Legal Test Kitchen (LTK) Ratings and Reviews
I don’t usually leave reviews, but the food and experience was just bad. One person in our party had a shellfish allergy and the staff tried to be as accommodating as they could, but there weren’t many options that would work for her. Do not order the paella.
Very disappointing. The scallops were over cooked and rubbery, nothing like the fresh scallops that we expected. Even though swordfish kabobs are a regular menu item, they could not be added to a salad since they were not one of the “allowed” add-ins. The waiter had to be asked several times to bring the bread and was unfriendly until he brought the check and then was Mr. Congeniality hoping for a good tip. We have been there several times before and it was much better both food and service wise so that made this trip even more disappointing. Do not plan to return.
We arrived and the host was sitting at the bar. I asked aloud if we just seat ourselves and then he came over to seat us, which seemed to annoy him. The restaurant was relatively empty for a Saturday night. Only 2 other tables were full.
There were 4 of us in our party. We asked the waiter a few questions about the drink menu and he was visibly annoyed and told us they couldn't make anything that wasn't exactly as it was on the menu. Continued to ask the waiter more questions about the menu and he walked away from the table.
Once he finally returned, we ordered cocktails and appetizers. The pretzel and lettuce wraps were good- one person at our table has a shellfish allergy and we were told she couldn't eat any of those.
I ordered the Wok Seared XO Lobster & Shrimp. The waiter said it was spicy. It was not. Generally it lacked flavor and was more like greasy Chinese food. The waiter came around to ask if we wanted another round of drinks. I said yes and grabbed the menu to make sure I used the appropriate name, but by the time I looked up, he had already walked away. He came back 5 minutes later and I ordered my second drink, 'Tito in a Speedo'. The ice was overflowing out of the glass and there was barely any drink. When I mentioned this to the waiter, he said, 'I'll go get my manager' and walked away. The manager arrived and informed me that's how the drinks are made and there was nothing he could do about it. Then he walked away. No apology, no discussion, complete dismissal of my opinion. I would think the manager of an empty restaurant would want to ensure that his customers were happy and enjoying their food and beverages in his restaurant. Instead, this manager didn't care that his customers weren't happy. He didn't care that we were customers period. I dine out a lot and have never had an experience quite like this. Will not be returning.
Loved visiting LTK! The mac and cheese was amazing and the clam chowder was spot on. I would definitely be back for happy hour and to try other things on the menu. It was slightly loud but to me, that's a sign of folks having a great time, which we definitely did.
Wonderful surprise! Didn't realize the Test kitchen Legal Seafood had a different menu from a regular Legal Seafood but after arriving we decided to stay and try it out. Very happy we did! So much more creative and different than eating from the regular menu we are used to at Legal Seafood. We ate on the outside enclosed patio - so much quieter than the main room which we liked. Started with the calamari with hot peppers which was lightly breaded and very tender. My Tuna Tempura was delicious and my husband's seafood platter was just a as good. Had a pear sangria cocktail that was also refreshingly different. And best of all our server Althea was a delight and spot on with service. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area and we look forward to going back.
Chowder was great as always. My wife's Fish & Chips was more like fried cardboard. My Paella was too dry to eat and the sea food too rubbery to eat. Server tried her best to make it right, but you can't fix poorly prepared food and disinterested management.
Legal Test Kitchen failed twice.
Stopped by here with friends for dinner and a relaxed conversation and we were well taken care of. The food, seafood, was (and always is) fresh and delicious. I had the grilled rainbow trout which is always dependable and not too much food after the cup of chowder and a shared salad. The view isn't as grand as the full sized Legal Seafood across the street overlooking the harbour, but aside from that they don't miss a beat.
my husband raved it was the best shrimp he ever had. Delicious clam chowder. I had the etoufee and it was wonderful. Just the right amount of spicy. We brought our 2 kids (2 and 6 months) and the music was just loud enough to drown out any fussing they did. Over all a wonderful dinner!
The famous Clam Chowder, as always, was to die for! It didn't disappoint. The cuisine was of a very high quality including the non- traditional menu items. The bananas foster dessert was excellent. The lunch time service was efficient and a nice touch was the server asking if we were in a hurry. Unfortunately, the server did serve the water glasses by holding each of them placing his fingers on the lips of the glasses that touch a customer's lips. Not sanitary. Overall, the four of us were quite satisfied with our experience at LTK.
Three sisters in Boston for work and fun...super easy dinner very value-priced. Seafood was great: the cod with herbed goat cheese remarkable, the swordfish kebobs perfection. The only disappointment was the lettuce wrap: ok, just not up to the other standard. Great service plus Sonoma Cutrer chard by the glass. Fun and delicious evening!
We were pleasantly surprised at how much we enjoyed our first visit to LTK. The staff from the hostesses to waiter to bus staff and mgr. were so friendly and pleasant. Our waiter Mike took excellent care of us. The baja fish tacos were great but we especially enjoyed the crab cake combo plate with shrimp and scallops. So delicious. Will definitely return again soon.
I always enjoy going to LTK . The staff are very friendly and the service is always excellent. The drinks are very good...even the standard drinks are well done. The food ranges from excellent to average. It is a test kitchen, after all. For me this is part of the fun. That being said, I had a Paella that was substandard. When I gave them my honest feedback they were kind enough to remove it from the bill. I will be returning again. Thanks LTK.
Food is good as always. The chowder is bomb, fish n chips are great not too greasy just perfect and always has interesting dinner combos...salmon pad Thai (yum). Our waitress was exceptional and made out night she knew we were in a rush to get to a concert so kept things moving but so attentive and pleasant (thx christina), always makes the dining experience better when you had a great server!!
My go-to restaurant in the Seaport area! Not as pricey as it's flagship waterfront namesake across the street, the vibe is also hipper and the menu less conservative. You can still get the clam chowder, though. Have it with the shrimp scampi flat bread and the Harpon IPA, available in draft. Service so friendly, I had to remind myself it was Boston!
