Legal Sea Foods - Park Square
Legal Sea Foods’ flagship location in Boston’s Theater District is surrounded by hotels and nearby Newbury Street, Copley Square and Boston Common. Just inside you’ll see a two-story cascading fountain, the center-piece of the restaurant.
With over 40 varieties of fresh fish and shellfish available throughout the year as well as an award-winning wine list, there’s no doubt why legions of fans have fallen hook, line and sinker.
We’ve received a boatload of accolades including “#1 Best Seafood Restaurant” (USA Today, 2013), “Most Popular Boston Restaurant” (Zagat, 2012/2013), “Best Seafood Restaurant” (Improper Bostonian, 2010), “Best Chowder” (Boston Magazine, 2010) and the honor of serving our legendary New England Clam Chowder at every presidential inauguration since 1981.
Thank you for giving we pretty good meal .
Our waiter was James P. He was able to speak Chinese (though we do speak English) so that made it much more convenient. It was fun having dinner at Legal Sea Foods. The lobster was absolutely delicious!! I personally love the lobster bisque. It’s not too creamy but not too fluid either, it’s just right. Overall, we had an excellent experience at this restaurant!
It was our celebration time and the wait staff was very sensitive to that. It was a good meal and a good time.
Leg's changed their menu. We preferred the option to pick a type of fish, pick a sauce, rub and pick sides. They eliminated the pick sides and some side choices. They also eliminated the surf & turf combo which was a favorite. would suggest they bring back the al a carte - pick fish, pick sides etc. and surf and turf. They did add the fish combo and crab cake combo which are good. they eliminated the baked potato and onion strings- you had to ask for but weren't even offered as an option.
Server was not good- not up to Legal standards. very nice but forgetful. She did not bring rolls until we asked and then they came with the entrees not while we were waiting. We ordered and Appetizer that did not show up until we asked for it and it was delivered with the entrees. All the food came up at once. She provided the steak but not a steak knife. We had to flag down another server to provide it. Overall a bit disappointing. Legal's usually has very well trained wait staff and this sever did not live up to that standard. The food was good but the menu change and service was disappointing.
Legal’s is always a treat! The food is consistently good as is the service. You can’t go wrong!
Having arrived too early for our reservation, we went to the downstairs bar for a drink then decided to have our dinner there.
The bartender/waitress was absolutely wonderful! She was very sweet, attentive and had a great sense of humor.
Best seafood in Boston and excellent service. Highly recommend the crab dip, oysters Legal, and bananas foster
The food was great as usual. Crab cake is the best i have had at ANY restaurant and we travel quite a lot. I had shrimp tempura and it was awesome. It was a special. My husband had his favorite Nutty Salmon which he loves. I can’t say enough about our waitress. She was very friendly and helpful. We had a nice evening after the travel show. This is our go to restaurant. The food and service is consistently great. Thanks!
We like to include the "Treasures of the Reef" in a light meal of appetizers. It's an enjoyably varied plate of oysters, clams, shrimp and lobster pieces.
In conversation with our server we were told how well-treated the staff feels. That comes through in an upbeat, welcoming vibe.
The Park Square Legal works especially well if one is going to one of the nearby theaters.
Food and service excellent, only complaint is that with the size of the restaurant there was no need to seat people so close to other parties.
Loved everything about this resturant! The food the service all of it was Amazing and I Definetly will be going back.
I've never had a bad meal at Legal Sea Foods. We stopped for a pre-theater dinner and my "lite" dinner, a Thai shrimp dish, was perfect.
Kaitlin our waitress was most attentive and accommodating to our requests. We were there on the BEAUTIFUL promotion and portions and choices were excellent !
Food took too long to come out
I've eaten at Legal many times over the years. They are a reliable staple - good when you're not sure where to go, you're dealing with food allergies (non-seafood), need reliable service, etc. In this case, my wife and I needed to go for an early Sunday dinner before a show. And this worked out perfectly. It was a bit quieter than usual though because coincidentally it was Super Bowl Sunday. But I've gone at this time before and it's always a pleasant experience. No fancy menu items. Just good, well prepared food in an overall nice upscale (but still casual) atmosphere.
Legal Sea Foods is always a delight. On our recent visit the Wellfleet oysters were briny, light and so fresh. The scallops were perfection. As was the cod. Tried to find room for the amazing crab cakes but I guess we will have to get them next time. We have been to this restaurant many times and the service has been exceptional each time. It is always a treat to dine here. We will be back. Thanks
Perfect choice for post-matinee dinner with great friends! Service was outstanding, and so was the food!!
Excellent food and service! Will be back. Loved the cod and salmon.
I’ve been to almost all of the Legal Seafoods around the area and this is one of the better ones. Gordon was just great!!! Really good for your business!
Legal has lost its luster.
My garden salad arrived brown.
I sent it back.
My server brought me a new one.
He said they had just "opened a new bag."
The second salad was less brown than the first, but still brown.
My fish was pedestrian.
I got my bill and thought to myself "I paid this much for that?"
I used to feel like Legal was something special.
I could have got a better salad and a near equivalent fish from my supermarket's take-out section.
As always a lovely meal. Great service and food. Lots of options and care for my gluten free diet.
Very convenient location to my downtown hotel. The restaurant was highly recommended by locals. The waiter was a bit slow to get to our table. He advised one person to order something other than his first choice because he felt the first choice was "dry, salty, and awful." Nice tip. We were a party of three. Two of us ordered seafood with rice - those meals came first. The two of them were nearly finished eating when my meal of three raw oysters and a cup of lobster bisque finally arrived. The bisque was cold. Though the restaurant was fairly empty while we were there, we were sat next to a table that had a crying baby. The food was okay, not something I would rant about. Service was mediocre. Would have been nice to be seated somewhere away from the crying baby.
I've been recommended Legal Seafood many times and everyone always has rave reviews.... Unfortunately my first time experience was less than what I expected. I was served raw shrimp, in a baked casserole... Not sure how that happens but it definitely put a halt to my appetite. Our server and the manager were very apologetic and worked to rectify the situation, but honestly not sure I would return, willingly, after that mishap. Kind of scary.
Very attentive service and good food. Prices are touch too high if judged by the food, but the quality and cooking is very good. I had my usual complaint about the amount of salt used --- the crab cake was a salt bomb.
Waiter was rushing. Never even told us if there were any specials or not. It was cold in the restaurant. Fried clams were ok...not crispy like they should have been.
Have always been impressed by the consistency across Legal venues—not great, but consistently good. Latest visit was a disappointment. A pad Thai dish with shrimp was dry—noodles in a clump adhering to one another and shrimp significantly over cooked (to the point of being inedible). Regret I didn’t send it back. The chef(s) should never have let the dish leave the kitchen. Sloppy work.
There’s also a case to be made that Legal ought to stick to its traditional seafood fare and avoid experimenting with “international“ cuisines.
Very disappointing. Will be a while before I consider going back.
We loved the location of your restaurant and easiness of being able to make a reservation via online! Food was delicious even though the shrimp pasta was a little bland. Would have enjoyed some more seasoning on the dish or maybe would have cooked the mushrooms a little longer to get a nice crust on them to bring out the flavor more. Salmon was cooked perfectly and flavorful. Overall we would consider coming back for another visit especially since your location is near the theaters in the area! Thanks again!
Fried shrimp--good, not great.
Almond salmon and seafood casserole--great.
Staff--seemed to be rushing us a bit (to ensure that they could turn the table?)
One of the staff had used entirely too much fabric softener on her clothes. I could smell it from 4 feet away.
Quiet enough to have a conversation with my 80+ year old dinner companions.
Overall a very good experience! (There's always room for improvement.)
Snow and ice storm - staff was wonderful and so was food.
Have a reservation!
Food: They've hit a winning formula for fresh spherical lightly crusty rolls while appetizers are on their way. Our appetizers arrived before we finished the rolls. The entrees, a salmon and ravioli and an "everything" tuna (imagine an everything bagel and use tuna instead of dough), were very good.
Service was attentive without hovering.
We love Legal! Went before a show. Was a good meal. Waitstaff was very good just very busy and she had too many tables.
Fantastic pre concert meal. Great service and outstanding food
Usually we have a waitress Arnolina. She is excellent. This time we had a different waiter. No attention given at all. Once done eating we had to ask for our check.. that took 35 minutes. They were a bit busy .. but the shrimp we ordered were over cooked and rubbery. Ususally our favorite spot to eat before the show. Hopefully our next visit will be the usually good service and meal.
Run, don't walk away from this restaurant. Way overpriced, horrendously tasting warm lobster roll. Fries indifferent, cole slaw indifferent, service indifferent. Can't get much worse.
Consistently great quality seafood. Offers a large variety of fresh fish. New England clam chowder is the best!
Great spot for a late lunch. No very crowded, and the menu was very good, nice selection.
I got sick 1 hour after I ate at Legals, Park sq. xyzlmw
Decent food but so pricey for what you get. I've always loved Legal but you can get as good or better seafood more reasonably priced at other restaurants around town.
Had my birthday dinner here with a friend and it was incredible! The food was great, service was attentive and personable, and they even brought us a free dessert without knowing it was my birthday. I’ll be coming back here anytime I’m in Boston!
Everything was great... from the speed of being sat, our waitress was quick and efficient with drinks and apps (delicious) and then our main entrees were perfectly timed.
