Les Deux Gamins
Join us here in Montreal for an authentic and warm experience, as if you were in Paris! Sitting on our terrasse, in front of our fireplace at the bar or in the mezzanine, you will enjoy both our decor and the charm of our typical “Bistro parisien”.
Including our terrasse, the restaurant disposes of four different spaces. Each space can accomodate around 30 people meaning a maximum of 100 people.
We are located on Prince Arthur Est Street, one of the rare pedestrian in Montreal.
A short walk away from the Sherbrooke Metro Station, you will cross the pleasant square St-Louis to reach our restaurant.
Parking is also available on de Bullion street, Hotel de Ville street and around the square St-Louis.
The second room is on the same level than our bar. Of course, the bar is a lure by itself, but we will let you judge by yourself the happiness that our fire place give off the room through the long winter evenings. This room, the biggest, welcome fifty people.
Finally is our third room. Located on the second floor, the mezzanine will charm everybody as much in the winter than in the summer. The mezzanine tower the pedestrian. The two big garage doors, luminous before the sunset, open up totally to benefit the air flow when it’s too hot outside, but also will allow you to enjoy watching the snow through the windows when it will be cooler outside. The maximum capacity of the room is thirty people as well.
Excellent food! This place is a real French bistro. I had the lamb shank - the meat just fell off the bone and melted in your mouth. It was so good we are here twice in 4 nights in Montreal. I was always afraid to try French onion soup (soups with...onions??. I tried theirs, and wow...delicious!
Great food. We ate here twice in 4 nights in Montreal. Awesome lamb shank. Tasty duck confit. Delicious onion soup!
There was a thunderstorm, people from the patio had to move back inside so restaurant was crowded and noisy.
Loved it. Great food. Great location. Good French onion soup.
We were so glad to leave the crowds in downtown to enjoy Les Deux Gamins at an outside table. The duck entree was excellent and the goat cheese salad too. The Foie Gras was a bit dense for my liking. Overall it was a wonderful experience.
Waited two hours for table, forgot half the drinks - unfriendly
WOW. I made a reservation for this restaurant MONTHS in advance of a trip to Montreal. When I showed up the day of, the restaurant was closed. I noticed I had missed calls on my phone from an hour before. Shocking. These people knew about my reservation for MONTHS and didn't bother to tell me they were closed that day until one hour before my reservation. Pathetic.
Compte tenu des commentaires lus apparent je croyais manger un excellent repas ce qui ne fut pas le cas. La soupe à l'oignon est un désastre et le poisson qui nous fut servi ne sentait pas bon. Nous ne retournerons pas à cet endroit.
I had been there before, and I came back this time around as I knew the food was very good, especially the meat, we could eat outside and the weather was perfect for that. The staff is very friendly. We had a great meal to celebrate my son's graduation!
In short its a place I enjoyed enough to return, but without any dish I will crave or miss. Everything we ordered was decently good but not mind blowing. Good value for what it is. We got the tartare, foie gras and ribeye for 4 in med-rare which was a gorgeous dark pink - not really flavorful enough on its own but good with the herb butter spread and salt/pepper. Desserts are delicious.
I went online to find a reservation for a late dinner date on Friday night. There was a slot open for Les Deux Gamins. My girlfriend and I spent a half hour making our way to the restaurant to find out even though the reservation was accepted, the restaurant kitchen was already closed. The staff was friendly but I was disappointed they were listed as accepting reservations when in fact they weren't. We decided to go elsewhere that night and did not return during our weekend trip. Even though we did not enjoy a meal at Les Deux Gamins, I received a follow-up email saying I had been checked in, which never happened.
Oddly they were closed when we arrived. Every other time was perfect.
This is my favorite restaurant in Montreal. Great food, even better service.
Super souper, très bonne nourriture, bonne ambiance, un peu chère pour ce que c’est
Great experience, the food is excellent and it's a warm ambiance is cozy and not too big to relax. The french wine selection is interesting and our server did a perfect recommandation on wine that night. I recommend that place and would go again.
Great food and great service! Looking forward to visiting again soon.
It was fine. The menu is quite restricted. My son had the escargots and they were very bland and tasteless. Add some garlic!
I had the escargot and lamb. The food and service were great.
We made a very late last-minute booking for five for New Years Eve, when all the other 'recommendations' were totally booked and unavailable at any time. That made me nervous, but Les Deux Gamins turned out to be a real discovery, and we definitely will be back the next time we visit Montreal. The service was very friendly and the ambiance is the perfect neighbourhood French bistro vibe. My duck was a little chewy, but the food overall was excellent, and the steeped-in-garlic Spanish-style escargots perfect. We loved it — me especially, because it was my job to deliver a New Year's dinner for four American visitors — and Les Deux Gamins made me look like a totally plugged-in aficionado of the Montreal restaurant scene. Thank you for that! Au revoir!
Authentic French food and wonderful service. Highly recommend, especially when escaping tourist traps ; this is a lovely neighborhood bistro.
This "bistro" is aptly named based on the menu it provides--classic French dishes that your grandmother might have made if she were French. But although the menu is classic, the cooking is very modern. An elegant mixture of classic and nouvelle in a fashionable setting. I had the holiday menu with the magrait de canard--it was great! One of the few restaurants opened on Christmas eve and Christmas day. I ate here two years ago, thought it was great, and was happy to come back. I'll look forward to coming back again in the future.
We went for Christmas Day Dinner. They were swamped and only had a few servers but everything was pretty great. The food is very good here for the price. Interior is very cosy, Parisian cafe vibe. Tables are a bit smaller (cafe style) but they have seats with larger tables for groups. We had a wonderful meal and would love to come back.
Wonderful ambiance, looks like a French bistro. The waiter was attentive and creative in suggestions on how the two of us can combine our courses. The food is typically French bistro fare and very good!
Come early if you want a quiet ambience. After 7 PM and it can be a more buzz filled! Maybe it was because it was Christmas eve🙂
We were dining here for American Thanksgiving. They offer a delicious menu for the occasion and the place was jammed. We were not seated until almost 10:00pm. The turkey confit is not to be missed - so delicious! And the pumpkin dessert was also great.
Great service and incredible food
While in Montreal over the US Thanksgiving holiday, we were looking for a restaurant serving Thanksgiving dinner, and found Les Deux Gamins. They were serving a fixed Thanksgiving menu all evening. While not exactly like Grandma used to make, the meal was well prepared and presented, and the service was just right. There were several groups and other couples, but noise was not excessive. This is truly a French bistro - the talbles, the decor, dining on three levels - and made for a memorable experience. Too bad we were leaving the next day because I would have liked to try the restaurant again with their regular menu.
I have been here twice now for my birthday on the recommendation of a friend. Both times I have great service and meals. Very friendly staff who were happy to speak English, or put up with my bad French. The food is flavorful and fresh and very enjoyable. I recommend the lamb dish
nice little restaurant located in prince arthur street
food is good, but a bit pricy
service was excellent
The food was delicious. Try the discovery board when you go!
On our visit to Montreal, we decided to try this restaurant because of its good reviews. My duck confit and my husband's pasta were delicious, and our waitress friendly and obliging. But we had to wait at least 45 mins. for our dinner.
This was an excellent choice! The waitress provided excellent and attentive service and seemed genuinely happy to be there. The duck was tender and the steak was incredibly tasty. The prices for entrees were very reasonable making this a great value.
We were in Montreal for a couple of nights so we gave this place a try. Charming location, excellent food, and awesome service. We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience in Les Deux Gamins. Special shout out to the staff! We felt really well taken care of.
My wife and I shared the 'Butchers Cut' steak - it was enormous! We absolutely enjoyed it, but it was a lot of food for 2 people - probably more comfortable for 3.
We sat outside to eat, and there was some improvised live music going on in the courtyard nearby. Overall, a charming experience with good ambiance, great food, and excellent service. We would definitely dine here again.
Very good house terrine, steak tartare, foie gras & gravlox appetizers were ALL very good.
The duck leg was VERY good & crispy but a little pricy @ $24 for 1 leg & a pinch of salad.
Nice wine list. Friendly & polite servers!
The food was pretty good (warm goat cheese was fantastic) but the service was terrible -- an hour to get our salads, then another hour to get our entrees, then another 45 minutes to pay and leave -- and none of the staff was remotely apologetic about it. Outdoor seating is nice, but compared with the other restaurants nearby, this place is nothing special.
It was fine, not very special. The food was very good, server warm and attentive. No complaints just also no real standout.
I liked this place. Very pleasant outdoor seating and fairly classic bistro food. Well prepared. Fun people watching. Not expensive.
Very nice experience all around.
Fair but not a day good as their neighbors "Le Square".
Enjoyed a fantastic meal. They also generously accommodated our youngest eater (7) and made him a pasta dish he loved. Wonderful ambiance further enhanced by being located in a pedestrian walkway. Parking is a little bit of a challenge. Can't wait to go again when we are next in Montreal.
