New England Clam Chowder
Half Pound Maine Lobster Roll**
warm butter-poached or traditional with lemon mayo, french fries & coleslaw
Grilled Swordfish Steak**
Castelvetrano olive tomato-caper relish, smashed Yukon potatoes with garlic butter
Friendly, attentive service but we were disappointed when the waitress told us they were out of oysters, fried clams, swordfish and large lobsters. The table nextdoor remarked this had been going on for a bit. If that’s the case, I suggest they mention this when reservations are made. I understand things are tough and different with COVID but this is a seafood place. Have seafood!
The food and service were good. However, the "New" menu is uninspiring. They no longer offer dishes that reflect their location in Boston. Their menu can be found in any generic restaurant in the country. Not much imagination. This new ownership has revealed why we will miss the old Legals.
The lobster roll was excellent! And the clam chowder was delicious!
Renee Dinocco went above and beyond. We were not at one of her tables, but she knew our server was not yet available, so she took our drink and appetizer orders to get us started until he arrived.
Service and food were outstanding. We are at the bar and had a great time before the big game between the Sox & Yankees.
Everything’s good there except we’ve always hated the black black black decor.
We ordered Tuna Steaks from Test Kitchen (2 of the 4 meals). There were three medallion pieces, which was not enough for an entree.
Also there was no bread provided and no spoon provided for coconut liquid.
We enjoyed the lively, casual setting and the appetizers, especially the littlenecks on the half shell and the clam stuffies. The dinner portion of fried clams was a bit tasteless and greasy. Would probably try something else next time.
Nice dinner...great martini's and fresh oysters.
Excellent food, attentive service, a little pricey but that's the cost of freshness!
Great service, great food and great place. My wife and I hand a wonderful time.
Always a great experience at this location. Taryn our server was wonderful. Slightly different menu than a typical Legal, includes some of their Legal Test Kitchen options.
Wanted to try the Local Sea Food. The location of the restaurant is very convenient to the Lafayette Parking Garage. The host that seated us was not that engaging. Our waitress did a good job. I have had better waitresses, however, she was friendly and provided good service. The food was good. The appetizers were pretty good. Calamari was delicious. The Korean Cauliflower was OK--We have had better. The seafood platters were excellent. Great portions of food and great flavor profile. Overall good experience. I will definitely eat at a Local Sea Food again; however, I may try another location in Boston to see if the overall level of service and ambiance is improved. Glad to try something different. The leftovers were plenty and reheated very well.
Chowder and calamari was excellent. Scallops a bit overdone. Still very good and would go back!
Everything was amazing from the bar to our table at dinner. Great service, delicious food, and love the ambiance. We will be back on our next visit to Boston.
Great place and friendly service!
Overall, the food was average. Their lobster Mac and cheese was a fun presentation. Waiter wasn’t very attentive. Didn’t offer water after being sat, when he would come to the table barely acknowledged us. Didn’t even say thank you when dropping off the check. Could definitely work on waiter etiquette.
A bit dark and we were seated near a prep table. Thumbs down on ambiance, but all else was great
All was very good until I ordered a meal to go. The baked haddock was fine except it did not come with the rice as advertised. Therefore I only received half the meal.
I had not been to this restaurant for a while as the previous two visits were disappointing.
I won’t be back unless I am with someone who specifically requests going here and then I will only order a drink-no food!
Wonderful staff! Friendly and welcoming. I will definitely return.
The food was amazing. Highly recommend the baked lobster.
Even though they were out of the whole belly clams, the swordfish and calamari were excellent and the oysters Rockefeller were outstanding (definitely order two!). And, by all means, don't forget their marvelous Boston cream pie (ask for a little extra chocolate sauce) for a perfect ending. The wait staff is as good as the food--very service-oriented.
Excellent waitress, Meagan ! So patient and astute and polite!
Service was great
Definitely a big step down from many previous visits. Crab cake appetizer was over-cooked (burnt on bottom). After asking for salt 2 different times and being given empty salt shakers, I gave up. Restaurant was not busy on a Friday evening, now I’m not surprised.
Amazing food and great service! I will definitely be back when I visit Boston again.
I worked at one of the original Legal Seafoods in 1980. The job was so hard but that was because the standards were so high for food and service.
The food here was pretty good, and the service was good but the ambience and energy are nothing like they used to be. It felt dark and flat.
The sourdough rolls with butter are great, as is the house salad. My husband had the crabcake, shrimp and scallop platter and that was good. I had the crab cocktail which was OK, the crab wasn’t really flavorful. The steamed broccoli was very overdone.
I understand Roger Berkowitz had to sell during the pandemic. I probably will not go back, preferring to leave my memories of the outstanding place it once was.
Not the same of some years ago. Food was normal, the place was very unorganized (tables with boxes on top and tidy), slow service, etc.
Good service great food fresh food and very clean
I get that it was Father’s Day, but the portion size and food quality was unbelievable! Burnt lobster, half of a crab cake, and dry scallops. The chef clearly didn’t want to be at work and waiters ignored you the entire time. When it was finally time for the check, it took about 25 minutes for a waiter to notice that we were ready to go despite our attempts to wave them down.
Service was lacking. Food was okay. We wouldn’t go back.
The front of house was fairly accommodating.
Food was fine--I wouldn't say it was anything special.
The more disappointing this was that they forgot two of our dishes but charged us anyway, and we didn't catch until we were back home in Connecticut.
When you have to talk to the manager, that is not a good meal. I empathize with servers, staff, and cooks. It is tough to deliver good dining.
The grilled fish was blackened and overcooked. The replacement was the same way. Whenever food is sent back to the kitchen and it comes out the same way, something isn’t right. Perhaps the staff needs to communicate better with the patron how the dish is cooked and suggest alternatives.
Salads were fresh and large. The balsamic vinegar had little taste. Mussels were good. Fried fish platter was OK. 60 seconds less cooking would have been better.
Drinks were excellent.
Server seemed to be too busy. We didn’t get a second round of bread we asked for and no one checked our water glasses.
In the end the manager did the right thing although I wish she didn’t have to. Good food without any problem is my preference.
Perfect everything !
This restaurant needs to work on their systems. Maybe they were just really understaffed. Disappointing especially for the price. Service was not good. Slow and poorly timed. Sat with empty glasses for 10-15 minutes before anyone noticed—wine glasses too. Shrimp and scallops over cooked. Appetizers (stuffies) we’re good. Chowder was pretty good. I feel, in general, it was overpriced and it under delivered.
Great food, excellent service and a quiet place to relax and have a great meal. Proportions were generous. Glass of wine was large.
Will go back often. Price was as expected.
The seafood cioppino was very good - broth and seafood!
Excellent food and service
Great ambiance, location, service.
