Legal Sea Foods - Paramus Ratings and Reviews
I made a dinner reservation to celebrate a very special ocassion, my mother-in-law's 75th milestone birthday. She was visiting from out of state for her birthday but also because her son and I just got engaged last month. Her birthday was noted in my opentable rsv. When we arrived for dinner on Wed 11/22, we were seated promptly. Our server was attentive, friendly and really great. We ordered a lovely bottle of Pinot Noir and enjoyed the Steamers, Salad, King Crab Legs, and Lobster Surf & Turf. The food was delicious. What was incredibly disappointing was when the dessert came out and no one sang happy birthday or even acknowledged my mother-in-law's special moment. As we had the dessert, the table next to us was clearly celebrating a birthday as well... 4-5 servers came out to sing happy birthday to another guest, which made us feel even more horrible. It was just embarassing and too late to fix the mistake. We got the check and although we left a 20% tip for our server since SHE was great, we were disappointed in the restaurant's oversight of my notes in the reservation.
As I walked my mother-in-law out, I mentioned this to the hostess who seated us, who was standing at the hostess stand. The manager was standing next to her. They both looked up my rsv and the hostess said it was her fault that she did not check the notes. The manager simply shrugged and said sorry, as if the night was over and there was nothing they could do at that point. The dining experience leading up to dessert was really amazing, but once I realized that there was no mention of my mother-in-law's birthday, it just ruined the entire celebratory moment. I believe that the manager could have done something more to make us feel valued, but he chose not to. I have been coming to LS for years because of the consistency in the fresh food and impeccably service but I left this last visit really disappointed.
Staff is friendly and cordial. Food is just not up to the prices charged. French fries, if not from a frozen bag they appear to be. Cole slaw nothing special. Fried clams were, again just OK. Did not appear to be fresh clams [recently shucked] and just coated for the fryer. I would expect several steps up from a Bonefish Grill based on prices charged, but in reality Legal is a step below Bonefish in my opinion.
There were 6 of us. The food and service were excellent, but there was only one round table, and it was occupied by another party. I had made the reservation 5 days in advance and requested a nice table, but we had a regular table, and it made conversation difficult. Also, we drove up to the valet parking, and they told us they had no room to accommodate us, so we had to drive around, finally finding a space at the far end of the parking lot.
My food had a tastel of clorox and was our wedding anniversary...
Mussels was fine, but I didn't have a napkin to clean up our hands
The restaurant was quiet, but the server were gone for long, in the bar was a celebration of the baseball..was a lousy anniversary dinner
It had been a long time since our last visit and while much had stayed the same the prices seemed to have gone up quite a bit. The quality of the food was still good but the soup was lukewarm at best and main courses were also not as hot as we would have liked. Sent the soup back and I think they microwaved it, said something about the mains but didn't bother sending back. They didn't charge for soup.
Went to Legal because of the Oysterfest. Probably naive to believe oysters might be reasonably priced as part of a special promotion. I can spend $3.75 for a Kumamoto oyster at various places during the year without having to wait for Oysterfest. Yes food and service were quite good but value was not a component of the meal.
Having been a longtime Legal Seafood fan ... who doesn't get to visit due to the closure of the LS locations near me and near where I vacation, I was disappointed with this visit. Caeasar salad wasn't very tasty. Grilled Coho Salmon had very little taste and tasted more baked than grilled (no grill marks and no grilled taste). Fish quality was fine and so was the service.
After shopping, my sister and I stopped at Legal Seafood. I had not been at this restaurant in 10 years because of disappointing dishes. Not this time...French fries were made to perfection, steamers, crab cake were excellent.
Our server, Ariana was so pleasant and accommodating. She was very professional and completed our experience.
There was much happiness and satisfaction when we left the restaurant. I will return and tell my friends that Legal Seafood should be on their go-to list for lunch or dinner.
Stopped while traveling to have a nice lunch with good food. Legal Seafood did not disappoint. The fish we ordered was top notch, our drinks (Bloody Mary and Sangria) were delicious, and our toddler's child meal of Fish Sticks (fresh and hand made) were perfect. Only complaint was our waiter was slow and we were one of two tables occupied. Not a major problem but took away from all the goodness....
Have been an avid diner at legal for years
First time i was truly disappointed. Food
Was not up to snuff. Tuna app was dry
Tasted old wifes sea bass also dry and tough
Apps also took long time to arrive
Bread was not brought till asked for
Server did not know what bourbons or vodkas
Available finally i had to suggest he get list
Although he checked in on us felt he really could care less
Usually manager would also check with us
This did not happen and place was not busy
Not sure of issue tonite but not the experience
As always, all aspects of our dinner were perfection.
The way Legal Seafoods prepares lobster is as good as or better than any of the countless dozens (a hundred?) dockside and marina seafood restaurants I've eaten in up and down the Atlantic seaboard from ME to FL for five decades.
Seafood was fresh and delicious.i had been craving a lobster roll and it was perfect (although a bit pricy). Our only problem was with the service. Our entrees arrived before we had finished our appetizers. This took away from what was intended to be a leisurely dinner. Our waiter made frequent stops to see if everything was to our liking. He would ask these questions before we had a chance to taste our food and/or when our mouths were full. The bus staff was also anxious to clear the table before we had completed either course.
Wonderful food. Terrible service. Of the 6 entrees ordered, the server mixed up 4 of them. When asked if the chef would modify a dish, he flatly said no without going to the kitchen to ask.
On a positive note, we were not rushed as we were getting together with family that we don't often see, and everyone drove about 2 hours to meet at a central location.
Ate there with my family of 5 (mom, dad and 3 teenagers). We have all eaten at Legal before but not this location, ironically the closest to our home. Although the restaurant was not very busy, there was noticeable delay just to have server come around for drinks and taking order. Not once (emphasis - not once) during the entire meal did anybody come by to ask if water glasses needed to be refilled, which they did, or if wanted another drink.
The fish (freshness, preparation and taste) was average and my scallops were below average. Not the experience or value we are used to with Legal. The steak filet came out medium rare even though we asked for medium well. We sent it back and by the time it was returned (still not correctly) all others at the table were almost completed with their meal. The manager smartly came by and removed the Steak charge from our bill and that was the right thing to do and much appreciated. But it still underscores the problems.
I grew up in the Boston area and Legal has been a family favorite out of great dining experiences, great food and my New England pride. I have eaten at the Arlington, VA and Warwick, RI along with Boston stores over the years for business as well. This experience at the Paramus Legal was very disappointing and I doubt we will return. And for the record, in my 50 years I have never written a review about a restaurant (or anything else for that matter) until now.
