Legal Sea Foods - Peabody Ratings and Reviews
The seafood as usual was superb. My haddock was fresh and flaky, and I had some tasty shandong sauce to liven it up, along with jasmine rice and fresh spinach. Plenty of food, so had enough for a leftover meal. Noticed that the prices keep going up ($25 and up for most fresh cuts of fish, $10 and up for a glass of wine, etc.) - will likely only dine here on special occasions from now on. Service was decent, and atmosphere was quiet enough to enjoy ourselves.
The night would have been perfect but you were all sold out of the dessert special. I was so excited to try it and when it came time to order it you were out of it. I was disappointed because I usually do not get dessert. Everything else was great. Waiter was EXCELLENT.
Always enjoy going to this Legal's location. Never a bad meal or bad service here. Staff very friendly, attentive and accommodating. Wish the lobster prices weren't so inflated but at least they cook their lobsters perfectly. I've enjoyed filet mignon here many times and have never had to send one back due to it not being cooked as requested. Right now they offer Maple Bread Pudding as a seasonal dessert and it is fantastic. So worth the calories! We look forward to returning again very soon.
I lived in Boston, visiting both the Park Square and Chestnut Hill locations regularly and always found it to be a treat. I'd always put Legal Seafood on a pedestal when it came to exceptional seafood. After my last visit...not so much. When we arrived the dining room was only about 40% full. Not too busy at all. Three of us ordered chowder and the 4th member of our party ordered a salad. The chowder came out and we ate it, then wait another 30 minutes for our food to come out. That wasn't really an issue - we figured it was being cooked fresh. You notice I did not mention the salad? So the food finally comes and there are small issues like no tarter sauce, no butter, the waiter dropping food into one of our drinks and asking if we wanted a new one (no, I like drinking Sprite with fried clams in it), and still no salad. When our waitress came back to our table after being on hiatus for nearly an hour, we told her about the baked potatoes two of us ordered, being lukewarm; receiving no dressing for the salad that came 10 minutes after our entrees and still having not gotten that replacement drink. She stops us by turning without a word and walking away to get a Manager. The Manager comes over and without apologizing, goes on to tell us that baked potatoes were taken off the menu, and recently put back on, but as "stuffed baked potatoes". They keep a dozen or so on the warmer, just in case someone asks for one. Maybe it's me, but regardless of whether we got the potato stuffed or naked, shouldn't we expect it to be hot? I assume that once they're stuffed, they go through some type or broiler or warming process. We tried to make the best of it, but if truth be told I've had better seafood and larger portions from the local hole in the wall seafood restaurant who sells their entrees for 2/3 of what we paid at Legals. We ordered no appetizers or dessert, had cold potatoes, less than satisfactory food and service and all it cost was $180.00.
Terrible experience. Had a reservation and waited 15 minutes to be seated even though people walked in off the street without a reservation they were seated before us. The hostess clearly forgot about us and sat us at a cafeteria style table with small dividers between other diners at the table. If I had a reservation then I expect to be sat at a booth or table and not in a community style table. Employees at the hostess area were juvenile and complaining about work within earshot of customers. Food delivery was confused at best....runners would walk around tables and ask "did you order the XYX....?" Happened all night. I'll never go to this site again and will warn others not to go as well.
The renovated restaurant is an improvement even as the bar area takes over from the tables. Food is consistently good, rarely great, but fresh seafood simply cooked is what this is about. The wine list is fine and reasonable, but not nearly as interesting as in the past. Service is always pleasant and accommodating but is not intended to be luxury attentive service. Oddly, lobster tends to be a little over-cooked and overly salty. Scallops are dry packed, not fresh local. Overall, it is a dependable local institution for good seafood in a casual setting.
Legal's has been a "go to" restaurant for us so I am sad to say that this was a poor experience. We were very pleasantly greeted at the hostess stand. We waited 20 minutes for our reserved table. The restaurant was very busy and there was insufficient waitstaff. We waited about 10 minutes before a very harried waiter came with water, and since we knew what we wanted, we both ordered the crab cake combo entree. Server was very quick to bring bread service, and about 20 minutes later someone else brought our entrees. The crab cake was cold and dry; the shrimp was cold and overcooked; and the scallops although cold were very good. Very disappointing.
The food and service as well as the ambiance were all very good and pleasant. It was an enjoyable evening and would appeal to different age groups and different occasions. I have gone to Legal for both casual dining and celebratory dinners. Both have been pleasant and satisfying experiences.
The Peabody location is our favorite. Always excellent service and top quality food there. Dined here on Christmas Day. This is our third year dining at Legals on either Christmas Day or Christmas Eve and we look forward to it as it's always an enjoyable experience. I had the twin lobster special which was fantastic. Two decent sized lobsters served with a side of roasted vegetables. My wife had the filet which was cooked to perfection. She has ordered the filet on three different occasions at this Legals and each time it's cooked perfectly and delicious. Obviously, the cooks are trained extremely well here. Wine and cocktails were excellent as was the dessert....Bananas Foster, which came with three scoops of vanilla bean ice cream. Our server Aaron was very attentive and pleasant and willing to accommodate our requests. All in all we were so pleased with our Christmas meal at Legal's in Peabody and look forward to returning soon. It's really our favorite place to dine!
The food was good. I made a reservation for 4 and received a confirmation from Open Table. When we arrived I was told that there was no reservation. We were seated but it was a small table for 4 and there was no space to put our coats. The food and service was good.
