About Legal Sea Foods - Kendall Square
The signature dish at Legal Sea Foods – really fresh fish.
It’s a scientific fact that seafood is the healthiest protein, so it’s no wonder that Legal Sea Foods located nearby MIT and a whole catch of biotech office buildings in Kendall Square would be such a popular lure. Our restaurant, steps from the Marriott Hotel and convenient to Cambridgeside Galleria shopping and the Museum of Science, reels in residents and tourists alike.
We’ve received a boatload of accolades including “#1 Best Seafood Restaurant” (USA Today, 2013), “Most Popular Boston Restaurant” (Zagat, 2012/2013), “Best Seafood Restaurant” (Improper Bostonian, 2010), “Best Chowder” (Boston Magazine, 2010) and the honor of serving our legendary New England Clam Chowder at every presidential inauguration since 1981.

Legal Sea Foods - Kendall Square Ratings and Reviews
Local Sea Foods was very good, not quite what I expected but very good all the same. The food tasted good and was well presented. Our server was professional, timely and courteous. The selection of beer was good as well included lots of domestic and imported selections including Chimay which can be challenging to find in most places.
All in all it was a very nice business evening dinner with my colleague.
Got the grilled assortment and it was amazing. Despite having a slightly charred exterior, the fish melted in my mouth and tasted absolutely delicious. I'd give 5 stars for the food, but the side dishes (I got broccoli and fries) were larger in portion to the actual entree and seemed to be a bit of a waste since the entree was filling enough and the tastes of the side dishes were nothing special (of course, I did get broccoli and fries, but my boyfriend felt the same about this onion rings and mashed potatoes).
Legal is Legal. We have so many in the boston area that it is hard to distinguish among them. Food is always good- never brilliant- but reliably good. With wine and a main course can be a bit pricey. Service tends to be always good. Noise level in most quite fine. Sometimes when it's really convenient or easy to park or you just want a plain piece of fish, it is a good place to go.
I love legal seafood, but was disappointed in the sparseness of my fisherman's platter which had an abundance of fried calimari and lacked abundance of other seafood! It was so disappointing.
Also, wish to mention that the busboy cleaned the table next to us by putting the tub on the table...it was disconcerting, surely the dishes can be carried to the tub placed elsewhere.
If this is policy, it must change. I have waitressed, and we would NEVER allow the customer to have to deal with such things!
My go-to place when I have business in the Cambridge area. And they are very accommodating - one of the guests has a shellfish allergy that I didn't know, but when the restaurant was informed, they were very careful to cook her salmon in a pan that did not touch shellfish previously.
Years ago when my office was located across the street from Legal, I ordered the "Seafood Casserole" often, used to base other restaurants on this particular dish. This past Friday the casserole was overcook, dried and burnt. The manager came by and saw my unhappiness with the casserole, and agreed that the dish was overcooked. Another was ordered and brought to me. The attempt to satisfied me with another re-do on the casserole, it was appreciated. But the re ordered dish wasn't great at all, good. The seafood was cooked perfectly, the breadcrumb was under cooked and it was heavily buttered and way to much oil.
We've been dining at Legal Sea Food for nearly it's entire 49 year run. Although we no longer live nearby, we are frequent visitors to family and community gatherings in the area and often get to Legal's when in town. It never disappoints. The food is always excellent, the wine list is good, and our server was personable and knowledgeable.
