The signature dish at Legal Sea Foods – really fresh fish.
It’s a scientific fact that seafood is the healthiest protein, so it’s no wonder that Legal Sea Foods located nearby MIT and a whole catch of biotech office buildings in Kendall Square would be such a popular lure. Our restaurant, steps from the Marriott Hotel and convenient to Cambridgeside Galleria shopping and the Museum of Science, reels in residents and tourists alike.

We’ve received a boatload of accolades including “#1 Best Seafood Restaurant” (USA Today, 2013), “Most Popular Boston Restaurant” (Zagat, 2012/2013), “Best Seafood Restaurant” (Improper Bostonian, 2010), “Best Chowder” (Boston Magazine, 2010) and the honor of serving our legendary New England Clam Chowder at every presidential inauguration since 1981.

I was seated right away. The server was able to recommend something really quick and it really hit the spot. Stayed for dessert even though I was stuffed because the food was so good I just wanted to keep eating. I would totally come here again

In the past I've not been all that impressed with your crabcakes. Last night they were up several notches - in the ballpark of the best I've ever had which are at G&M Restaurant in Linthicum Heights, Md. I'd order them again.

Three of the four of us had a mix of grilled fish and thought we maybe should have selected an individual fish like our fourth friend who really enjoyed his dinner. As it was, it seemed a little pricey, but we had a great server in the lounge area. Other experiences at Legals have always had us returning so we'll just forget about this trip.

Great service. The seafood is always great. Exterior under construction was the only negative.

Expected and received very good food and service. Enjoyed a reunion lunch with old friend and did not feel rushed to leave.
Hard to find restaurant especially with construction, would help if advertising said corner of Ames and Main.

Legal's is always great, always improving, certainly the standard of excellence for seafood. Some tables are in an unbearably noisy area, others are quiet.

Our waiter was a highlight of our meal- jovial, charming, and funny - he also lent us his considerable knowledge of wine to help us with our wine selection. Our food came out rather slowly, but I think this was done completely on purpose so that we could truly savor our time together for Thanksgiving Day in a leisurely way, mimicking the kind of time we would have spent together at home, which is hard to do in a restaurant setting. We felt like we had our little corner to ourselves, and we were given ample time to figure out our orders (which it took us some time to do!). The food was excellent, especially the desserts. (I highly recommend that warm chocolate pudding cake!) Thank you for making our Thanksgiving so easy and pleasurable.

Our service was very disappointing, which was surprising since the restaurant wasn't terribly crowded and especially unfortunate since we had a baby with us.

I go here about once a month, since the location is close to work. On this occasion, my lunchmate and I had a narrow window for lunch and told our server. He was so great about getting our food to us quickly, so that we could leave on time. Great location and great food!

there was a stench.. smelled like fetid water or serious plumbing issues.
we asked to be moved closer to the door. my friend's caesar salad was rather pathetic
a heap of lettuce top by some tired croutons. her chowder was tasteless and lacking in clams.
after mining the bowl, she managed to find two clams. my cioppino was good--
actually much improved... a decent portion, sufficient broth and it was (miraculously) hot.
little necks were passable. waiter was professional, attentive and pleasant.

For these prices I expected much better food. The calamari was chewy and bland, the salmon was dry and tasteless, and everything else just tasted like the butter it had been bathed in.

Food was "OK", not as good as we expected. We understand they are busy on Saturday evening, but our drinks came late. The restaurant is not good for special occasions.

The service was impeccable. We constantly had servers coming to check in us to see if everything was alright. You seriously cannot beat the seafood here. I ordered the rainbow trout and my friend ordered the bluefish. We were both extremely satisfied at how delicious everything was. Overall, good experience.

Mixed feelings about lunch at this location. The restaurant was very noisy and our server did not reappear until the end of our meal (completely forgetting the knife requested when the order was taken). Perhaps both of these were due to the fact that the retaurant was busy and completely full? The crabmeat roll is not a good choice.
On the positive side, the clam chowder was excellent, as were the rolls, the fish and chips, and crab cake sandwich. Might be worth trying again at a less busy time.

Legal Sea Foods are the same just about everywhere you go. I got a Shrimp salad, it was fine, I couldn't eat all of it. Kind of expensive though for a salad, even if it does have shrimp on it. I've always liked the New England Clam Chowder. In my opinion, there are just not enough shellfish dishes to choose from, but there is plenty of fish filet options. We went here for lunch, I personally like this restaurant more for dinner when you're up for eating a bigger meal.
