Legal Sea Foods began in 1950 as a fish market in the Inman Square neighborhood of Cambridge, Massachusetts. It’s here that the “Legal” name became synonymous with quality and freshness. In 1968, our first seafood restaurant opened, right next to the fish market. The fish was simply prepared, either broiled or fried, and served on paper plates at communal picnic tables. Despite the low-key trappings, the food was second to none and word quickly spread. This early success led to further expansion and now, six decades later with restaurants along the Eastern Seaboard, the commitment to freshness and quality endures: "If it isn't fresh, it isn't Legal!”

We loved the service but were very disappointed that the menu had been changed so dramatically. We used to love the Asian influenced food choices and now it’s more of a regular legal seafoods menu.

We went there in June and ordered the chowder, and calamari and mussel appetizers. We loved it so much that we came back and ordered it again. The quality was excellent but the portion size was quite a bit smaller. I guess that is just the way it is these days.

While it was overall a nice experience the shellfish (scallops and shrimp) were both over cooked. On the other hand the salmon was delicious.This inconsistency is disappointing given the nature of the restaurant. We’ve been to other locations and had better. Maybe it’s a fluke.

I thought we were going to the original Legal Seafood but this was a sad, mostly empty outpost. The ambiance was non-existent, and while the service was reasonable attentive, dirty plates and empty cocktail glasses sat on our table throughout the meal. And if I am spending over $200 for lunch for two I recommend offering fresh cutlery for the entree rather than fishing the dirty forks off of an appetizer plate and dumping them back onto our bread plates. Honestly, we could have had this dining experience at the airport.

Most often, any restaurant (no matter how good) that evolves into a “chain” eventually descends into culinary purgatory. Accordingly, we anticipated that our visit to Legal Sea Foods would be unremarkable and uninspired. This restaurant far exceeded our expectations on every level. The atmosphere was modern, warm, and inviting. Service was efficient, professional, and friendly. The food was excellent. Cod Fritters were an epiphany of flavor – don’t be put off by the “salt cod” in the description. Legal Sea Foods knows how to prepare this appetizer to emphasize its mild but savory flavor and apparently has perfected the soaking process to leave only a bare hint of salinity. Tuna Poke featured large chunks of raw tuna in an Asian/Mexican fusion, served with taro chips – delicious. The wedge salad was fresh and tasty enough to win over even the most anti-iceberg lettuce among us. Grilled Sea Scallops were moist and succulent, served with a nuanced lemon-butter sauce. Ignore any hesitancy and go to Legal Sea Foods. This is what dining is meant to be.

Second time in a row they didn’t get the order right. We stressed up front that it was messed up the last time. The request was that the lobster meat and dressing come on the side of the salad. Nope. They ignored it again and mixed it all up with too much dressing. Great food and location. But terrible with attention to detail.

Food was great, though I was expecting it to be a little more spectacular, being in the New England area. Service was pretty good. Waitress was great but hostess acted like she had 2 words in her entire vocabulary and couldn’t be bothered. Shouldn’t that the be the friendliest member of your staff? The noise level was extreme, we were seated next to a table of about 12 very vocal men but that’s not the restaurant’s fault. Overall it was good, and I did enjoy my shrimp scampi and lobster bisque.

Great option for a convenient and quick dinner before going to the Opera House for a show. We were able to get in and out very quickly and server definitely understood the mission of making show in time! A more expensive menu for something like this, however. Wish they had some more mid range priced items between chowder or salad and $35 fish. Chowder is sooo good here.

We were impressed by our entire experience at Legal. Our waiter was good and attentive, the appetizers (cod fritters and clam chowder) were delicious, the entrees were cooked perfectly and was served hot and fresh. Really enjoyed our window seat so we could enjoy our meal and people watch. Definitely would visit again.

We brought our 2 dogs and sat outside. Our server was very accommodating with no complaints. Food was VERY good! I had the lobster roll which was incredible and my boyfriend had the tacos that he really enjoyed. Upon arrival we thought it was going to be insanely expensive and a little too high end for what we were dressed for but it was a great value for money I definitely recommend it.

We had dinner and drinks at Legal Crossing before a show at the opera house. We started with and cup of clam chowder. For our entrees, I had the crab cake combo that included shrimp, scallops, a crab cake, rice and a small salad and my wife had the lobster mac and cheese. All of our food was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious.
