Both meals fish were overcooked and dry. I would expect better quality for the price.
Eric was our waiter and he's super nice and efficient!
This is a Short Hills go to. Glad they are open, since Garden State closed. Been making reservations for lunch since the re-opening. Food still very good, but has gotten pricey. Lunch runs us $50 pp plus tax & tip. Worth it for us, but may explain why not packed. Seating after renovation became strange, with one end all big party booths. Going to keep going so we don't loose this place. Staff still great1
Awesome! LSF reminds us of dinner at the CIA in Hyde Park. Forget fast food. Skip it entirely and save up for a celebration…LSF a good bet. Lunch menu. They have certain regular items — we groove on grilled menu. This time salmon and tuna, we always request rare — but they change the accompaniments seasonally. The tuna came with blistered green beans. The Mrs had salmon with nut crust. I can’t critique everything on the menu. If LSF is ever less than perfect this was not such an occasion. It does not get better at any price.
Walked in at 4pm no hostess for 10 min, a waitress goes by tried to get her attention, ignored.
The lobster bisque was 12 dollars and there was hardly 3 small pieces of lobster.
Asked for a cocktail with a salt rim, got one with no salt.
Next visit will be to Ruth steak house next door that serve both fish and steak☹️
The food is always reliable but service was really sloppy despite the fact that the restaurant was mostly empty. The server forgot drinks, brought the plates out at different times. We were a little bewildered since this is not usual but have to give this experience a lower grade as a result.
Remodeled. Service a bit slow. No water refills. Bar service slow.
Food average. Was there for birthday, noted on reservations. No acknowledgement.
Server was really nice and very accommodating!!
Waitress was awesome. Hostess very gracious. Food was perfect.
Service was great! Very flexible with a special request. The place has been through renovations. Unfortunately it has lost the cool vibe it once had. Seafood is still top notch
Good times and great service which is so hard to find these days. I asked if I could go off-menu on an item and was immediately told that would NOT be a problem.
Great place , very nice staff, service was outstanding.
Food was at expectation
Loved it. Lunch. I had Caesar salad with grilled salmon (rare). PERFECT. The Caesar dressing is lighter than traditional, a lot of lemon … excellent. Mrs. had crab cake, substitute asparagus for the rice. Unimprovable. Cappucinos for dessert.
Quick service at a reasonably full restaurant, with a pleasant and helpful waitress.
Delicious fresh seafood with good service. Recommended
terrific venue and meal
server was excellent and extraordinarily personable
My only complaint was that the restaurant was extremely cold.
We had not had anything all day and decided on LSF fir salads with grilled fish. It could not have been more perfect. There’s genius at the grill station.
We love Legal Seafood for our special occasions. The staff were great, the food spectacular, and our evening was terrific. Thanks.
Have eaten there a couple of times in last month. Crab cakes excellent. Rice dry. Portions are bigger that are fried. Decor and ambience excellent as are drinks but I don't feel good is as good as before Covid.
Food lacks flavor and is probably just one step above red lobster.
LSF has resumed specials after post lockdown re-boot. We intended to have just a salad but I ordered the salad and the Mrs. ordered the irresistible halibut special and we shared. As was true the in the past the specials are always amazing. It was truly memorable.
The waiter messed up the order for my crab cake entree and another person bought an appetizer instead of a meal. They kept me waiting for at least 15 minutes before the waiter came back even though I told the other person that I ordered the meal. After another wait, the waiter came back with a small plate of rice. By then the crab cake was cold! Won’t go there again.
Our waiter was great! He made sure our food was done correctly, very attentive
The food was good and the service excellent.
Love renovations. Food excellent. Service outstanding.
It was our 23rd wedding anniversary and we drove over an hour away just for the baked stuffed lobster. To my surprise to find out that it was not good at all. I noticed huge chunks of onion and peppers and the lack of the buttery ritz cracker filling, which in my opinion is what makes this dish memorable. Huge disappointment. The Server did state that you have a new Chef and that is the way he makes it now. Well I’m sad to say that we won’t be back because that’s the only reason I go. It’s such a shame because I often frequented this establishment.
Waiter was friendly and knew his stuff about the food. He was great
It was mediocre at best!
$65 for market price lobster, that is a ridiculous upcharge
Food was ok after receiving the correct order. My wife is gluten free, and her food was served with bread on the plate. It was returned to the kitchen, 20 minutes later she received. I had substituted rice for broccoli, but received the rice. Asked to have them hold my food hot until my wife received hers, but they said her food would be right out. Ended up eating my food, then waiting for my wife to receive and have her meal. The server apologized and said when it is "slow" the kitchen sometimes makes mistakes. I would think that mistakes would happen when the kitchen was very busy. Waitress said said there is a new owner. I checked and saw that in 2020 Legal has been sold to PPX hospitality. Not the same good legal seafood experience I was used to, or expecting.
The ambience/decor is cold and uninviting. It’s drab and austere. The food was good but I think the French fries were from frozen fries. I like the shrimp and chowder. They used to have a fabulous banana’s foster dessert but no more. There are many TV’s over the bar which makes it more of a guy’s place. I was so disappointed as I live in the area. I loved the old bar which was darker and more intimate. It almost has a cafeteria feeling now.
They served my entree to me 5 minutes after I had received my appetizer. So, they offered to take it back and make a fresh one. However, they didn’t make a fresh one. They put it under a heat lamp in the kitchen. When I was done eating my fried calamari, the server asked if it was time to start making the scallops I had ordered for an entree. Then they served my entree again. Except that I could tell that it wasn’t fresh - the scallops were oily, dense and chewy - almost inedible. Don’t trust this restaurant.
As a customer of Legal's since the mid 1980's, I've always enjoyed the menu options. The latest menu update, however, is quite limited and missing one of my favorites (the Jasmine Special). Nevertheless, during my meal yesterday, I decided to try something new, the Fried Shrimp plate. Unfortunately, there was a small bit of plastic in my coleslaw and the fried shrimp lacked flavor (needed salt). As I reflected on yesterday's experience I feel that the variety and uniqueness of Legal's that I enjoyed over the decades are gone. It has become just another mall seafood chain. The food is okay but nothing wonderful, as it was in the past.
Excellent dining experience. Food and service could not have been better.
Not recommended. Over priced, portions filled with fries to make the plate full, Calamari filled with hot peppers small portion of fish.
Sangria was delicious.
Been craving this go to standby in Short Hills Mall. Tried to go a few weeks ago for lunch, but they were fully committed at 3pm. Made a reservation for yesterday. Food still above average, even though Caesar was soggy. Looked for old staff, but new crew is competent. Prices have gone way up, beware Market Price more than ever. We understand the times and Modification of capacity. We will continue to support this place so we don't lose it (like Garden State Plaza).
I know the renovation was needed, but something was lost as far as ambience. Bigger bar is great for in and out quick lunch. Not sure large tables in front make sense. 4 tops that can be combined seem better option.
I visited this place many times for group activities before the pandemic. My impression was very good in terms of foods and service. Some attention should be paid to certain details, e.g. say goodbye or see you next time to the diners when they leave, and throw away the paper bag for leftover to take home once it is dropped to the floor.
I’ve always loved legal seafood. But the new menu is limited and underwhelming. I found it a challenge to pick an entree. I used to love the macadamia encrusted salmon and the trout. Neither of which are on the new menu. The drinks were excellent as were the appetizers but disappointed in the overall renovations.
We are long time lovers of Legal Sea Food. Sadly that love seems lost. Server not wearing mask properly and food quality was a shadow of our many past, positive experiences. Portion sizes seem to have decreased, atmosphere of the revamped Short Hills was a shadow of the past environment. New owners? Due to Covid? We don't know but it is unlikely that we will find out as we were super disappointed.
