fix the website then. The sauce on the crab cakes is extremely rich and has artichokes. I think the servers should specify what the sauces consist of. The sauce kept me in the restaurant restroom for about half of my dining experience on Monday evening. Daniel my waitress was absolutely FABULOUS. He apologized for the menu not reflecting the restaurant was out of Cherry Cobbler and he apologized for not explaining the contents of the sauce too. I was first introduced to Lia's on Father's day. I was treated by a friend and my experience was better. The manager was rough around the edges because they were short staffed I did NOT feel comfortable speaking with him about my concerns. I will dine there again but I hope some menu/website issues are resolved.
Good food, good ambience, lovely outdoor patio setting. But please ask your customers to refrain from smoking and playing music on their phones, just as you would do indoors! Thank you.
Had a great experience out on the patio, with tables spaced far apart, and an excellent waitress. We’ll definitely go again.
Outdoor dining area was an excellent setup with tables nicely spread out!! Nice experience for those that don’t want to dine inside....they should get heaters now to prepare for the winter.
Felt very safe— delicious dinner & lovely patio
We ate outside on their patio. Felt very safe dining out with their socially distanced seating outside.
Food was very good with good choices. I had a pasta which was delicious and my husband had crabcakes, also very good. Portions were good sized.
Had the Washington Week special which was outstanding. We ate inside with only a few tables occupied, so it was very quiet. The server was attentive and friendly.
I always enjoy going to to Lia's. The food and service is usually good and prices are reasonable.
We sat outside. The food was delicious but the service was abysmal!
I am so sorry about the slow service. Considering the current circumstances we have been unfortunately very short-staffed, as I am certain you can understand. Many of our employees have been hesitant to return to work given the very dangerous environment we now have to operate in - as we are all at extremely increased risk for getting ill. Hence, our normal standards of operations are difficult to maintain at times.
A pretty good outdoor ambience for pandemic dining! The food is always excellent -- the surprise hit for me this time was the cauliflower appetizer...
First time out in months was excellent
The food was cold. Mashed potatoes were tasteless. The cherry pie had garlic taste.
Chef Geoff restaurants are my favorite because the food preparation. presentation, and value is always excellent. As a matter of fact, I'm planning dinner with another friend OUTSIDE ONLY again tomorrow night at Chef Geoff on New Mexico Avenue. I intend to order the Indian dish my friend had.
