Wonderful meal and a wonderful evening
Lovely experience from start to finish. Came for lunch and sat at a beautiful table by the window. We each had the 5 course meal option and enjoyed every dish we tried. We will definitely be coming back on our next visit to Boston.
Very elegant and very well attended, the food is very good and nice wine list. The general value is very very good.
Impeccable service, outstanding and creative food and gorgeous presentation, relaxed and elegant ambience. One of the most special dining experiences in Boston.
Excellent dinner for our 5-year anniversary, very nice staff, comfortable seating, well balanced menu (not heavy for a 5 courses!), thanks for this very enjoyable evening!!
Not sure whether the food or the service was more disappointing. The service was disinterested to downright poor. The Captain barely Feiner interest and was generally unavailable. Wine glasses went empty for extended periods. One server didn't know the ingredients on a plate. But the food was no better. Nothing exciting or distinctive. No passion. Old school. Even the Roei Gras was oh so bland. Very disappointing. Also very expensive.
The meal was prefixed and the first courses were very good but for all of us (3) the entrees were very poorly prepared. One was listed as a “rack of lamb” which implies 2 or 3 chops but there was just 1. I mentioned to the waiter medium rare and was told they know just how to cook them which for me was close to raw. The others had steak extremely tough and hard to cut . All completely unacceptable.
Good food, good service. Just not so sure that Menu 1 was really worth the $700 (with tips) price tag.
Was a birthday. Felt it was more a business ocasion
My wife and I always enjoy dinner here when we come to Boston. We always get the tasting menu (there are two choices with different number of courses) along with wine pairings. It makes for a wonderful dining experience, albeit rather expensive.
Such a gem for boston! Old world European service and decor. Very clean farm to table menu. Everything was perfect love the wine pairings! Really top notch and best restaurant in boston if you’re lokkkng for high end.
Afternoon tea was a magnificent affair! The service was impeccable and responsive, the anniversary blend tea was a terrific balance of flavor, and the range of savory and sweet offerings were perfectly plated and tasted incredible. The entire experience was beyond what I could have imagined.
The food was creative and prepared perfectly, the staff was professionally polite and attentive, and the ambience was conducive to quiet conversation.
I’ve been to L’Espalier a few times and always had a great experience. This time however, the experience was tainted by the food. The dishes were subpar compared to my previous visits. The Amuse Bouche had nothing special about it and majority of the dishes were quite bland. Out of a dozen dishes 1 or 2 were in line with what I expected from the place. I confess I left thinking I paid way too much for what I had.
I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and say it was an one off experience, but must admit I will now be hesitant to suggest the restaurant to friends who ask where to go for a fine dinning experience.
My favorite restaurant in Boston. The service is always impeccable and the food always creative and wonderful. You can’t go wrong! The Sunday brunch is lunch so don’t expect omlets although they did offer to make some for us. That’s how nice they are. Enjoy!
This venerable classic still delivers explosive tastes in every mouthful. Superb locally sourced farm to table ingredients and stellar service. It is truly a culinary journey!
The food is very poor for the price. The quality of the food and the taste was really not at all special and was mediocrely at best. Compared to the very high price the food was very poor and even of very low quality. This restaurant should be missed!!! By contrast the wine pairing was good. The quality of the wives was very fine and the sommelier was very knowledgeable. The waiters on the other hand knew nothing about the dishes being offered. This restaurant pretends to be a high quality fine dining establishment but is nothing of the sort. The photos on the internet of the dishes look great but the taste is another matter. This restaurant should be shut down for false advertising!
Afternoon tea. Elegant setting. Inelegant service. For the price point service should be on point.
Food creative but not satisfying more amuse bouche serving than what you would consider traditional tea fare.
Asked repeatedly for milk. No tongs or spoon for sugar bowl on table, had to ask. Asked repeatedly for check and had to wait. And wait. Asked for contact info for tarot card reader and left my business card. Promised an email later that say. Still waiting days later. My guests had a pleasant time, but came away with no urgency to revisit anytime soon.
Exceptional food and service. Can’t wait to go back.
The food tastes too salty to eat! Especially the vegetables. The meat was cured in a weird flavor. As a high end restaurant, service was great. However, I have to say, sorry, I will never go there again. It costs $250 for 2 ppl and we didn’t eat well.
Great old style French dine
My husband, Stu, and I booked the 10 course tasting at the Chef's Table in the kitchen to celebrate his birthday.
We were seated on comfortable chairs at a counter overlooking all of the action. Our dedicated server for the evening, Megan, was a sheer delight from start to finish. We can't praise her highly enough. I ordered the wine pairing. There wasn't a single bite of food or sip of wine that we didn't enjoy enormously.
Amuse-bouches then farm fresh egg with Osetra caviar. J Lassalle Preference non-vintage champagne
Salad of yellow beets, fines herbes and raw spring vegetables with chevre. 2014 Philippe Gourdon "Les Amendiers" Chenin Blanc.

Grilled Maine lobster with confit hazelnuts, roasted strawberries, pico de gallo and toasted nori. 2012 Meursault "Les Tillets" from Hubert Bouzereau-Gruere.
Torchon of foie gras with blistered peaches, apricots and cherry-Sauternes jam with 2015 Coteaux de Layon Rablay

Squab with a buttermilk "risotto" and liver vinaigrette. 2014 Meo-Camuzet Bourgogne
Pineland Farms sirloin with lime sesame vinaigrette, ginger potato pave and Australian truffle. 2015 Chateau de Montmal.
Cheese course with well chosen accouterments. 2015 Cidrerie du Vulcain, Poire.
Delicious dessert (forgot what). 2015 Braida, Brachetto d'Acqui, a slightly sparkly sweet red. They also served a sweet little cupcake with a candle to fete Stu, as well as a small selection of mignardises, which I enjoyed with espresso.
During the course of the meal Chef McClelland came over to chat with us and some of the team also came by. It was a relaxed but totally high end fine dining experience. We couldn't have chosen a better restaurant, it really made Stu's birthday special!
Great tasting experience with wine pairing for a special night out!
I found this place by accident and uncovered a true gem. This place is officially on my list for every visit to Boston.
Wait staff confused between menus of evening and expressed wants by phone. Moved twice from one room to another due to confusion
Food , while very good, enormously over priced. Less value than what we enjoyed years ago.
Wait staff somewhat naive yet supercilious.
Great food but Bizarrely expensive, I have been to french restaurants around the world including Paris but not as expensive as this one. Cheese plate portion is ridiculously small, cheese was all from Vermont which I never knew they produced such great cheese. Very weird bill which included additional charges not on the menu, I paid around 500$ and we were only two.
The combination of fine dining and yet friendly and relax feeling
The food was delicious. They also accommodated our many allergies with good dishes not just replacements. We really appreciated that!
Having been here my last time in Boston I was excited to go back and even brought additional NY friends with me. Unfortunately the minute we stepped off the elevator, we were hit with a wave of hot air. The air-conditioning was not working and we were not notified prior to our arrival. Having a lovely dinner in a horribly hot setting with poor service was not what I was looking forward to. I will not be back
This is a very posh and sophisticated French restaurant and I had a great time. The staff I met are all super professional and friendly.
Exquisite dining with fine food, excellent service, spectacular wine list with matching $$. Worth it for someone special. Wish I had known that there really were only 3 choices - chef’s choice and either a 5 or8 course menu.
Outstanding outstanding and outstanding. The level of detail, the wine matching and the service. Highly recommended...
Came here for my birthday dinner and it was absolutely amazing!!! We got the no. #1, 8 course meal and every bite was incredible. Service was impeccable. Had a pre dessert, actual dessert and they gave us a post dessert as we left. Also gave me an adorable lemon poppy cupcake!
Elegant dining with fixed menus. Enthusiastic servers. Nice atmosphere. Aircon was overly aggressive so we were cold
the room was very cold we had to ask for the ac to be reset
despite that a lovely evening, great flavors and food .
kind of wish we could order off a menu instead of 12,8 or 5 course meal
Great service from beginning to end. Excellent food. They tried really hard to please my picky 10 and 12 year old children. Thank you and we will be back.
The service is thoughtful and the food is exquisite
The food was awesome!! The best. And I have eaten ana lot of very nice places
Service was so poor we could not enjoy the meal. Our head waiter could not have been less attentive. When he showed up, he never addressed my wife, only me. After he first took our order he never came back to the table, I had to ask another waiter to order another glass of wine. All the waiters served me first from water to bread to each course, then served my wife. In addition, service was so forced, stiff and uncomfortable. Bottom line, a wasted evening.
