Legal Sea Foods - Short Hills
Our restaurant is located inside The Mall at Short Hills on the lower level. You may choose to beach yourself in our dining room or at our bar. Either way, we’ll think you walk on water - be sure to see our aquarium of koi fish built into the floor.
Legal Sea Foods has long proven that a consistent, high quality dining experience never goes out of style. With over 40 varieties of fresh fish and shellfish available throughout the year as well as an award-winning wine list, there’s no doubt why legions of fans have fallen hook, line and sinker.
We’ve received a boatload of accolades including being named “#1 Best Seafood Restaurant” in a nationwide poll by USA Today (2013) and the honor of serving our legendary New England Clam Chowder at every presidential inauguration since 1981.
Very good service and food. We had lunch there. My only suggestion is the lunch menu could have been little more selection of salads, fish. Lots of tacos and fried food which I don’t like The ice cream bons bons were delicious.
First time since the renovation. Booth seating is uncomfortable, fried food isn't as crisp as it used to be. Menu hasn't changed in the past few years, not sure when we'll be back.
We had lunch here. Food was good, but seems to have gone down a level from what it used to be. Waitstaff was overwhelmed. Portion sizes also seem to have shrunk along with quality. Would have to think twice before coming back.
Beautiful renovation. Nice big bar. Comfy seats. Pretty layout. Same great food. Slight increase in prices.
Do not like the new menu. Feels like a fast food place, not fine dining. Getting rid of the changing oyster menu saves money but is a lousy idea. I don’t want someone hovering over me, telling me the oyster selection, which the waiter has little familiarity with, and then waiting for my selection. Won’t work for me. We usually order 18-24 oysters for an appetizer. Only ordered a dozen because of the presentation. If it continues, we won’t be back. Also advised the manager of this.
Poor service, salad was so overdressed it had to be sent back. When a new salad arrived, it was missing one of the ingredients. It was boring and tasteless.
Entrees were expensive for what they were. Sticky brown rice, poorly cooked vegetables and scallops that were almost $35 and tasteless.
This restaurant has been recently renovated and has unfortunately lost its character. The food remains good but the service is indifferent with the staff being minimally hospitable. What was a rather pleasant Seafood restaurant has turned into a colorless Sports Bar and dining room . Unfortunately the Legal Seafood brand is not helped in any way by this facility
Everything was very nice. The food was good and so was the service. No complaints
Food was mediocre and expensive
Menu selections drastically reduced
Was my favorite seafood restaurant- not going back
Not crazy about the renovations. Our table was in the back & very dark
Also, the booths move, not a great design.
Many people are accompanied by kids/family. This is a shopping mall. Why would you think to have a large bar in the center of the restaurant?! More tables would have been a better design.
Because we enjoy the food we will return.
Absolutely Terrible, we’ve been patrons since originally opened more than 20 year ago. Tonight was awful.
LOVE THE NEW RENOVATIONS, EVERYTHING WAS CLEAN, SERVICE WAS GREAT AND THE MOST IMPORTANT - THE FOOD WERE DELICIOUS!!!!!
Legal has always been one of my favorite restaurant’s, We were very disappointed with food not good at all, I actually had to send my food back..
The food was good, but the temperature in the restaurant was freezing! It felt as though fans were blowing cold air on us. Seems like they didn't plan when renovating the restaurant. When we told the waitress, she said she would tell the manager.
Always enjoy eating here. It was nice to see the newly renovated dining area. Both the food and service were excellent.
I’ve dined here many, many times over the years. Always a favorite! The newly renovated space is just beautiful! The bar is amazing. Freshest oysters and best lobster roll, bar none. If I had one bit of advice for the restaurant, it would be to please, please turn the news off the television sets. If TV’s must be on, then I would recommend just leaving a sports channel on. Having to watch the news beating down from you above the bar is not the best way to relax and enjoy a meal out.
Love bloody marys. They had no mix and couldn’t make one. Wife ordered a drink, for whatever reason, they couldn’t make that drink either. Waiter was jittery, odd. Newly renovated, but felt like we were in a cave with dim lighting, had to use phone flashlight to see menu. Food is very good, expensive. Won’t be going back.
Sadly, the updated decor makes this place more of a bar than a restaurant. It was much nicer when it was a restaurant. The bar now takes up almost the entire layout and the seating is not suitable for large parties. The food was good as always and the service truly exceptional.
First time back since it reopened, need to get use to the new decor but the food as always, was great !
Never disappointed with our meals there ...... the best trout in town !!
Go for GF it’s always good. Tonight’s meal was a little cold. Was a little bummed but still good. Service is always spot on here.
We always can depend upon Legal Seafood's meal to be consistently delicious. the combo meal of lump crab meat, grilled scallops, and grilled shrimp, was cooked the way I had anticipated. I could not have cooked it better myself. Perfectly accompanied by a small salad in the dish. the atmosphere was more casual since the renovation. Not bad. Very clean and no fishy clothing smell when I came home! Excellent pricing too. Absolutely returning very soon.
Really nice after a complete renovation. Food is awesome and the service is great.
Not a significant difference from prior to renovation ok for a routine place to go.
great lunch. we had oysters and the smoked salmon avocado toast! delicious.
The food is really bad! Smelly, old fish. The mall is in a desperate need of a new restaurant!
Good service. We were there for otsterfest
Hostess may have received her client service training at the DMV. Grumpy, disinterested. The server was not very competent. Orders came out with wrong sides. Drinks took forever to show up. Generally bad service.
We had a delicious dinner and the waitress was attentive. We didn’t have to look for her she just appeared. When we arrived we were seated within five minutes because we had a reservation. They honored it, which was excellent.
I recommend this newly reopened restaurant with excellent people working there and the same good food.
New renovation has large central bar, but same great seafood, much of it can be had gluten-free.
Good service, good food, nicely renovated.
This location just reopened after renovations. Seems cramped. Cocktails were poor, plus they keep asking over & over if you want another. Fish cooked nicely but overpriced. Ladies' Room: big no-no- toilet paper dispenser was empty and refill roll was lying on the floor- yuck!!!
Felt rushed- we had to slow it down.
Love the new decor. Wish the menu had the wood plank Salmon and also choices of sides like it used to. I miss the Jasmine rice. Overall, very good and will return.
Food was just awful! Some items were overcooked, others undercooked and overall just poorly done... and management doesn’t particularly care. Also, portions have decreased significantly since they re-opened. Will not return.
The biggest disappointment was the terrible rolls. We looked forward to the crispy rolls of the past but they’ve been replaced. The white wine came to the table unchilled. This never happened in the past. It feels a little cold and too noisy after the renovation. It seems like quality control is slipping. Despite this the oysters were phenomenal. I hope they get there act together. We’ll be back but expect better.
Very good friendly service, particularly as a lone diner. Interior is very nicely done - classy
Food was a bit bland and the service was surprisingly slow
Service was just ok.
I have been coming to this place for years. They just finished a remodel and I was excited to experience it. It lost its Legal Seafood roots. You no longer get a feeling of a seafood restaurant. No more raw bar prep.area You have this gigantic bar island that is half the restaurant. No longer family friendly. Not inviting to parties of 7 or more. All that time and money spent but the men's bathroom was not touched. Not even a deep cleaning of tiles or scrubbing of floors.
Very disappointed. Once my goto place for family gatherings, is now a sports bar.
Btw- the biscuits are terrible now. Why mess with something that worked. Why go and change it?
The renovation is very nice. It has more of a “sports bar” feel now. The food was great as always. The service was attentive and pleasant.
New decor is pretty. Menu is not as good as it used to be. Mediocre service
