Legal Sea Foods - Park Square
Legal Sea Foods’ flagship location in Boston’s Theater District is surrounded by hotels and nearby Newbury Street, Copley Square and Boston Common. Just inside you’ll see a two-story cascading fountain, the center-piece of the restaurant.
With over 40 varieties of fresh fish and shellfish available throughout the year as well as an award-winning wine list, there’s no doubt why legions of fans have fallen hook, line and sinker.
We’ve received a boatload of accolades including “#1 Best Seafood Restaurant” (USA Today, 2013), “Most Popular Boston Restaurant” (Zagat, 2012/2013), “Best Seafood Restaurant” (Improper Bostonian, 2010), “Best Chowder” (Boston Magazine, 2010) and the honor of serving our legendary New England Clam Chowder at every presidential inauguration since 1981.
There is something just relaxing and comfortable about Legal. Our food was delicious and the staff was quite friendly. Our waitress was quite new and it was visible but she was still delightful. Always a pleasure.
I have been going to Legal’s since 1990. This was by far the worst experience - the service was OK, but the food was terrible. Fish was overcooked, oysters weren’t shucked well and the streamers were tasty. Very sad.
Our server was efficient and friendly. Great music and food choices.
The level of noise in the restaurant was so high we couldn’t hear conversation across the table. Food was excellent!
From the stale dinner rolls to the lukewarm coffee and tired looking desserts, our meal was a big disappointment. We have often enjoyed dining at other Legal locations (in particular Kendall Square) and were embarrassed as we entertained out of town guests at what we had described as a "Boston Institution". Overcooked, limp vegetables, greasy, stringy steak, very ordinary fish preparation and quality. I do want to compliment the staff on the floor who were friendly and efficient...but could not make up for a less than stellar meal.
Lovely restaurant. Very attentive wait staff and good food. Baked items come out a bit dry, as with many restaurants, so ask for extra butter/sauce when you order. Great oysters.
Downton Abbey exhibit
We were the first to arrive when they opened for lunch, but the place immediately filled up. The service was great, but for the first time ever I was not crazy about what I ordered. Three of us dined, and we all ordered oysters which were fine. One of the other people and I shared shrimp tacos. They came with black beans sitting on a pile of white rice. It was very unappealing to look at so I never even tasted it. The tacos were just OK. The other person ordered the dumplings in lemon grass - ginger broth, and said they were very good.
Birthday dinner and a celebration of our first trip to Boston. The food was incredible. We had the traditional lobster roll, a half dozen oysters on the half shell, clam chowder, crab cakes and the Greek chopped salad with Cajun-seasoned shrimp. Everything was perfectly prepared.
Legal is always a reliable choice and the Park Square location was close to the exhibit that drew us to the area.
I ordered the Caesar salad and the Salmon bowl (may not be on the menu at each Legal location.) It seems to me that the Caesar won an award a number of years ago and still deserves that high praise. After almost every bite of the Salmon Bowl I said some version of “OMG, this is so delicious!” I did add a little soy & hot sauce, but that’s just me.
Stevie was a delightful server and a big help in finalizing our choices.
A lovely mid-week dining experience!
Server was excellent, very accommodating and knowledgeable.
But arrival of entrees was very, very late.
Clam chowder and crab cake only two things we enjoyed for dinner. Entres lacked any semblance of seafood as taste was bland and uninspiring.
Dining experience was just “OK” and definitely not as good as other Legal Seafoods we’ve been to over the years. I didn’t find the restaurant “dated” as other reviewers have mentioned.
We were seated in the back private room, and the only overhead light flickered unless the dimmer was placed at max brightness (blinding) or so low as to be useless. That room definitely needs better lighting.
Service was very good. Our waitress was very nice and checked in with us an appropriate amount. I agree with other reviewers that once you place your entree order it comes out fast (may or may not be a good thing depending on how long you want to be there). Luckily we ordered apps first and had the waitress come back later for entree orders so we wouldn’t get everything too close together.
The lite and regular chowder were great. Entrees were a miss: my wife didn’t like her salmon (she said it was much better when we ate at a different Legal earlier in the summer) and thought it was odd that the seaweed salad was cooked. Left half her entree over. I had the crab cake trio. The crab cake part was good. The grilled shrimp and scallops were OK, nothing special.
We won’t be back to this particular location.
This was our first time to any Legal Seafood, and we selected it while traveling in Boston specifically because of its celiac-friendly reputation. We. Were. Not. Disappointed.
Everything, from our waiter, Steve’s, professionalism and well-versed understanding of our gluten-free concerns, to the number of gluten free options on the menu (literally ALL of the fried fish is gluten free, plus there were many other choices available) and the quality of the food were AMAZING!
Fried calamari, whole-belly clams, clam chowder (regular New England was the best I’ve ever had, and gluten free light chowder was delicious, as well), and grilled shrimp with jalapeño polenta and kale salad — all gluten free and all absolutely delicious. They even brought gluten free dinner rolls. The best part was how comfortable we felt knowing they truly understood my husband’s dietary needs Ao we were completely relaxed, which is rare for a celiac dining out. Can’t recommend this place highly enough!
I’d be better at doing this if I had planned to do so before I went, but circumstances prevented it. Let me just say that the food was great and the waiter was exceptionally knowledgeable.
Very nice. Food was delicious
The restaurant was not busy and very quiet for a Sunday on a holiday weekend. The waitress was super knowledgeable about allergies and made sure my niece had no gluten, dairy or nuts. The food was delicious.
I would give 6 stars (or more) for our overall experience if I could :) !! We arrived earlier than the rest of our party so my girlfriend and I sat at the bar for a cocktail while we waited. Our bartender, George, was Awesome! Certainly one of the hardest working, and friendliest bartenders my girlfriend and I have ever met. The cocktails he made for us were spot on perfect and the attention he paid to each customer was impressive! As busy as he was, he somehow even found the time to conversate with us. We told him we were vacationing in Boston and he in turn gave us some great ideas on things to do and see around the city. George jumpstarted a great experience for us at Legal Sea Foods that night and little did we know it was about to get even better.
Our other guest then arrived and we were seated at our table, where we met our server, Michelle. From the moment Michelle introduced herself we could tell she was very kind, with a positive attitude and great energy. Her knowledge of the menu, ability to multitask, and attention to detail, was by far the best experience we have ever had, and mind you, my girlfriend and I eat out 2-3 times per week on the average, so we appreciate good service when we see it. Michelle was super friendly and provided us with top notch service and a great dinner! If I was a restaurant owner or manager and wanted to show new hires how things should be done I would ABSOLUTELY have them learn from Michelle!
Overall the ambiance, service and food quality was OUTSTANDING! I just wish we would have known about this restaurant earlier in our trip:) Thanks again to George and Michelle for making our first experience at Legal Sea Food so great !!!
I was rather disappointed. The soup was great but everything else was marginal at best. Our server seemed stressed and her appearance was sloppy. Everyone has a bad day - I get it.
This is a great location to have a delicious meal and catch up with family and friends or meet with work colleagues. Good food and great atmosphere.
The food was good but was not happy with the fact that we received our main course before we had finished our soup. We were not in a rush so this was not enjoyable
Nick was my server...if you’re lucky, you’ll get in his section!! It’s Legal Seafood....was there going to be a question about food quality??!! The best part of the experience was Nick’s recommendation for oysters (listen, he won’t steer you wrong). I’m not sure they could have any “wrong” oysters but Nick listens to your likes and makes great recommendations. I stuck with just the oysters and they are worth the trip - highly recommend!!
Atmosphere was nice server was
Very nice and polite and accommodating. There are
Interesting menus in the area for
Met a friend I had not seen in thirty years. We both knew we would have a great meal at Legal. The waiter was very considerate about our reunion and gave us plenty of time to talk. Great service.
Service was slow
Eine super Location für Seafood und lobster
The room looks really tired, time for an update. Ordered half bottle of wine, it had turned, it happens. Very expensive for mediocre food. I feel like it used to be better. Maybe it just hasn’t risen up to up to what’s around Boston. I hate to complain about staff, our server was very nice but not super trained. I can live with that. For the price, I would have expected more.
Always a pleasure at all Legal Seafood locations. Professional, knowledgeable service, great food! Out of town family was impressed for the second time at this location. Sean (server) was so friendly, helpful & professional! LSF really ensures that their staff knows what they’re talking about! A great evening was had by all!
Very good food.
However, our order was lost and waited a long time for meals.
Nice place with good food and nice atmosphere. Some of the fish wasn't as good as I thought it would be, but overall it was a nice experience.
Top notch! We had a great meal here with friends! I had the Arctic char which was cooked to perfection. The oysters were delicious with a lot of flavor and my husband enjoyed his fisherman’s combo with fried shrimp, clams and scallops.
Decor is tired and worn out tables and chairs. Food quality is subpar. No ice in water. I had to ask for a bread basket. Fried clams came without requested cocktail sauce. Waiter was slow to deliver drink, and not timely with refreshing water. I ordered soup, salad and fried clams, which were all delivered at the same time which is not good.
One of the nicer Legal Seafoods in the Boston area. Beautiful inside and great service.
Legal delivers consistently good seafood, along with an excellent wine list. It's the consistency that really makes it...never had a bad meal here.
Birthday dinner! Best Lobster Rolls in the Hub!
The food was good but the espresso maschine was broken and the service not very attentive even though the restaurant was not very full.
I’ve been to a lot of Legal sea foods restaurants. This one felt like an Applebee’s.
Get in, Get out. There was no wait from drinks, app to entree.
The food was fine, the server was fine, Never gave her name. I wanted more of an experience than “hurry up and go”
The whole dinner was done in 40minutes????
I eat very slow, so too quick for me.
Legal C bar in Dedham does the dining thing way better.
Have been to Legal Sea Foods many times (not this location though). So far it was always outstanding. However, this time it was just average in every aspect. Given the price tag, we most like won't go back.
Ambiance was nice . Staff was courteous and professional. Food was good but it’s on the expensive side . Crab claw was a bit over cooked but overall I would recommend it for a nice evening out on the town
I have heard about Legal Sea Food for years and ad to try it. It did not disappoint. We went early on a Monday night so it was relatively quiet. The food was terrific.
