Chic and casual restaurant- great service for 8 of our guests!
My fiance and I both ordered the lamb burger following a show at Gramercy Park Theater. Unfortunately, about halfway through his burger, he encountered a tough piece of something like fat/gristle at least 3 inches long and an inch wide. I can't imagine how something that big made it into the patty without someone noticing. The waiter took his plate back to the kitchen, returned with an apology, and offered to bring him another one. He agreed, and the new burger was fine when it came out. However, the meal was ruined, and no other gesture was offered, such as taking something off the bill, or offering a free glass of wine, coffee, or dessert. That night and all through the next day, my fiance experienced stomach trouble and a general feeling of nausea and being grossed out. I'm afraid this first experience at L'Express was so negative that we cannot recommend and won't be returning.
Food was good. Service was great and very patient with some challenging dinner guests I had with me. No complaints.
Great place for a get together of friends. Lively, energized atmosphere, great food selections, and terrific service. Very pleased A++
We loved the beef bourguignon
The service was great too
The place is a bit loud but has a good vibe
Efficient and tasty.
Very good for lunch or brunch. Used to dine here for dinner but the menu is a lot less "bistro" than it was. Back in the day they served blood sausage a calves liver and Cesar salad. No longer. Pity, some of my favorite foods.
L’Express is one of my favorites! Always consistent and cozy ambiance. I ordered the skirt steak which was tender and delicious. My friend had the sea bass both were dinner specials. We both enjoyed our dish very much. For dessert we shared the molten chocolate dessert. My guilty pleasure at L’Express. I will always be back! Our waiter was slow with service, approaching our table, forgot my friend’s wine order, returning to take our order but I will excuse. It was a busy Thursday after Yom Kippur.
I had always loved l'express, but had not visited in a while; was very disappointed in the food and service.
I would not return.
Disappointed this time for sure.small portion of Frye’s, weird shaped steak
The staff at L'Express are wonderful -- kind, thoughtful, and professional. The food is excellent. This is a great place for brunch with friends or family.
Had lunch a pleasant with friends. We all enjoyed our meal! Although the restaurant was full we never felt rushed by waitstaff to hurry up and leave.
Loved the food and the outstanding service. Also, we were not rushed !
Beautiful birthday dinner at L'Express. The food was lovely and the staff were very attentive.
Tina Niçoise salad is always good. Laid back fun place with a good vibe albeit acoustics on the loud side.
Service is good.
Okay restaurant near union square. overpriced, food not good, but workable in a pinch.
The restaurant is consistent. The food is very good. You don’t feel rushed. Staff is nice. It’s a bit noisy.
We love coming here for late night dinner - the service and food are always lovely!
great value - would come back again for a laid-back brunch with friends.
Great atmosphere and service. My cousin who is super picky even loved it.
Always a great experience.
We've been to L'Express many times and have found the experience quite pleasant. The hamburger is very good as is the roasted half chicken. The tarte tatin is something special and you should save room for it. I thought the cocktail for $15 was way overpriced.
L”Express is always a must go to anytime we are in NYC!
Seated immediately. Ordered the Croque Madame, one the specials: Curry Chicken Salad, and drinks. The Croque Madame had a beautiful runny egg and great fries on the side. My friend enjoyed her salad but said she couldn’t taste any curry. Drinks were good as well. Very cute restaurant. Only issue was, probably because we’re younger, service was pretty bad. The friend I happened to be with is a waitress and repeatedly said she would never ignore a table for as long as we were left alone. Otherwise, I’d go again.
We had a large group, 11, and I could not have been happier with the evening. the service was truly outstanding - attentive, active, always on top of our needs. Food is good bistro food - but it was just what we needed with something for everyone. We were also surprised that the noise level was really manageable. Overall, an excellent experience.
Service was off on this visit, food is always good for a neighborhood place
Restaurante oscuro, con mal olor (humedad) y carta de restaurante con pocos platos y menú de sándwich y hamburguesas (no Frances).
great food and friendly. Loved the wine selection.
L'Express is a gem, a relaxed place to meet friends over great French bistro food.
Lovely restaurant to sit outside and people-watch!
My wife and I went for brunch. The food was very good and our server was right on the spot with ice for the water and a refill of my coffee cup. Have dined here before for lunch and dinner and always return when looking for a casual spot that's open 24/7.
This is one of my friend's frequently visited restaurants, and the ambiance was lovely. We split a house salad -- it wasn't anything special but very good -- and I had the mussels while she had the pot pie. I liked the broth for the mussels but thought most of them were tiny, and had to ask waitress twice for bread to soak up some of the broth. My friend's pot pie was yummy, however.
Have been there before and will always continue to visit!
It took 20 minutes for the waiter to acknowledge us. In his defense, he must have been covering over 12 tables, inside and outside the restaurant. We had asked for some bread with our appetizers, which never came. All the hot food came to our table lukewarm at best. An incredibly disappointing dinner.
I would visit again. It was a busy Friday night , so you can't expect top notch service, but the service was still adequate. The food and wine were good.
My salad was awful - poached egg was cold and hard-boiled. The road was very noisy and the windows were open. The waitress was nice, but everything else was very ordinary.
I had a pretty good hamburger but it definitely needed seasoning. My wife had the beet salad with goat cheese and said it was quite good. We shared a tart tatin, very good, and I had a pretty good cup of coffee, although at $5 I would think twice about ordering it again.
Great location, drinks and food overall were good.
Always good food no matter what you choose. Service is considerate without being overwhelming or hurried. Prices are reasonable and considering the portions, well set.
Food was fresh and delicious, service was prompt and friendly, not expensive, good value, good time.
