Legal Sea Foods - Peabody
Seafood Nation loves our outpost in Peabody, at the junction of Routes 128 and 114. Those traveling to and from the beaches in Cape Ann are known to jump ship for some fresh catch. And those considering a fishing trip, visit us instead.
Legal Sea Foods has long proven that a consistent, high quality dining experience never goes out of style. With over 40 varieties of fresh fish and shellfish available throughout the year as well as an award-winning wine list, there’s no doubt why legions of fans have fallen hook, line and sinker.
We’ve received a boatload of accolades including “#1 Best Seafood Restaurant” (USA Today, 2013), “Most Popular Boston Restaurant” (Zagat, 2012/2013), “Best Seafood Restaurant” (Improper Bostonian, 2010), “Best Chowder” (Boston Magazine, 2010) and the honor of serving our legendary New England Clam Chowder at every presidential inauguration since 1981.
We thought because of everything going on that was the reason why there were only about a dozen people there. HOWEVER the waitress, although nice, kept disappearing and it took forever to get our food (that included dessert), When it finally came it was almost burnt and dry. If I am going to spend over 30 dollars on a fried seafood platter I expect it to be edible. My husband got a fish and chips which was also overdone but the onion rings were good. The other person got a shrimp and garlic plate that was ok but not hot. Dessert of pudding cake was good but took 25 minutes to get and we were already done with our coffee. Disappointed enough that I probably will not be back.
Have already raved about our "LS" experience to friends. I had the delish grey sole entre which was prepped superbly. Our waiter was omnipresent and very efficient.
Legal for best quality seafood and great service. Went at lunch, ordered from the dinner menu. Cristy our server was great, food always great.
If you don't like seafood, this is not the place for you. You aren't able to join your seafood loving friends for dinner because there are no options for you. I ordered one of the two non-seafood dinners and it was only mediocre and had no visual appeal. Brown steak, brown potatoes and brown mushrooms. Not one splash of color. Not worth the money spent. We hoped for a special night out with some family and left feeling not so special!
Such a fun ambience and friendly professional service! Food was amazing! The manager was tentative of our needs!
Excellent food. Service was really good. Hopefully the parking will get better. Construction is going on in the parking lot & it’s a pain in the neck.
Good food, really slow service, pretty interior and decor
Arctic char was delightful. Swordfish cooked perfectly. Clams excellent.
I have gone to Legal Seafood regularly for 30+ years. This past weekend was my birthday and I went to Legal's in Chestnut Hill on Saturday for lunch where I had a great lunch but then went to Legal's in Peabody where just about everything (other than the food when we finally got it) was AWFUL. Unfortunately that has been our experience in Peabody much more often than not since the renovation a couple of years ago.
I had made a reservation in advance on Open Table and specified that we were celebrating a birthday (mine!). Though our waitress was very sweet the service was TERRIBLE. I thought that it might have been due to the kitchen being backed up but the fact that she didn't bring out the slice of birthday cake my husband had asked her for THREE TIMES until about 15 minutes after she brought out our coffee and tea suggested that the poor service was not just due to the kitchen.
In addition the restaurant was particularly cold and when my husband went to tell the manager he was told that he wasn't at the hostess desk and they didn't know where he was as he wasn't answering his page. It took quite a while until he came back during which I was sitting with my coat on. When the restaurant finally warmed up everything was more enjoyable.
In sum, I won't return to Legal's in Peabody in the near future. I hope by the time I do return, that particularly location will have figured it out as the FOOD really is good.
Excellent as always. Consistently good food and good service.
Excellent service and a very warm atmosphere. Was a very positive experience.
Valentine’s Day dinner. Delicious food and great service.
Appetizers were delicious, main meal was poor but good service . Waitress was great except forgot to offer us dessert. It was Valentine’s Day so never again. Everything was Rushed
Our waitress was fast and super sweet
Also food was GREAT
The updates at this location is a big improvement . Nice big bar! Service was great!
My partner and I both started off with a cup of New England clam chowder and it was perfect. Plenty of clams and the chowder was not to thick . My partner had lemon caper sauce on grey sole but she asked that she have no capers and they were very accommodating to her request. Her sides were jasmine rice and sautéed spinach . The portion was enough to feed two. She enjoyed her meal very much. I got the Fisherman’s platter and it was very good. Perfect amount of clams, shrimp, calamari, fish and fries. The batter was light and was not greasy. Usually fisherman’s platter is loaded with a lot of fries but not here , every item as evenly portioned. The coleslaw was really good. The service was great. We will be going back soon.
Excellent Food and Service.
food is delicious, and service is great, manager Bill and my waitress Rebecca were so friendly, made me feel very welcomed.
Food was FABULOUS!! Fresh and delicious! We had a sweet and attentive server and a round table which we requested. The restaurant is beautiful. We will be back!
We were celebrating our 45th wedding anniversary and we just were not happy with our table. I requested a booth and we were seated at a small booth for 2. We were requested a larger booth for more comfort since I just had a hip replacement 3 weeks prior. We were given a booth by the door and it was extremely cold. We did not want to complain any more so we just stayed there. It seemed like their "usual" crowd was coming in since they knew seemed to know everyone and we felt like their "usual" crowd was seated at the nicer booths up back. Not the best 45th anniversary celebration.
our waiter didn't have time for us. he had too many tables to wait on
Our meal was very underwhelming. The oysters for an appetizer were delicious but overpriced. The seafood assortment entree was over cooked, with the exception of the scallops which were plump and delicious. My companions fried fisherman‘s platter was 80% calamari, everything was overcooked. The waitperson was fine. We would not go back.
Nice time at legals! To, us it’s great as all of us can order something desired on the menu. We especially would like to compliment Lindsay for her wonderful service and pleasant personality! She is awesome and made the experience very enjoyable given my husband’s meal was not adequately prepared and had to be redone! Hence not 5 stars for food.
Very good service & food wonderful
We arrived 20 minutes late for our reservation, however, they were very accommodating even though busy. The service, food and drinks were excellent and served at a nice pace even though the restaurant was full. We were very pleased overall.
Our service was very good. We were seated right away, although we did have reservations. The coconut shrimp appetizer was good, but they were over-cooked (hard). My daughter ordered Sushi, which she enjoyed. I got the haddock, which was good. The corn on the cob wasn't very tasty, where that's probably because it's out of season. Loved the spinach. I also got the clam chowder, that was very sandy -- which was unusual. We also enjoyed the complementary rolls. Overall, we enjoyed ourselves.
Legals is always consistent with food and service but their prices could be better.
Super yummy, everything was great, service, food, drinks, just wish I had room for dessert!
Food and service were excellent. Server was very accommodating and let us switch the sides that came with the meal.
Made reservations, arrived and everything was lovely from the moment we stepped in the door. Seated promptly at a private table by the windows, wonderful attentive server, and delicious dinners. I do miss the old look of Legals when it had the leather booths, carpets and old school feel - but I can get over it. Lynnfield Legals pales in comparison.
Elaine at the bar made outstanding dirty martinis and provided fabulous service. The kale butternut squash salad was so fresh and delicious, the chowder was creamy and full of deliciousness, the sushi lobster Rangoon is a must try and the broiled seafood entree had salmon, scallops, shrimp and swordfish was cooked to perfection served with roasted Brussel sprouts. Keep up the good work and great service LSF. You are the best!
We have always LOVED Legal seafood and have eaten at various locations.
We went out for our anniversary and although the food as as good as always, the service was not.
It was not an especially busy time so we were surprised at the lack of attention from our waitress. She was pleasant enough but not attentive.
New Years Eve- servers were a bit overwhelmed but the bar couldn’t keep up. Waited 40 minutes for a drink.
Unfortunately the restaurant is not as good as it used to be. The menu is not very creative, entrees were pretty basic, and although they did a major renovation, the design is boring. The good side is that the bar is nice and big. Won’t be returning anytime soon.
Great! We always enjoy an early New Year’s Eve dinner at Legal’s in Peabody. Not crowded, service terrific, food fantastic.
I've been to many of the Legal restaurants and Peabody is by far my least favorite, especially since the renovations. New Year's Eve was a huge disappointment. We were there late afternoon, so it was hardly rush hour for NYE. I requested a booth on open table and I'm well aware of " it's only a suggestion not a guarantee". And I wanted to be in the dining room not the bar area. They ushered us to a table for 2 by moving it a few inches from other tables, which would've been like sitting with strangers on all sides and being unable to carry on a conversation. The "booths" in the bar area that they shuffled us back to are barely big enough for 2 people. No hooks to hank your coats, so it's a person, a purse and a winter coat. And I'm not a big person. The little table has to accommodate 2 bread plates, a dish with the bread, 2 water glasses and utensils, which were absent. And that's before the dinner comes out! I had to take utensils from another table. We were there for 15/20 minutes before getting our water and champagne. And they were not that busy at that time. They knew how many reservations they had. They obviously should've had more wait staff to accommodate walk ins. All in all, the experience was a bust! Happy New Year!
Excellent service. Jim is an amazing server.
Food was delicious. Was a wonderful dining experience
Anniversary 36 years
Even though I do not live in the area I have eaten at this particular restaurant on many occasions. Normally it is a good meal. This time the food was good, but the service was the worst I have ever experienced at a Legal restaurant. Our waitress was incompetent forgetting things that we ordered, filling only some water glasses while leaving others empty, slow to serve, etc. greatness the place was busy, but not that crazy. This experience is going to make me hesitate before returning.
Legal is always the best for fresh seafood with flavorful preparation. The desserts are delicious as well!
