About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Good for groups
  • Charming
Bienvenue. Les Bubbles is a Parisian steakhouse on the corner of Wickham and Little Street in Fortitude Valley, forged in the very same building that housed the notorious illegal casino, bath-house and brothel at the centre of the Fitzgerald Inquiry. While the card decks and kerb servers are all but gone, the building’s colourful history remains pinned to every wall. Steak frites – known by many as the national dish of France – is the centrepiece of our menu. We sear the steak to your liking, before serving it with bread, salad, plenty of sauce and bottomless frites. Les Bubbles welcomes all, and as such, both vegetarian and pescatarian eaters will feel right at home. For any curious individuals, a change of scenery is available by wandering down a single flight of stairs. It’s there that you will find the Bath-House, featuring a full bar, banquet seating and a open-aired deck to enjoy a pre or post dinner cocktail!

Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
Les Bubbles Bar and Bistro offers an inviting atmosphere with standout features like "fantastic steak frites" and "fabulous cocktails." The "service was excellent" and the "food was delicious." While the ambience is charming, it's noted to get uncomfortably hot. An upgrade to premium steak is recommended for the best experience.

Shocking experience!! Made a reservation for 7pm, arrived at 6:55pm, told it would be a couple of minutes wait but didn’t sit down at the table until 7:30pm! They don’t seem to understand the point of reservations. Had told them in the reservation that it was my partners birthday, so you would think they would have a nice table for us, but no, they tried to sit us on a tiny table that was squashed in the middle of the restaurant at the till and the pass! I refused it and said I’d like a different table please (the couple that took the table had someone else’s food bashed into their head by a waitress and they moved!). Didn’t want to cause any scenes so sat at our new table and tried to move on from it, despite wanting to walk out. We ask the waitress for two cocktails and she says hesitantly they might not be doing cocktails, she goes off to check and comes back and says no sorry not tonight - I point out the table across from me which had just received 2 cocktails and she said I’m sorry, it’s a mess, it’s a mess! We walked out, as that was the final straw. The food looked nice, but the service and the experience was an absolute disgrace. They seem understaffed but they have far too many tables to cope with demand. There’s no hustle or sense of urgency from anyone working there, the manager, I don’t know if they exist. As a local, I’ve always wanted to dine here, now I’ll have PTS every time I see that bloody neon sign.

Overall, an ok dining experience but the service was fairly lacking from what we found. A very long wait for drinks and food to arrive, and when it did arrive one of the orders was wrong. We requested to upgrade one steak to the Angus beef which did not arrive. The staff advised that they could cook the correct steak but there would likely be a sizeable wait and encouraged us to take the steak that’d been cooked. When you only have 2 items on your menu, you really don’t have an excuse for getting the order wrong… We had to wait almost 5 minutes for the sauces to arrive with our meals, which again, is pretty inexcusable when you literally only have the one menu item - steak. Ordering drinks, I asked what whiskeys were on offer, to which I was offered only Jim Beam or Jack Daniel’s, and had to leave my table and walk up to the bar to check which bottles were on the shelf myself. Again, pretty lacklustre service.

Food was great, get the bone marrow and melt it over your chips, and absolutely enjoy all the sauces - the Cafe de Paris is a delicious, mild curry sauce. Steaks have a great char.

Glasses and plates stuck to table (Unsure if it was the paint on the tables), rips in the upholstery on the booth chairs. Unable to order a small petite version even with card stating medical reasons, understandable if they didn't have a petite menu but they do and limit it to under 12s, but that's ok, would just be nice if it was considered. Service was great, couldn't fault the service.

Traditionally, every time we have dined here the service and food has been amazing. Unfortunately this time was well below the standard that we are use to. We made an 8pm booking which said it should allow for 1.5 hours. Our table wasn’t ready on arrival, there were extended times to even get water delivered to the table. All the steaks were under cooked and rubbery, we even had one member of the table who requested the premium steak…he asked for medium rare and it was closer to blue/rare. This seemed like the mains were rushed as we were told 45 minutes into our booking that the kitchen was closing. If the kitchen closes sooner than you allow for on bookings, there needs to be a change in booking times. We hope that there is better attention to service and food if we return again.

This is hard! The food is great, the wine list is impeccable (when it's available), however the service and ambience is terrible. I booked for an anniversary dinner, I was asked to put the occasion in the booking and yet despite a relatively empty restaurant you sat us down near the toilet next to a family. Why???? It's also very hot in the restaurant, I'm guessing owing to the open kitchen but it's actually very uncomfortable. Your wait staff are obviously untrained, and the music was honestly the worst. Why am I eating a beautiful steak dinner on a romantic occasion listening to bon jovi, Aerosmith and guns n roses? Again, good and drink is fab (seriously the salad is the best), prices are agreeable. But it's not a place for a date or to celebrate a special occasion. Devo the bike marrow was cooked with a blow torch rather than on the grill.
