House Made Duck Confit
Escargots Bourguignonne classic style
Food and service were both great. I had the Pork Schnitzel.
Fairly priced, nice ambiance and very tasty French food.
This is a restaurant that we have long patronized and generally speaking the service and food have been very good. Last night, however, we asked three times for bread to go with the onion soup and escargot (bread is integral to enjoyment of this dish) and the bread did not come until both of us were nearly done with our appetizers. The steak special was entirely gristle and inedible. It was sent back. The chicken was slightly better, but was dry and largely tasteless. Don’t know if this was a one-time glitch or a sign of a permanent decline in quality for this well-loved bistro.
Wonderful place to meet up with friends
Love Lexpress and have been coming for years! the place is beautiful, the food is great, the service is excellent, yet the atmosphere is relaxed and laid back and we always feel at home. one of our favorite places in NYC and has been for 25 years! now we take our 16 years old kids there with us, and we all love it.
Our server was wonderful. She dealt with our requests professionally go out of their way to delight the customer.
nice place for a casual dinner. although they got our order wrong, still tasty
Staff is wonderful. Nice menu and alternatives offered with a smile.
great ambiance - perfect place for a date. Great list of beers and drinks.
We have been going to L'Express for 20 years, but when we moved out of the neighborhood, much less now. We visited last night and commented how it is not surprising that the restaurant continues to thrive. Food is very good, always consistent, ambience is great, feels French. And service last night was terrific, couldn't have been better.
L'Express is a great choice, great neighborhood staple.
Wonderful bistro food, outstanding service and charming location
The service was great. Our server was very attentive. The food quality was OK. I remembered better food pre-Covid. It's a great neighbourhood place.
Great place for a work lunch.
Good service, below average food, nice location.
Everything was great! Food came out hot, service was fast, and wonderful ambiance!
Good service. Pleasant ambience. The onion soup is very very good. I like the staek tartare with french fries. The fries could be done a little longer so they are crisper and less wilted. Otherwise excellent nght out
Amazing food and service!
We love L’Express. Sat on the sidewalk this time. Excellent!
The food was great, especially a French onion tart appetizer on the Specials. The service was a bit spotty, which made no sense since it was no especially crowded. But, overall, very good food.
We enjoyed our lunch at L'Express very much. It is my friend's go-to place in the neighborhood and I can see why. The food was great, the service was helpful, present but not intrusive. The outside facility for COVID protocols was gracious, protected and felt safe.
Food was fine, service solid. Park Avenue has become noisy like the old days (i.e. 18 months ago). Overall, quite good indeed.
The food was okay. I was not overwhelmed by the flavor of the food. Good onion soup
Love that this place is still rocking... the food is medicre
Service was over-attented. It's amazing how that's a thing. What bugged us the most was how they kept reaching over us to grab or sit items when they could have went around and aside my friends. My friend turned 49 but they arranged the candles as 94 to top off everything. Lol. The food wasn't flavorful but the quality was good. I really appreciate the manager working with us with a few issues being brought up. He's a super guy 😊. We had a good time overall amongst ourselves but this is less likely a returning location.
I've dined outdoors several times over the last few months and have had very good experiences. This time I requested a corner table (I called the restaurant as well as added a note in my reservation), which we didn't get. There were corner tables available in the outdoors areas. Additionally, we were seated on the side street, not on Park Avenue South and the staff (maybe of other restaurants too) pulled multiple, large garbage dumper/bins along the sidewalk throughout the evening. Also, one of the waiters started taking down the tables around us while we were still eating. And they didn't have the heat fully up on the lamp over our table.
Those issues aside, the staff was attentive and we really enjoyed the food. And we were protected well from the rain even though we were outdoors.
A delightful French BISTRO in the friendly "corner saloon" style,
but all the traditional dishes are done really well- like OUTSTANDING
ESCARGOTS for instance. Both inside and outside service, gracious
Great outdoor dining spot, neighborhood favorite.
Glorified French themed ‘diner’ menu. Generous portions. Good value given it’s prime spot on Park. Attentive service.
Another nice evening here. Good wine, very good food, and very nice service. Looking forward to my next visit.
Been going here for a long time. The food and staff are top notch. Can't go wrong here.
We had a wonderful meal. Great servers, outdoor dining and authentic French food.
This is my favorite neighborhood hangout. I love the staff and the food and the space....
The service was attentive and the ambience, especially as we were in the street, was surprisingly good - quiet and protected. As to the food, three dishes were wonderful and one was quite disappointing.
My wife's salmon tartar was even better than the sashimi we had a few days before. The avocado mixed in with the fish was a masterful touch. My escargot was, and I am not exaggerating, perhaps the finest rendition of that standard French dish that I have ever
tasted. The escargot themselves were tender and tasty and the tiny breadcrumb were crisp and copious. But copious is not a strong enough description of the amount of melted butter which bathed the escargot. It took many slices of bread to sop up this golden elixir. I've eaten this dish in France many, many times. This iteration was the best!
Alas, the short ribs Bourguignon was very disappointing. The sauce was grainy from what must have been a thickening agent, the ribs, stringy and tough, the onions very few.
But three out of four isn't bad. I'll come again and order both the escargot and the salmon.
This place is never outstanding, but rather consistently good. Like your corner bistro! Friendly, attractive, tasty. Just what you want
Amazing food and Amazing service. I am french and the food was delicious and authentic. The service was also beyond.
let's get rid of the plexiglass partitions between tables - they are very limiting and do nothing
This was my second time there in about a month. They have a really good outdoor set up and we sat in the corner, which was extra warm. My friend really enjoyed his burger, especially since he hadn't had one in quite a while. The duck confit was also good although a little overcooked. I think the duck l'orange is the better of the duck dishes.
My only quibble is that they were supposed to do a little something for my friend's birthday (which they'd confirmed on the phone that day from the special instructions I'd put in my reservation) and they didn't do anything.
I'm so glad you're open for dining! I used to come here regularly when I lived in the city in the early 2000's. Things felt almost normal again! As usual the meal was delicious, service and ambiance excellent. I could pretend I was in France for a moment!
