We were greeted at the door and the host called us by name and seating us and making us feel special. The food was delicious-I look forward to a menu with a few more items, maybe a chicken or fish in appetizer size. Our brunch was delightful and I recommend it highly. We went for brunch and will be back.
We were in town for the night and chose this place for the menu and the wine.
We were not disappointed- it was brilliant. They had a Blues nite and we were seated next to the band. It was loud and conversation was difficult so we ended up just chilling out and enjoying the music - which was perfect.
The food was unreservedly given 2 thumbs up. From the opening cheese board, to the lamb meatballs and the tagliatelle to the dessert. Everything tasted vibrant and fresh and the accompanying Provence wines were really good.
We will be back Les Marchands!!
This is an excellent restaurant. The patio on a warm evening is intoxicating. The food is excellent and there were a lot of choices for vegetarians like myself. The wait staff was friendly and never let us want for everything. Might be the best bartenders in the city. My favorite restaurant in Santa Barbara.
The wait staff was gracious and attentive. The food delicious and beautifully prepared .
Always good. Sometimes very busy and can be a little loud but still fun. It was quiet on this occasion and the service was a little lax as a result, always enjoyable.
Food, service, atmosphere amazing. Never disappoints.
This may be be my favorite restaurant in SB. The food is the freshest and most creative without being fussy. The vibe is local and friendly but staff is professional and knowledgeable of their great wine list. However don’t miss their craft cocktails as they are also excellent. Just love love love this place! I hesitate writing a review for fear too many people may get wind of this gem.
This is our second Mother’s Day at Les Merchands. The service was polite and friendly. We enjoyed our food.
The table was terrible. I was very frustrated that they would seat us on top of the waiter station. One of our guests was constantly being bumped into and they were opening drawers into his back and his chair. We felt like the waitstaff was on top of us. It was disappointing and distracting .
Excellent food, service and ambiance. We loved it!
Great ambience, very good good, wine list and service outstanding.
Both casual and elegant!
We had a family diner here on a Saturday night, including 2 kids and a grandparent. It took us a while to figure out the menu, the staff was kind enough to explain it to us. There was not much choice for our 4 year old but he absolutely loved their fries and our 9 year old said it was the best burger he ever had. The avocado toast was superb and the lamb meatballs were delicious and plenty! We were sitting outside so we could clearly hear the live band playing next door. I didn’t mind but for my elderly mother it was a bit much, just something to keep in mind for those who are sensitive to noise. Overall a great experience.
Everything was delicious! We tried the biscuit with housemade strawberry jam, followed by avocado toast and chicken with waffle and washed it all down with a little Bliss and Bloody Mary. Very fresh food and super flavorful!
Here for brunch with a friend with major allergies & the whole staff made sure she got what she wanted. They were kind & very accommodating. Strongly recommend!
Les M. has long been my go-to restaurant for a quick dinner with my husband or an early dinner and wine with friends. But this visit something had changed. The food was only passable, the staff was completely different (and acted uncertain), and even the wine shop seemed disorganized. A major upheaval of some kind and not for the better?
The food was overpriced and there were not a lot of gluten free options. We had the charcuterie plate which was good and I had a GF burger with no bun and fries. They had no fish on the menu which was odd. Our waiter was very nice and attentive.
Had another awesome experience at Les Marchands- a favorite for great wine selection and delicious food—great service from people who know wine and food, fun indoor/outdoor environment!
Excellent server especially knowledgeable about the wine list. Food was very good and creative. Well return soon.
The menu is delicious and now geared for a proper dinner. Service was very good — our cocktails were a bit slow to come. The front of the house person was aware of this, and gave us a pour of sparkling wine. Liked how he was paying attention. Very pleased with service, food and ambience — will be returning to dine again soon.
Very pleasant. The menu needs explaining, but the waiter was good at that. I was at the counter, and the barman was very helpful.
Les Marchands is the best restaurant in Santa Barbara for Sunday brunch. Consistently delicious food and wine. Friendly and knowledgeable staff that deliver exceptional service. Truly a neighborhood gem.
Seated at table that was tucked next to service station so all wait staff are gathering and getting table settings literally on top of our backs. You also get to hear all staff conversations and complaints during our brunch. The food was only so-so and many of the entrees were surprizingly oily. Overall not what I was expecting based on reviews. On the positive side out server was attentive and was the best part of our experience.
Amazing food , service and trendy spot
The food is creative and wonderful and the atmosphere was warm and charming on a rainy night. The fried chicken was wonderful
We had a great afternoon surprising our girlfriend for her birthday!
Great food and excellent wine selection. Really enjoyable patio seating, great for a date!
Loved the restaurant! It was beautiful inside and the meals were well priced. We all enjoyed our food, though my friend was disappointed in the lack of gluten free options.
This was our second time at Les Marchands. It was a cold night but the patio was well heated and we were very comfortable. They have one of the best wine lists in town and the bartender knows how to make a proper Manhattan, this is not to be said for many of the restaurants in Santa Barbara. My wife and I are vegetarians as was our server who was able to adjust our orders so that meat was eliminated. Everything we had was delicious. The patio is a wonderful place to spend a nice evening.
Had a wonderful time. Food was delicious and the wine list was great
Great ambiance. Creative food selection. Wild boar papardelle and smoked salmon rillete were outstanding.
Highly recommend for a date or double date.
Love this place. It’s perfect for a weekend brunch with friends.
Delicious small, share-plate menu with options for everyone. Set in a wine bar with modern atmosphere – perfect for a date or small group. Very good wine list including lots of local varieties. Run by the same management as The Lark next door, it delivers the same high-quality, in a quainter environment, and a different menu. Highly recommended.
Have been eating at the Lark since it opened so we wanted to try Les Marchands for a 5:30 dinner. Initial greeting was disappointing, host wanted to seat us at a high top table which my wife doesn't like; now there's only 4 people seated so we ask for a low table and were told "sorry they're all booked". Now mind you when we left there were only 8 people in the restaurant with no one at their low 4 tops!!! So it's like FU smarty manager, we don't need to return, especially when I'm paying a $200 tab!
Food: tried their touted fried chicken: if you want to know chicken get down to Georgia-The Carolinas-Bama. This was a pretty unseasoned bland chicken smothered in a gravy, nicely cooked bone out. Would order the gravy on the side and load up with the Crystal. 3 Cheese plate was fair: no fresh apple/pear slices just 2 kinds of bread, jam was good, cheese was good..
Bar: ok selection of wine by the glass, cocktails good.
Design: we liked the build out
Service: excellent server tried to make up for manager/greeter misstep.
Probably wouldn't go back until front of the house get's straightened out.
This is our go to spot for brunch when we visit Santa Barbara. The food is amazing, I don't think you can order a bad thing. The ambiance is nice too, love sitting outside. Completely recommend.
Such an interesting menu with fresh flavors and unique combinations. Even though it was chilly outside, the heaters kept us warm!
Love this place whenever I need a good night out...special go-to place with friends and they always want to go back too. Consistently high marks in food, vibe and wonderful attentive wait staff. You just don't have to worry about the evening. It will be perfect.
always a lovely dining experience .... and we were in the mood for all the yummy food faves that are so delicious... then to have great wine and conversation... perfect
My 3rd time eating at Les Marchands and my 3rd time ordering the fried chicken. OMG...this fried chicken is ridiculously good. Highly recommended splitting it with a friend though as it's a huge portion.
Very pretty patio, and the interior is nice as well - it's basically a wine shop that becomes a restaurant. The focus is the wine - an excellent list, great by-the-glass selection, and the wines are well cared-for and served in good glasses at the proper temperature. All things that should be common but sadly, aren't.
Food is inconsistent - some items are very good (at least on the brunch menu), some fall flat. No faulting the ingredients, so perhaps a lack of chefly attention? Yet overall a welcoming and enjoyable place that just needs to tighten up a bit.
This was a place that I'd been trying to go and taste food for a while. It is owned by the same people that own the Lark and was featured in Sunset Magazine a couple of years back. It's a cozy French bistro style vibe with several patio tables. The wine selection is varied and broad, and the cocktail list was solid. A friend and I were in the mood for Sunday brunch. Voila! While I thought ahead to make the reservation, I failed to specify "patio". So we sat indoors, and that was not as nice as the patio for daytime (but I'll admit indoors seems better for dinner). We tried the fried chicken and sourdough waffles, which were excellent, especially if you enjoy hot sauce. Theirs was a secret house made recipe. Super good. The frittata was nothing special, but the preparation was covered in a very fine and fragrant arugula, the best part of the dish. A shortcoming is the paucity of sweets offered for brunch. All in all, nice service, good cocktails and very good food. Parking was also sparse, so arrive early as this area is popular.
We've been to Les Marchands three times this week, bringing different people each time. They have loved it as have we.
Keep having semi-soft cheeses and that delicious grilled olive bread. And I love your salads too.
Lively bar scene, good wines, delicious small menu. Love it!
