Legal Sea Foods - Long Wharf
We’ve received a boatload of accolades including “#1 Best Seafood Restaurant” (USA Today, 2013), “Most Popular Boston Restaurant” (Zagat, 2012/2013), “Best Seafood Restaurant” (Improper Bostonian, 2010), “Best Chowder” (Boston Magazine, 2010) and the honor of serving our legendary New England Clam Chowder at every presidential inauguration since 1981.
Friday & Saturday: 11am - 11pm
Service poor. Had to ask other servers to find our waitress even for small issues. We ordered desert and every desert we ordered was not available, although we dined early at 7. Large percentage of our time was spent waiting on our server, looking for our server, then sending another employee to find our server to obtain what we wanted to eat. This clearly put a damper on our meal
Had been excited to eat here. Very disappointed in our lobster. Not meaty, little flavor. I have eaten a lot of lobster and this was not great. Salad so so. Highlight was the King Pao cauliflower. Pricy meal for not much bang.
Delicious food and great service. We had the shrimp cocktail,
Surf and turf and scallops. The sides were excellent also, brown rice, spinach and mashed potatoes.
It took the front staff well over five minutes to even acknowledge that we or anybody else was waiting to check in for a reservation as it took 3 of them to deal with another patron who was having some sort of issue with her reservation. After being seated after our reservation time, the server did not come over to introduce herself or ask about drinks for roughly 10 minutes. She came by twice during the meal and then asked in writing, for a 20% tip on the check. The food was fine but each member of our party were not impressed or wowed by any means. If you are looking for a good seafood dinner in Boston, I would look elsewhere until they can sort out their service issues.
Outstanding service from Courtney who was assigned to us. Very attentive and responsive. She made us very welcomed and was willing to ensure our dining experience was the best possible. We used the Legal Seafood located at the Long Wharf.
Upon arrival our open table reservation was located and we were handed a pager since they "over booked" reservations. We were told we needed to wait up to 15 minutes. After 20 minutes we asked for status and were told they could not find us. After a few more minutes we were finally seated at an uncomfortable table. The waitress was awful. She continued to take our plates away prior to finishing what was on the plates. One order was not correct and had to be sent back. The waitress would not do this for us, she asked the manager to do so. He did and promised to return and he did not. Other seated next to us had there own problems as well. Finally, the waitress disappeared when we wanted our check. When we finally found her, it took more time to get the check and then she disappeared again. VERY DISAPPOINTED.
Wonderful restaurant in excellent location. Enjoyed the clam chowder, mussels & lobster. Did not care for the steamers or the Boston cream pie. Also they did not have any Jamaican (Myers or Appleton) rum.
It was recommended for seafood. I ordered an assortment of scollaps shrimp cod halibut and salmon. It came with spinach and mashed potatoes. I would describe the food as solid, but not special. All of the fish was well cooked but the shrimp a bit over done. The fish was more on the well done side than rare, “done-ness” that would appeal to most the potatoes were wonderful and the spinach was good.
For dessert there was a tart apple dish in a pastry with a brandy sauce topped with ice cream that was very good.
Over all I would say this is a solid seafood restaraunt and I would go again.
The service was outstanding and the waitress was excellent. She suggested several times and we followed her recommendations. The food was fresh, full of flavor and good portions.
Very good lobster & steamers. Tourist pricing. Spotty service. Good menu. Good taste of New England.
Our experience was underwhelming for $200. The service was only ok. The food wasn’t plated well. The fish was fresh, no real sides. Just not as good as it should be
We were on a cruise that stopped in Boston. Having been to Boston many times we decided to have our daughter who lives outside Boston meet us with her date at Legal Seafood. Turns out this was a wonderful stop for our lunch with 10 people.
Lobster rolls were the BEST, great big chunks of lobster.
The fish as always at LSF was excellent, fresh, beautifully prepared, and delicious. I had foreign visitors with me who needed their lobster opened and the server did so promptly and kindly. (I don't eat lobster.) We had a cozy and tasty experience.
We had a party of 6 including a 4 year old. Everything was timely and most were pleased with their meals. Our server, Maria G. was excellent! Very attentive, pleasant and thorough!
Lunch was very pricey. 2 lobster rolls and one glass tea was $ 69
Really tasty compared to other seafood spots.
I had a 30$ lobster roll and it was limp and the bread was soggy like it was made hours ago
Delicious chowder, actually it was all delicious. Would eat there again no question. However the restaurant is quite noisy and things felt a bit overpriced.
Noise level at the max above would not be called energetic, I would call it way too loud. We could not hear each other or the waitress. We got one meal order wrong because of the noise. Otherwise a decent experience.
Service and food were very good. Clam chowder is delicious and a must have appetizer. Swordfish was very good with healthy vegetables. Mixed grill was a generous portion and delicious. My only complaint is the high top table was not the most comfortable, but we were seated without a wait.
Service was great food was excellent. Shannon was very friendly and gave great recommendations
Food was good, but service was sub-standard. It felt like the focus was on turning tables. The hostess was almost surly. The server was pleasant, but we were still eating our first course when the entrees were delivered. To her credit, our server removed the charge for a salad which was left half-eaten. We were seated outside on a very pleasant evening and the restaurant had empty tables, so we surprised that we were being rushed.
This was a most disappointing evening.
Our starters arrived immediately after our drinks... I do not wish to drink a mohito cocktail and eat lobster bisque at the same time.
Our main courses were almost thrown on the table and the plates lacked presentation.
Employees were sweeping up the floor all around us, using their cell phones as torches, whilst we were still eating.
A bar staff person informed a newly arrived group that the bar was open but she wouldn’t bring the drinks to their table. They had to sit at the bar.
This was the MacDonalds of seafood but not cheap.
Great food, service and ambience. Will return sometime soon!!
The food was very good and the service was outstanding. Our server was most attentive and helpful.
As always, our meal at Legal Seafoods was excellent. This time of year, Boston is loaded with cruise ship visitors, and it was nice to see the global mix of people enjoying New England's best.
I was not impressed by this restaurant at all. I have been in another Legal Seafood in NJ that was much better. It was crowded and loud. Service was mixed. Hostess station seemed to be overwhelmed. We had a reservation but arrived early. Still had walk-ins being seated before we were. Food is definitely overpriced. Would not recommend. I think there are other better options in Boston.
Food was Excellent... Our waiter seemed way too busy and we had to get his attention several times for help.
The food is ok, not super.
The service was very slow. We ate around 30-40 mins and waited check for 20 mins to pay.
A good place if you are in Boston for seafood near the harbor front.
Scallops and shrimp was dry and a bit cold, guessing it sat under the hot lamp too long.
Awesome food , great service. Some of the freshest seafood in Boston.
food was fantastic and the service was even better!
Everything was great, but If u have a reservation, they should stick you at a nice table and not at a high table right next to other people. I thought we were way too close to our neighbors.
Our food was delicious - everyone was pleased with their selection. The downside was the “ambiance”....dimming the lights so low you couldn’t read the menu at 6:15pm on a Monday- get real.
Really lessened our enjoyment .
Also some dishes were presented elegantly while others were simply piled on to a regular size dinner plate - What happened?
So oversite of service needs to improve before I will recommend again.
bad experience, I waited 30 min to get raw oysters (because the waitress forgot to place the order). the lobster was full of water.
really bad experience for an expensive restaurant
We sat at the bar. Service was outstanding as was the food!
The seafood casserole was dry and mostly bread crumbs. Used to go to location downtown but the location on the wharf is not what we expected from our previous great meals at the other property. Server was very good and helpful. Appetizers were better than the meal.
Great food and menu.
While the food was good, it was not exceptional by "wharf" standards. We found the crab cakes and seafood casseroles tasty but too "bready" for our expectations. The portions were generous and the waitress (Margaret) was lovely. We were hoping to get a lobster tail but we were surprised to find it not available.
