Legal Sea Foods - Short Hills Ratings and Reviews
I always get grilled halibut...so glad it now regular menu item. It just does not get any better at any price. The Mrs and daughter got lobster Thermidor special. Excellent. Daughter’s SO ordered grilled swordfish with red onion relish. Great choice.
Legal seafood reminds us of visit to CIA in Hyde Park, NY.
High quality. High value. We appreciate LSF is close to us.
I wish there were more Legal Seafood restaurants around in NJ. Being originally from New England this is the best place in NJ to get seafood. Even the fried clams are the whole clams. Unlike most seafood restaurants in NJ where you get a clam strip. Legal has the Best Steamers, not to mention EVERYTHING else on the menu.
What started as a wonderful evening slowly became a terrible memory and I am still trying to figure out what happened. Our waiter began as a wonderful, attentive, super friendly guy. But by the end of the evening he was basically ignoring us. I wish I knew why...
The food was decent - crab cakes are amazing. But should we go back we will probably sit at the bar and have appetizers.
I’ve been to this location 6 times over the past 2 years. Have never had a great experience just o.k. Yesterday’s visit was the worst. From having made dinner reservations earlier in the day, only to be seated near the exit door, in the back room ( like not being in the restaurant at all.) to having a server that took too long to put our order in. He actually took the order for two nearby tables that were seated after us and their food came out well in advance of ours. We ordered two of the most expensive dishes on the menu- crab cake combo. Crab cake coating was hard, looked like an over cooked biscuit. And scallops/ shrimp were pathetic in presentation as well. Manger was accommodating and had meals redone but even the replacement dishes lacked in the quality and presentation expected and experienced at other Legal locations. Won’t be back.
We arrived at the restaurant and were pleased that they honored our request for a round table. Since the restaurant can be loud, we often make the request so my father can hear the conversation. Our server was attentive, and took our appetizer orders while we waited for the last member of our party to arrive. Our food was prepared as ordered, except for one person who ordered mahi mahi but got rainbow trout. We didn't point this out to the server since he was okay with the rainbow trout, and the bill reflected the correct item. All in all, it was a nice meal in a convenient location.
From the first greeting when we arrived Legal Seafood more than makes you feel welcome...The service was outstanding..The food fantastic..Crab cakes,,Onion soup, stuffed shrimp and a whole lobster with sweet corn on the cob,,The waitress, Jessica, even removed the entire shell,,,dessert was their daily dessert special,,even the coffee was perfect....Highly recommend..
While usually a big fan of this Legal Sea Foods, on this particular evening the service was very poor - returned off-tasting martinis twice and had to remind the waitress on a number of occasions to go look for our soup, then our entrees and then our side dishes.
This is a good restaurant usually, but poor service on this particular evening - and it was even quiet when we got there, so no real excuse.
Our first time to this particular Legal Seafood. Had a reservation....crazy busy...Saturday night at the mall....but only had to wait 10 minutes...had a nice booth table by the window. Our waiter Chris was fabulous. He was very knowledgeable and guided us in the right direction.
My experience was really positive here. The service was very good, as was the food. Considering the location and meals (starters, drinks, entrees, and dessert), I the thought price was very reasonable. I'd definitely recommend it for people who enjoy seafood.
I ordered the Shrimp Casserole with the Jasmine Rice. The rice was sticky, the casserole was over cooked, stuck to the pan, and extremely dry. I was at the Short Hills location with my husband for date night, had been wanting to there for a while...wanted some real seafood, not the Red Lobster stuff.
Unfortunately, my food was horrible, I actually missed the Red Lobster stuff, and had at $90+ bill to pay for terrible food. I will NEVER go there again! I guess I will have to go to the shore to get good seafood.
Another bad lunch, this will be my final meal here. It has become such poor quality. I always get the Crispy Fish Sandwich. The fish was not crispy and cold. They remade it for me which was better but this seems to always happen. I even had to stop getting fries because they tasted like cardboard. I will never patronize this establishment again!
A little break from the exhausting routine...lunch was great. We had fun. The Mrs had tuna burger...was really good but portion a bit much for her (but she rose to the occasion). The spiced crusted tuna is an option for rare grilled tuna on the lunch menu...perfect! Service quite excellent today. Recommend.
You know what you get when you come to LSF. No matter what LFS you take food is always good and quality same. I have found that service varies in places. Here it is always somehow slow even waitresses running all the time. About the food, lobsters are always good choice and you cannot choose wrong from catch from the day list.
Restaurant is beginning to look a little old and dark. Steamers were wonderful. Reduced fat chowder was stocked with fish and potaotoes but could use alittle more favor. Sangria was very good. Lunch was very nice but honestly the value was not there. I go out all the time for lunch oftern in the city at great restaurants. This restaurant in a mall was overpriced. Had soup, shared steamers, small wedge salad and a glass of sangrai and came out to over $50. I go out almost everyday, that is too much for what we had.
I am sure I will be back because it is a convenient location . I think they should consider a lunch price fix like $36 .
The only thing good was our waitress. Too bad she had to serve such poor food. The hostess in charge was rude. She ignored our reservation and seated others with reservation times after ours. One of the waiters had a Rastafarian hair do down to the middle of his back. New Years Eve was very disappointing.
This is our, "Go to" restaurant when we are in the mood for great seafood. Great atmosphere, great service, great food! Fantastic bar drinks and specialty cocktails. Like their watermelon martini! Awesome oysters and there is normally a choice of several varieties. They are perfectly shucked and delicious and fresh. Served on ice with cocktail sauce and horseradish. I can easily suck down a dozen before my meal. For that I always go for the 1.5 lb steamed lobster. For my two sides I usually get the mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli. Rarely have room for dessert so I usually end things with a fresh cup of espresso. Perfection from start to finish!
LSF is pretty consistent. Grill menu is always a sure thing. The Mrs had the seafood puttanesca special ... homemade pasta was excellent. I had grilled halibut (as usual). It takes know-how to prepare it so well. I looked at fresh halibut in the grocery store and concluded the LSF price is reasonable.
We agree that LSF reminds us of visit to CIA in Hyde Park last year.
