Super friendly wait staff and delicious food!
Good but not amazing.
The place is looking a little tired and everything was a little disappointing. The cod was seriously undercooked, as in barely warm in the middle. The potatoes were bland and uninteresting, also lukewarm and dried out as if they’d been sitting a long time. Sides are a total afterthought. Cappuccino was weak and watery and service was exceedingly slow. Other contemporaneous tables were finished and gone before our meals arrived. Used to be corporate but bustling, efficient and tasty. Won’t go back.
Over price for what you get. Place seemed old and in need of an update. Plates even looked worn. The food was good, fish was cooked perfectly, sides of French fries, baked small potatoes and spinach were a step below ordinary. Spinach was just about inedible unless you are a huge fan of garlic
I love seafood, and have been going to Legal seafood for the past 35 years... this location is particularly average, whether in food quality or service... not all locations are the same.
The Caesar salad with grilled chicken is always good in any Legal Seafood.
Great food and my waitress was outstanding! Best service I’ve received in a restaurant in a long time.
A bit dated atmosphere. Good but not great seafood. Anelle was a GREAT server. Receptionist was very good too.
Our first visit for many years. Rather disappointing décor and food although service was excellent. The front of house team were extremely accommodating about our request to move table. Cod was well cooked but a new dish of Salmon and Shrimp with rice noodles in broth, an Asian inspired recipe, looked insipid and tasted only of fiery chilli (and I like spicy food) rather than the fish itself, which was quite bland. Not a well executed dish at all.
as a frequent visitor to Legal Seafood in other areas I found this site to be up to the excellent standard that I would expect. service was a little slow, which some people may prefer, otherwise everything was perfect.
Have been here in the past with a better expeeiance . First our table wzs horribly lopsided almost cauxung all of our drinks to spill. They did fix it but i dont think anyone should have been seated with the table like that. As for the food it appeared that ths portions are smaller than we remembered, but was good none the less. The server was nice but our order was butchered when 1 entree was completetly missed and did not come out until the rest of us were finished, and ended up bringing it home. Was offered an apology but nothing more, that was disapointing .
The hostess looked at me like I did not have a reservation for 1pm and said I must have made the reservation at another legals. I showed her my reservation on my phone and she never apologized for her screw up. The manager was friendly and had her take me to a table. All along the hostess checked my mother in first so that was the reason she couldn’t find my table. Still no apology from her. Everyone else was very friendly there
Recognizing the geographic location in downtown Boston, the cost of lunch exceeded my expectations relative to the food quality. Perhaps it's just Boston, but... Moreover, OpenTable offered reservations beginning at 11:00 am, but, upon arrival at 11:40 am for our noon reservation, I was met with a gruff welcome that Legal did not open until noon--and the bar would NOT be open before then, from, of all people, the general manager. Thankfully, our wonderful server made the Mother's Day experience more pleasant, despite no tangible recognition of the important day, like a special meal for mothers or something, other than a shameless advertisement about dining with Legal on Mother's Day. Honestly, I expected more from this august Boston-area restaurant.
Was glad to have a table in a corner by the window, as it was quite busy. But staff was friendly and efficient. Salads were huge. My daughter loved the fried clams. Way better than anything we get in the Midwest.
Legal has always been one of our favorites. The seafood was as fresh as ever when we visited recently...scallops were outstanding. The service was courteous, friendly and prompt. However, one big beef: we no longer can choose two sides with our grilled fish order. Loved being able to order cole slaw and sauteed spinach with my fish in the past, but now they make you get a prescribed side dish with each main course. Mr. Berkowitz: Please restore your guests' power of choice!!!!
I had a coupon for the bill but the waiter was going way too fast. It wasn't used and i want a refund for the coupon.
I’ve had amazing meals at Legal in the past but this meal was subpar. Steamers and mussels were not very tasty and clam chowder usually a consistent amazing mainstay was mostly potatoes and lacked the clam tanginess that i expect from fresh chowder. Diasappointing for a meal costing over $50.
We chose this location out of convenience, but it seems a bit dated. The food, however, was as delicious as any other location.
Ordered the crab cake combo and it was delicious. Substituted the salad for fries, but I am sure either would have been acceptable.
Stay away from the seafood casserole unless you like your seafood over cooked beyond recognition and coated in oil. Stay away from the calamari unless you like it rubbery. Menu was uninspiring, food was gross, ambience was only okay. Won’t be back.
The food was delicious. (Fish tacos, chipotle shrimp tacos, Anna’s baked scrod, fish n chips, chowder and Cesar salad). Strawberry shortcake was shared by all and was fabulous. Host promptly seated us. Waiter was friendly courteous and on top of all of our orders. Thank you for a lovely birthday lunch with my friends!
Excellent meal. Loved the cioppino!
Great wait staff-Melissa. Feel like the price is a little high.
The food was great, as usual. However, we (my date and I) felt rushed by the waitress. So much so that my date didn't want to order dessert. She just wanted to leave. On at least two occasions, the waitress tried to remove the plate before my date finished her meal. She constantly interrupted our conversation to ask if we wanted anything else or if we were finished with this or that. It's okay to ask a couple of times, but it felt like she asked (at our table) every 5 minutes. If you have video of the table we were seated, I strongly encourage you to watch the video and you'll see and understand why her service was troubling. I have been to several Legal Seafood restaurants in Massachusetts and Washington DC/Crystal City Virginia over the last 30 years (as long as I have been in this country) and have never written a negative comment/review about your restaurant. Although I'm allergic to shellfish, I always felt safe dining in any of your restaurants.
I have been to Legal's many times and at many locations. Usually, the food, service, and ambience are all excellent. This time the seafood casserole was inundated with butter, which detracted from the excellent fish. Most significantly, this time the waitress was dreadful, very long waits for drinks and food. In fact, one of the managers came over to take our order! I expect that this poor service was a one-off and will not repeat itself.
Food was good, service was outstanding. The fried shrimp is great, best anywhere. Fries are not good. Drinks were good. All in all we would go back.
Fabulous Graduation celebration! 15 of us ! Service was Great, Food was delicious!
Thank you to Aretha (manager) for a Great Night for all of us!
While the food was outstanding and we seated near a window, the place we were seated was close to a 'service kart' where the waiters use as temporary storage for dirty plates, trays, and also a bucket with water to clean the tables. Not that the service kart was smelly or something like that, but the waiters liked to hang in there to chat. Basically I couldn't chat with my wife because there were 2, sometimes 3, waiters having a chat less than 5 feet away... Why don't they have that service kart in a place without tables? That was just annoying. I don't expect that kind of service from a restaurant like LSF.
Excelent guys thanks so much!! We Peruvians are very picky with food but this was outstanding
In a word: POOR.
When we met the waiter, I told him we had theatre tickets and had to be out in one hour. The waiter confused my order. I ordered the swordfish and actually pointed to the menu for "swordfish", well below "salmon". The salmon arrived. I was told that they would get the swordfish rapidly. It did not come for 30 minutes by which time my wife and I had shared her trout. They offered to pack the swordfish for me to take to the theatre, but I felt that might be considered a commentary on the performance we were soon to see. The waiter apologized multiple times. The manager comped both dinners, something I did not ask for.
I usually love legal ! This was a below average experience from start to finish. A disappointment.
Service was extraordinary from entry to leaving. Sean, our server, was kind, friendly, explained so well, not intrusive. Crab cakes were so tasty, wine was wonderful, all at less than most restaurants in central Boston. The noise level is probably not usually as loud as we experienced because of a loud party next to us. A great Boston experience for us and our visitor from Argentina.
The best seafood ever!!!
Good meal. Close to Boston Opera House. Nice date night.
We have been to this restaurant several times in the past. The food and service were both very good. The service was very good this time as well. My soft shell crab appetizer was excellent. The rest of our meals were so so. The air conditioning was blasting down on our table to the point that our food cooled off very quickly. I asked for tea. The server brought the tea box to the table, it was half empty, so I ordered coffee. The coffee or possibly the cup had a strange fruity aroma.
The food was delicious as expected of Legal Sea Foods. The music was a bit loud but not uncomfortable enough to leave. The online reservation process was easy!
Wonderful waitstaff and delicious food. Nice gluten free options too!
We were visiting from out of town and had heard wonders about Legal Seafood so we decided to give it a try!
I tried the buttered Lobster Roll because it was a dish unique to Boston. It was very chewy, but not very flavorful. I ate less than half the sandwich. My 3 friends also ordered the lobster roll and rated it a 3/5. They also rated their cocktails at 3/5. My bill for the lobster roll, with side of coleslaw, and water to drink was $35.26. If I had it to do over again, I would have tried a different dish, perhaps the crab dip appetizer, and opted for a lobster roll at Quincy Market instead.
Beautiful interior to the restaurant! Wonderful service!
PS: They have a number of Gluten Free Options, which was incredible! Kudos to you Legal Seafood!
This was my first time at this chain and I wasn’t impressed at all. We had to ask others for help because our server was not available.
It was my birthday and the first thing I did was tell the greeter. The greeter asked me if I would like for a team of people to sing to me and a free desert. I said yes. The greeter told me to also let my waiter know, which I did. When I told my waiter, the waiter said “we don’t really do that anymore”. There was no apology from him. Then when I tried to confirm that there usually isn’t a free dessert on someone’s birthday (with a manager), the greeter came back to say he had been joking. He gave me a sincere apology which I really appreciated but this was also very embarrassing and disappointing for me. The greeter and the waiter did actually come over to sing happy birthday which was nice but other than this, the overall service was not too good. I had other people dining with me and one of them was a much older woman who needed hot water because she has trouble drinking ice cold water. She told our waiter that she needed hot water and the waiter forgot. He brought it over later and apologized. Earlier that night, after the waiter told me they don’t sing happy birthday anymore, I had to ask him if they still serve bread. I had been sitting in my seat for at least 10 minutes (alone at first) and the waiter didn’t even ask me if I wanted bread while I wait for the other people to join. The people next to us were loud but I was used to this, having grown up in Boston. One of my friends noticed the loudness though and right then, I realized that maybe we should’ve gone to the Legal Sea Foods in Copley instead of Park Plaza. The waiters don’t seem to care about high standard service and perhaps the people who eat there feel the same way.
