Lovely way to enjoy Valentines’ Day dinner. Tasting Menu was quite fun, with many unique combinations, and service was both personable and impeccable. Ambiance was perfect got easy conversation and seating on couch was nice. Only downside was the cost of the meal which was quite extravagant and only partially mitigated by a $100 gift certificate for a charity donation. Recommend highly if on expense acct. or $ no concern!

Went for our anniversary, and were sorely disappointed by the lackluster service and mediocre food. Dare I say I enjoyed my lox lunch at Ikea more than my dinner at L'Espalier? $600 poorer and I feel like I was ripped off. While the wine and cheese we were served were delicious, there was not a dish we were served to write home about and seasoning and plating were all over the place. When no one checked on our experience by the sixth course of our eight course meal, I finally called our server over and his explanation was he didn't think the chef was in the kitchen tonight (a Saturday) which is no excuse at all when the dining is supposed to be at the caliber of L'Espalier. I wrote them an email and hope to hear back from them with some sort of resolution, but it sounds like I am not alone in my experience. Not sure what is going on in the kitchen, but man am I happy we didn't spring for the chef's table as we were originally thinking about doing. My advice is to skip it and head to one of the 50 great restaurants in the Boston area that can offer you a significantly better dining experience for half the money.
Conceptually each dish was good on paper, but not great, and could have used something extra to take it to another level. However, before even worrying about that, the kitchen needs to focus on properly executing things in terms of flavor. Much of the food tasted bland and needed more salt. That alone would have carried the dishes farther flavor wise. Tasting food and seasoning is the basics. For the price and reputation, we were disappointed. You can’t charge people that much and not put some wow into your creations, let alone not use salt and tasting spoons.
Service was nice, but also had no wow factor. Sommelier, managers, and floor staff seemed to be going through the steps rather than sharing an experience with their guest. The staff seemed bored, which made the experience boring. Just rambling off wine info, like it was on a 3x5 in front of them.

Unfortunately we had very mediocre food and poor service. Literally nothing at all stood out as having a special taste. The service was confused and not professional and our main course arrived cold. Our first choice of wine was not available. Seems to have gone downhill from the last time we ate here. Will not be returning and can not recommend it.

Exceptional tastes! Inventive presentations. Extremely delicious, especially the roast duck for two people. Be ready to spend a lot of money, but the variety of food and the amazing tastes were memorable.
Food was great, but had horrible service. Our main server seemed nervous and disheveled. We had the Chef’s Tasting Menu - highlighting the Best of L’espalier. The food was great, but the plates came out with mumbled announcements of the dish, no explanations. Nothing to make the experience worthwhile. I’m hoping it was just an off day.
My wife an I celebrated our first wedding anniversary and decided to really do it up. The service was great and this was my first official fine dining experience. So since I am not used to it the only thing that was slightly annoying was constantly getting new silverware for each dish. While I understand why that it is and the purpose for that, it just causes more interruptions during the whole meal that I am used to and normally like. I admit however that is a very nit-picky thing to say and all things considered not a big deal. We really enjoyed the whole meal and even items I was precarious about how I would like them based on the menu description, were all outstanding. This place certainly lived up the hype and we hope one day to return for another occasion.

A truly wonderful culinary experience, particularly since we had the chef’s tasting journey with the vintner’s wine pairing. Creative and filling dishes all paired with exceptional wines. Highly recommended, but keep in mind the menu starts at $100 and goes up from there.
We went for the "Chef's Tasting Journey" course this time. Each plate was showcasing different combinations of colors, tastes and textures, very beautifully presented to tell a story. The entire course was like a suite of fine arts.
We had an amazing experience at L’Espalier for our anniversary! As soon as we walked in, they wished us a happy anniversary and took our coats. We were quickly seated and our waiter, Alberto asked if we had any food allergies. I told him I was gluten-intolerant, not expecting how accommodating they would be! My husband and I picked the same menu, but all of my dishes were made specifically without gluten and were still so so delicious. After our regular dessert, Alberto brought out a rich chocolate mousse with a candle in it for our anniversary. We finished with coffee and tea which was a perfect ending. Thanks, L’Espalier!
Our meal at L’Espalier was an incredible event, every bit as special as I hoped it would be. Expectations met and exceeded. We have the N.1 8-course meal with the wine pairings. Each course was beautifully presented, delicious, and surprising in a wonderful way. The wine parings were wonderful. Our server, Richard, was fantastic and it was easy and relaxed without the pompous feeling that one can have at similar places. Price was very high. But the value was there.

Went for New Years Eve. A mistake. I've heard great things about L'espalier. Service was not very accommodating to my fiancée's allergies. Not a terrible problem since certain shellfish only causes her abdominal symptoms, not anaphylactic shock. The food that wasn't ok was worse. The cheese "course" was "an alpine style cheese from the Pomerol region." It was tasteless and still cold from refrigeration. The meat, ostensibly from a rib roast, was tough and full of gristle. Finally and least consequentially, I notice a 2% charge for the kitchen staff added to the check. There was a note explaining that this was to be fair to the kitchen but it wasn't to be considered a gratuity. Notwithstanding the kind explanation, I took the $10 off my tip which was 20% so the waitstaff got 18% which was more than reasonable for the only adequate service. I'm sure that the problem was NYE but I don't think that I will go back to check this theory out.
Wow. I took my gf here Dec 30, as part of a New Year’s weekend. We were blown away. This was an experience that neither of us will forget. The 12-course tasting menu was exquisite, and the wine pairings were exceptional. The portion sizes were perfect, as were the wine pours. We left feeling perfectly satisfied, but not over-stuffed or tipsy. I have been to many of the best restaurants in Boston, and have had tasting menus, too. This was by far the best experience I have had.
If you’re considering going here, do your homework or you will probably be shocked by the prices. I checked online to see a sample menu (changes daily) and prices, and I knew it would likely be the most expensive meal I have ever had. If you want the full experience (12-course tasting menu plus wine pairings), expect to pay north of $450 pp, including tax and a good tip. Yes, you read that correctly. Also, plan on 3+ hours. If you choose the least-expensive option (5-course menu without wine), it’s probably around $125-150 pp; the tables near us that arrived at the same time and appeared to select that option were gone before we were halfway through.
This was, hands-down, the best dining experience I have ever had. I highly recommend it (given the warnings above).
Absolutely amazing! Could not have asked for a better evening. Staff were all wonderful, very knowledgeable and attentive without being intrusive.
Food was all incredible well seasoned and flavours complimented each other perfectly. My only complaint I was too full to enjoy all the beautiful dessert I could only fit one bite and my partner had to eat the rest! Lucky him!!

The dishes were all very good or excellent. We really enjoyed the creativity and artistic plating. The service was a little rough. Hope they serve those pretty creations more gently.
The servers were not experienced and struggled with representing the dishes. The overall service was sub-par for the price. The ambiance was not warm and inviting, it seemed like any other restaurant.
Nice tea service. We did a nice stop while shopping. We've done tea there before, but quite a few years ago. We normally prefer Taj Tea, as it's closer to a traditional tea service. The service here is excellent overall. Unlike Taj, where you get a "stand with plates, in this case they come out with the plates separate. First they have the savories & then the sweets. It started with a nice Eggnog topped with a nice Cognac. Very refreshing & tasty. You also start with a holiday "Cracker". These are like the party crackers you had as a kid. You pull them apart quickly & with a small bang(really small)small cute prizes come out. The prizes are small & the joke card was really corny with the jokes, but that made it fun. The savories consist of small tea sandwiches such as: Cucumber, Chix salad, Egg salad, a small Lobster puff(these used to be larger in the past, oh well!)Smoked Salmon. For the sweets: Scones with honey/Pear curd/Clotted cream(the real thing!)several delectable sweets & a nice choice of tea from the selection in the menu. Standard price was $55PP. You could choose a nice selection from the optional connoisseurs collection, but we stuck with the overall excellent English Breakfast tea. Overall a splendid treat, before venturing back into the cold to do Christmas shopping. Though we prefer Taj a bit more, they've been slipping a bit lately & figured we'd go back to L'Espalier. Well worth the trip!
Lovely afternoon with wonderful food and service.
We've visited a few times in the past and have been absolutely impressed with the service, wine pairings, tasting menu, etc. Certainly a "Special Occasion" type of experience, but when that is the case, the expectations are always high. This time around, we left feeling a bit underwhelmed. The beef and lamb as the main course were both a bit tough, and the truffle added to the beet appetizer was completely overpowered and unnoticeable.
Overall, the dining experience is a pleasure, and the service is over-the-top impressive. This time around though, we felt the value for the experience was not quite up to par.
We tried the 5-course-Tasting Menu which is good. We get out from the elevator and no one is coming to us which let us disappointed! But other services were good. The butter is great, but the rosemary one is not as good as last time I tried. The sea salt one is better this time. The desserts’ plating is ugly, thought it tastes good. Overall the food is enjoyable and we’re happy
