Legal Sea Foods - Short Hills Ratings and Reviews
We had a get together of friends who hadn't seen each other in four decades. The food as usual was outstanding. The service was very good as well. The waitress realizing that we were catching up on decades made no effort to rush us and let us enjoy a great leisurely dinner.
First time for lunch very disappointing ordered a very blah $29 lobster roll. Came with typical frozen french fries and so so coleslaw. Expected a little more from this chain restaurant probably should stick with the chowder. Service was also very slow considering the lunch crowd was pretty much gone ...
Cannot say enough about the food, and it has been that way since this Legal Sea Foods opened which is now a long time ago.
Depending on where you are seated, you can have quiet private conversations . However, there are places where you might be able to have the quiet conversation but it would not be private because you are seated too close to another table.
Consistently good food! I've been to several Legal SF operations, from the flagship store in Boston to the Wash DC operations, & many between. The seafood is cocsistantly good-above average, sometimes great. The fried whole belly clam platter was excellent. Tender, sweet & juicy fried clams paired with a nice house rose wine.... Delicious. You can't go wrong here.
The fish is very fresh. Delightfully so.
Unfortunately, they could not accommodate my bland (no pepper) diet. They could give me a piece of fish without the nice sauces and sides. As usual, I could have plain fish, plain rice and plain spinach. Through the whole meal they came back to ask if the meal was ok. Even if I said yes, they (manager and waiter) kept coming back. They were very annoying.
You can only eat happy hour appetizers at the bar if you want to pay half price. If you go to the bar for appetizers you will loose your table for dinner and have to eat your dinner at the bar or wait until there is a free table again.
We were disappointed with the lobster entre that was supposed 1 1/4 pounds. It was even half that. Sadly the new arngland clam Chowder was no match for Cape Cod versions at Captain Parker’s and Brax!
Our displeasure was compensated by the Manager and was appreciated!
I arrived at LS for a late lunch around 3 pm. There was no trouble finding a booth. The meal started with fried Buffalo-style oysters. I had the swordfish served on a bed of mashed yams and sauteed kale. I did not care for the granny smith and cranberry chutney but since it was served on the side, it did not detract from the dish. I really enjoyed the entree and sides. The apple tart with struesel topping made a flavorful dessert. Have it with the JCB sparkling wine. My guest enjoyed her salmon with a hummus garnish and pita chips.
The noise level was moderate and the waitstaff was friendly.
