Lovely environment. Nice to have plenty of space between the tables. Good service, relaxed but efficient. Super food
Quite cosy place, but a bit impersonal service and food that lacked this “extra” I normally find in a French bistro. The foie gras terrine was very good (still over priced), the onion soup tasted as expected but the beef tartare looked like wet dog food. I’m sad to say, but for this cost level I expect much more.
Last minute booking after looking for a nice restaurant near the Phoenix Theatre. It was a delight. Very cosy and smart but not pretentious. We took the Menu fixe and it was really good value. Quality food nicely served and plenty too. All very tasty. At £19 for two courses and 22 for three it was great value. We lived in Paris and this food was just as good, if not better, than Bistros we frequented and paid 30euro plus for three smallish courses.
Congratulations and we’ll be back when we’re next in town.
Lovely meal, if a little salty. Lovely wine, ambience and service. Would recommend!
Atmosfera e cucina francese a Soho. Ristorante in stile classico, con tanto di caminetto. Accoglienza e servizio professionali. Pietanze francesi in ambiente rilassante.
I always enjoy this place - can’t wait to go back
Fastastic food and service as ever.
L'Escargot never disappoints. Simply the best classic French cuisine in London.
We’ve spent our New Year’s Eve at l’Escargot and we had an amazing time. The food is delicious, the staff is very professional and the ambiance is cosy. I recommend it if you love French food.
Great restaurant in the Soho area. We had a great meal here on NYE. The escargot was delicious, as were our two entrees. I had the lobster bisque as an appetizer, which was the only item not excellent. Our waiter was very pleasant and responsive. Check out this place.
We went for our anniversary meal last year and thoroughly enjoyed it. So decided to go again.
It was a shame that it wasn’t as enjoyable, the service felt rushed, we’d had a cocktail as an aperitif , starter and main course all in under an hour.
Whilst the food was delicious, the rushed service also felt quite impersonal.
Una experiencia para estar presente con todos los sentidos !
One of my favourite restaurants anywhere! Enjoyed a lovely pre-theatre dinner and service was excellent especially Emily our waitress.
Very nice place for the special occasion! We had a quite table on the side of the room, very cosy and private. Food was nice, outstanding escargots (definitely recommend it, we like it with a bit of bread), however duck for the main was a bit dry... Service was pleasant, sometimes slow but it was a busy Saturday's night. Overall a great experience, will recommend this restaurant to everyone, who's looking for a fancy night and loves snails :)
I had high hopes for this restaurant based on the amazing reviews. Unfortunately everything besides the snails and Soufflés were a let down.
Unfortunately the service was also incredibly slow and the waiters seemed completely disinterested.
This was not worth the price. They had a good wine selection but we needed to signal for the waiters attention to get a refill.
The food was fabulous - price was reasonable - wine & cocktails very good - service was good but they weren’t as attentive as they could have been, we had to call for them several times throughout the evening but they were very nice & professional.
One of our guests were gluten free - they didn’t have any gluten free bread options which was disappointing - also they didn’t have any vegan options which wasn’t great.
Been around for ages - a Londin institution and still good.
Absolutely wonderful food, service and ambience I would not hesitate in returning. Thank you 😊
Would not recommend.
I was expecting a far better meal having read reviews from food critics whom I admire. Ok, I get that the restaurant is trying to create a traditional French menu but the dishes classic though they are must have been chosen only since they require no great cooking skill. Good confit de canard and escargots are available from tins and steak frites is a not a challenging dish to get right.
A comfortable yet unmemorable dining experience.
BEWARE DOG OWNERS! Despite the their website stating that they are a dog friendly restaurant, they are not at all! Our tiny dog was not allowed to sit in our lap. And we where told this only when we where seated. The rude way we where told by the manager, only made matters worse. We ended up just leaving.
There are loads of dog friendly restaurants in London, I would suggest that you go to one that is actually dog friendly. Don’t waste your time on one.
A lovely meal in a beautiful restaurant. Booked this for my birthday and it was perfect. Quiet, elegant with delicious food and superb service. Our waiter was so attentive, without be intrusive. Recommend the venison especially - cooked to perfection (pink, medium rare). A lovely surprise birthday treat at the end of the meal too. Thank you!
This place is special. The atmosphere is busy but discrete. The food is classic and delicious. They have had a long time to tweak things for the better and it shows.
Food was quite expensive for what it was, good though not outstanding. Very well appointed room but staff were pretty nondescript, lacking both character and any empathy/warmth.
A 1940's film-set feel to this spacious dining area. Good food, a bit expensive, but not outrageous. Certainly worth visiting.
The service and food from the set price menu were great. We were well looked after and the waiter picked up that my son had got engaged and brought out a lovely surprise of a congratulatory dessert without being asked. However, the backstage areas need a lot of attention. Very shabby and tired and cracked mirroring in the ladies washrooms. Such a shame as the rest of the experience was very good.
Lovely meal - pre theatre excellent value and generous portions. Lovely atmosphere and great friendly service
Excellent food, service and ambiance — an outstanding restaurant in the centre of Soho.
Very noisy, bustling atmosphere but perfect if you like French Brasserie vibe. Attentive service, good food and an overall enjoyable and satisfying experience.
This was one of the worst, if not the worst, dining experiences we have ever had. We had a 1030 reservation, but by 1140 when we had just gotten our main course, the waiter was sent over by the manager to tell us that everyone must be out of the restaurant by midnight. This put a wet blanket on what was our 26th wedding anniversary dinner. We had just gotten a second round of wine and had barely taken the first sip when this cowardly manager sent this new and lovely Waiter over to give us this bad news. Why would they take a 1030 reservation at a fine and expensive restaurant unless they were going to allow us to enjoy our meal? It was a good thing we arrived 15 minutes earlier than our stated reservation time or we would not even have been served the main course by the time they were telling us we needed to leave. There were two other tables that were finishing their meals/ desserts at that moment. One was still there when we got up and left. No dessert and coffee for us. Very expensive and truly horrible experience.
Meals were delicious especially boeuf bourguignon and staff was friendly and very professional. Loved live piano music, atmosphere and that restaurant is located in the heart of Soho, very convenient. Definitely will be back.
Pleasant space, rather romantic. Average French bistro food--certainly acceptable, but not so good I'd want to go back.
The food was excellent and the staff very attentive. The atmosphere was good too, would definitely go again
A wonderful meal, but despite arriving on time for our pre-theatre meal (we allowed two full hours) we waited a long time for our mains and ended up having to leave three quarters of our desserts uneaten on our plates and depart. There was no offer to take the desserts off the bill, despite the fact they were too late for us to eat them. This was a disappointment as in other respects, it was excellent.
Absolutely exquisite in every way!
What a wonderful evening! L'Escargot was just as I had imagined it would be - stylish, smart and sexy; fantastic service with a cheeky smile and superb food in the classic French style. I will be back!
Everything about this place was great,-exceeded my expectations actually (which were quite lofty)!!! The escargot is simply a must, the scallops appetizer was amazing, and my only issue was deciding on a main!!!! Desserts were varied and delicious! The atmosphere is smart casual, not stuffy at all, and in one of the most lively parts of London! The staff was very knowledgeable, friendly, and professional! Honestly, can’t wait to go back!
The staff were excellent and attentive and really made the occasion
All very good ie food, service, ambiance, the room. So why no fifth star? The lobster’s a little big bigger elsewhere, the vegetarian options limited and the price a little more competitive. So after 100 hundred years there is still room for improvement. But it’s still very good!
We went to l'Escargot for a quick post- cinema meal and just had one course. We choose the same thing (cod with lentils and chorizo) and it was really good. Well cooked, full of flavour and just right for a late evening meal. It wasn't cheap, but the quality made the price worth it...
We tried to think of another restaurant for this year's company Christmas lunch but it was pointless! We just love L'Escargot so much we went back and were not disappointed. Literally everything was perfect and the staff are most efficient whilst being the most laid back in town. Highly recommend.
