Legal Sea Foods - Tysons Corner Ratings and Reviews
The hostess was great, arrived early while waiting for my date I sat upstairs bar, Very nice bartender was good, sat at dinner booth downstairs. Server was great, good beer (had Dogfish 60 mile) Apps and dinner Great..Very good Value for Valentines Night dinner.
The lobster was great. The coconut shrimp not so much. There was an odd powdery texture that we thought at first was raw batter, but may have been curry powder? Not one of the better coconut shrimp dishes we've had, and my husband LOVES coconut shrimp. I asked for dressing on the side for my salad and, of course, it was not.
They seated us at an inside booth, and we were glad we had a comfortable table. After a bit, I realized the other side of the wall, a thin wall with glass for the upper half, was the kitchen or dish washing area? It was loud and I could hear them arguing. Not great for an early Valentines Day dinner - or any dinner for that matter.
The cioppino was especially good this time. The first time we had it, the clams were a little tough. the second time, the lobster was overcooked and dry. But this time, the lobster was cooked just right and all the seafood tasted fresh and cooked just right! Thank you! and a big thank you to Jackie who remembers exactly what we like and is especially friendly to my son with autism! The other servers are also very friendly, though Jackie is the only one we know by name.
We both had soup and salad and it was quite good...highly recommend the soups. Wine was ordered and we were both disappointed in the quality of the wine. Our server was wonderful and was able to replace the wines with ones that were far more drinkable. We were both so impressed with his professionalism and warmth. Legal Seafoods is always dependable in their willingness to please...we will be back.
Was glad to hear that Legal's will remain open for another year. When we were last in the restaurant, we were told that the restaurant was suppose to close in mid December??
So happy the plan is now continue operating at present site for at least a year. We happily look forward to next fish dinner at Legal's.
We went to Legal for a "Birthday Dinner." It was okay but not remarkable, especially given the prices. I think the menu and quality of the food has gone down during the past few years. The restaurant is living off its reputation, not the variety and quality of it's seafood. The service was good, but the dining room was only so so, and we had to ask to be seated out of a main (and loud) corridor area. Given that the Tysons area has many food choices, I'm surprised Legal isn't making more of an effort to stay competitive. I probably would opt for McCormick and Schmick's next time.
Our server was great. She accommodated all our requests. Food was served quickly. Only downside is I got an email from Open Table that we never showed up for our reservation. Not sure what was the disconnect with us checking in at hostess desk and communication with Open Table that we honored our reservation.
Decent. First visit. Food was ok. Appetizer was amazing, scallops tempura with a spicy sauce and green beans. The salad was very good but was a very vinegar based dressing (they did not list the dressing type), I enjoyed it but some would not like it AT ALL. I order the chefs assortment, 3 fish pieces, scallops and shrimp. It was tuna, swordfish and salmon for the fishes. The fish was EXTREMELY over cooked. The scallops were very good and perfectly cooked. The shrimp were large but also very over cooked. Meal size was good for the price but overall, a disappointing meal. The waiter was very friendly and made a lot of suggestions, however, never once asked about how the meal was, quality, if it was cooked well or anything with only one other table in his entire section sat. Almost an empty restaurant (less about 10 tables occupied).
In days of yore, this restaurant could have been my "cafeteria", having worked a short five minute walk from the Legal entrance. I easily ate there three-to-four times a week. Now, a special trip down memory lane -- as well as courage to brave Tysons Corner traffic -- is needed to get to this location. Aside from trying to sate a bad case of nostalgia, I'm not sure I would return.
From the moment I walked in, the curiously acting gentleman at the host stand, who looked like he was eating, held up an index finger, barely made eye contact with me, then grabbed a menu and started walking. I actually thought he was asking me to, "Wait one moment. You caught me mid-bite from my surreptitious snack." Instead, he was apparently asking me if only "one" would be dining.
When I looked confused and didn't follow, only then did he actually decide to ask me if I needed anything. By the way, I had an Open Table reservation.
Has Legal Sea Food changed so much in the past few years? If nothing else, the food would be great, right? Sadly, it wasn't even close. Before: the lunch time jambalaya was a welcome cause for a food coma; this time, I barely could eat a quarter of the lukewarm, flavorless gruel that was dished up. The rolls, which were normally piping hot and soft to the touch, had the consistency of day-old bread that was briefly microwaved and then hastily thrown into the oven. I can't speak for my dining colleague, but she didn't bother to finish her food either.
In spite of all this, our waitress was fantastic. She was attentive, experienced, and competent. But, I chose Legal as a comfortable setting to talk about important matters, not channel my inner Anthony Bourdain. Had it been a casual affair, I would have summoned the manager, expressed my discontent, and ordered a burger. To go.
Many things change, but I was hoping Legal wouldn't be one of them. I was, unfortunately, wrong.
There is no one to seat/guide guests on the upper floor entrance; the hostess on the lowere floor was very indifferent and unwelcoming. Despite the restaurant being virtually empty, the service was bad and indifferent. Many wines and items in the menu were unavailable. I cannot understand not accept a restaurant that says they’ve run out of milk to serve with the coffee!! The “fish & chips” smelled and tasted “fishy”.
