This was our annual visit to the restaurant. We drove 2.5 hours each way but it is always worth the trip. I do believe that since it was three days before the restaurant closed for the season that the menu was somewhat limited.
All three of us had the Wagyu beef. It was fantastic. Extremely tender and full of flavor. And the Panna Cotta desert was fantastic as well.
Looking forward to their opening of the restaurant in June 2022
Everything was exceptionally well prepared and flavorful. The waiter was great and recommended a perfect Bordeau. We took a bottle and a loaf if bread to go. For us, top restaurant of 2021.
Absolutely wonderful food and service. We were outside on the deck and got to hear a fabulous operatic duet by 2 of the servers.
Fine dining together with a well executed creative menu made for a memorable evening . Highly recommended .
Food was so flavorful and delicious great atmosphere and views not to mention excellent service. If your in the eastern U.P. in the summer treat yourself. A little pricey but a great treat👍
Like being transported to a different place. Great atmosphere and food!
That's our third time in Les Cheneaux Culinary School. Would come back many more!
We were seated on the patio. One member of our party needed a gluten-free meal. That need was handled easily and hospitably. One member of our party, noting that while vegetables served on the side of an entree often seem an afterthought , the vegetables that accompanied her steak were so flavorful that she was still thinking of them an hour later. Our dessert of brûléed peach was excellent— the accompanying scoop of five-spice-flavor ice cream was a brilliant inspiration. All in all, we had a delicious and memorable meal.
Great meal experience. Great view great place to visit.
One of the teachers was our servers wonderful experience
Well worth the drive to this out of the way place. Beautiful setting, good food and service. Sat on the patio on warm August evening and had a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
Absolutely love this place. Great Dining Experience!
Wonderful food, drinks, and people. If you could summarize a Michigan summer into one meal, this is it.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. We ate outside and the weather was perfect the service was very good and everyone was very nice. It was a special evening.
Wonderful experience! Thoroughly enjoyed our evening! Our waitress was punctual and pleasant. We started with their sourdough rye bread and homemade butter which was incredible! Then we enjoyed 3 different meals: whitefish roll & chips, chicken & dumplings and duck. All three were excellent! We all ordered their citrus cake with blueberry gelato for dessert. Heavenly dessert!!
Very charming place - excellent staff and service. A gem when your out exploring Northern Michigan!
Our meal was not only visually enticing, but the flavors and seasonings were perfection! I would highly recommend the Les Cheneaux Culinary School Restaurant to anyone. Our service was impeccable. Mary, our server, was knowledgeable, friendly and engaging, an absolute delight.
Such a wonderful night!
We went to the Culinary School for an Anniversary dinner. Loved the ambiance, service, and the food. It's a bit pricey, but for such a special occasion it was perfect. We had small plates salad and salmon sashimi and shared the salmon dinner. Excellent wine options and great food. We just weren't in the mood for bar food.
The seating location was perfect however the tent from the day earlier was not removed and the view was obstructed. Also the menu was restricted and we were not given prior notice to this. We were greatly disappointed.
Great food and warm atmosphere. It was a great experience.
My wife and I had a wonderful, relaxing and delicious dinne.
When we travel to Hessel by boat we always make sure we can get a reservation at Les Cheneaux Culinary School Restaurant first. Kudos to the student chefs who prepare not only tasty but beautifully presented dishes. Spencer, Cara, and Mary made our experience even better with their exeptional service. This was our third summer visit and we have not been disappointed. It's a highlight of our 3-week boat journey.
Chicken and dumplings were excellent despite my fears about the jalapeño in the dumplings. Tanner, the waiter, was correct in saying they were not spicy. My wife's choice of the chic pea stew was not good. She can usually handle mild spicy foods. There was nothing in the stew description about curry not did Tanner say anything about curry in the stew. Had that been known, the stew would not have been chosen as my wife's meal. She was unable to complete the meal. Much too much hot spice. Don't know if the recipe had been correct or not followed by the chef. It could have turned into a learning experience for both waiter and chef, had they offered to meet and discuss the situation with my wife. Very disappointing not to have had that opportunity. We normally seek out culinary schools for meals and have always had great experiences. Unfortunately, not so last night.
A wonderful dining experience! The food was fantastic and the menu had great variety. The staff was very friendly and welcoming.
Food and service was excellent. Our friends said it was the best smash burger they ever had. We always enjoy going there.
Food was amazing. It took some time to prepare but well worth the wait. Staff was friendly. View from the deck can’t be beat!
Always a great meal!
Excellent food and service! We started with salmon sashimi which was super fresh with a beautiful presentation and accompaniments. We followed with chicken and dumplings - haute take on an everyday staple. Also had the scallops, which were done with a South Asian twist including roti and rice. I didn’t want to leave a drop of sauce on the plate.
In an area full of natural beauty but otherwise devoid of fine dining experiences, the Culinary Institute shines as a local gem. My only suggestion would be to consider upgrading the table/chairs to match the luxe dining esthetic. Otherwise, wouldn’t change a thing!
We had the Wagu steak and it was amazing and bottle of Stag Leaps. Fantastic setting overlooking the bay.
Fresh, unique food in a beautiful setting. One of the wait staff is also a vocal performer and we were treated to a classical aria.
Competes with the very best in larger cities, and so glad we have here in the Les Cheneaux!
If you are within 150 miles of the Le Cheneaux Islands in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, you should add the Le Cheneaux Culinary School eating experience to your list of must-dos. The menu is creative and locally sourced, using only fresh ingredients. The excellent wine list and specialty cocktails put the dining experience over the top. This will be an annual visit for us!
The ambiance and food were excellent. The timeliness of our drinks and food was poor. I appreciate that it is a culinary teaching school but the wait for drinks and food was too long. They could do a better job of coordinating table reservations so the bar and kitchen staff could better get orders out.
We are on a 6 week boat trip. Best dinner we have had. The chef talked to us about how our dinners were prepared and the recipes. Excellent restaurant.
Wow the food is amazing! The service was outstanding. We will definitely be back if we are ever in the area again. We tried the a few small plates and a couple mains...all were fantastic!
Excellent food and wine. Device was very good, but food took quite a long time. Overall, a good experience.
Very good time. Friendly staff, great drinks and we even had the chance to listen to our server sing. It was awesome.
We have loved being there many times.
Fun place to dine if your in the area. Food and service were outstanding
It was great! Got there when it opened for brunch and had an outside table. The view was great, the staff was friendly and the food did not disappoint. I will be back next time I’m in the area!
