Legal Sea Foods - Copley Place Ratings and Reviews
We wished we lived in Boston to come here often. Stopped in two evenings in a row and ordered different items each time. None disappointed. Superb chowder. If you’re there for the first time, order the plate with three kinds of grilled fish, shrimp, scallops and two sides.
My friend ordered the Alaskan King Crabs legs for $46.00. It came with one leg and several claws. She asked if she could get just the legs, as it was a very expensive meal, and she greatly preferred the taste of leg meat. It was also advertised as being "King Crab legs". The waitress was unable to get it switched out, so we asked for a manager. The manager also refused to do anything. We were almost finished eating at this point, but we asked them for a different entree, which came after the other two at the table had already finished eating. As compared to other Legal Seafood locations, I felt this one was loud, crowded, and that for all the money they make, and for how much they charged for the meal, they could have accommodated this request.
Unfortunately almost everything that could go wrong, did.Sat night dinner reservation for 6:15. Main courses not served until 7:40, in part because starter-bisque came after runners tried to deliver dinners. Starter salad served with walnuts (never asked re nuts and waitperson did not ask about allergies.)Asked if salad could come back quickly w/out nuts. They assured that it would, but it did not. Long wait for nutfree salad.
Our table declined entrees prepared without receiving starters first (A companion wanted to enjoy hot bisque, then hot lobster, imagine that).
Shortly thereafter a manager came to inform they were keeping our meals warm and would we accept them now if they gave us a discount on meal. Quid Pro Quo? Really? How about getting the order right or speedily recovering rather than asking us to take a discount and shut up?
It became clear that our party would not receive our food in time to enjoy the meal and make 8 PM Theater.
When the four fresh entrees finally did arrive, 20 minutes before the curtain at Theater a) the person who wanted baked stuffed lobster after bisque never received the implements with which one eats lobster. Given time constraints, he dug in without the ‘cracker’ for lobster claws - a mess on his shirt, diminishing any remaining chance of enjoying this meal.
b) Surprise! A member of our party received the ‘rice bowl’ having ordered, as offered, w/salmon (rare), but instead was served tuna sashimi rather than salmon & no rice (a RICE BOWL)?
Mgr. not taking responsibility (write off the whole table as loss,
but what about our experience) & had no words when observed tuna, not salmon w/out rice. Mgr did take cost of rice entree off bill, then only $25 off for inconvenience. A gift certificate for the cost of the meal with a sincere invitation to come back another time and give them a chance to redeem themselves would have been more satisfying.
Most members of our party had to leave without finishing. A disaster.
We dined at Legal two nights in a row this weekend, as we were at the Westin for a conference. The restaurant was crowded both evenings -- Friday and Saturday nights -- but we were able to make an Open Table reservation within hours of our arrival. Not only was the fish typically perfect in its preparation, but the staff was charming and attentive without hovering, and the noise level was such that we could actually talk. Legal has always been a favorite, but rose on our list of reliable go-to's for any occasion. We had the grilled medley and salmon the first night, and lobster bisque / grilled shrimp the second. The chocolate molten cake was spectacular.
Wife and I met friends from out of town for dinner. Have dined frequently at various Legal Seafood locations including the original in Inman Square in Cambridge.
Table was ready on time, service was prompt and attentive. Food was great, the only issue was suddenly the place got very cold, to the point where both women had to put their coats on! Apparently someone had complained it was too warm and the staff turned on the air conditioning!
We arrived 20 minutes prior to our reservation and were seated immediately. Our waiter was attentive and very helpful with my wife's dietary restrictions. The manager brought my wife's food to her, stating that the Chef had validated that the restrictions were adhered to. The food was very tasty and cooked to order. The portions were quite sufficient, and in fact we had to take some home. The wine list had a decent selection, and the bottle prices were decent for a restaurant. Overall, it was a very good dining experience.
Legal Seafood is a restaurant chain that has consistently good food and isn't exorbitantly priced but it's also not cheap. At this particular location (Copley Place) the service was outstanding. It is unlikely that you could go to any location of of Legal Seafood and have a "quiet conversation" as the noise level is nearly always high.
Went with son, daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren aged 1 and 3. Had to ask twice for bread for kids. Took forever for appetizers to arrive, and main courses hit the table before we were 1/2 done with appetizers. We're not offered refills on beer - had to ask. Waitperson was in the weeds and never got out. Won't return to this location - have been a LS customer for 20 years. Too bad
My visit to the Copley Place location was the first disappointment I've had in many visits to various Legal Seafood locations. The atmosphere seemed a little hectic (it was early Saturday evening), and I got less attention from my official waiter than I did from the several colleagues of his I flagged down with this request or that. He was remarkably inattentive. And I had to send my medium-rare tuna back to the kitchen because it was cold-in-the-center rare--and when it returned it lacked the crabmeat that was supposed to top it. I waited forever, it seemed, for my first glass of wine to arrive, and then had another wait after I'd finished it before I had the opportunity to ask for a second. I left the restaurant feeling disgruntled at having spent a not insignificant sum on a disappointing meal.
We usually go to other Legal Sea Foods but happened to be nearby. The service was not very good. Our chowder arrived halfway through our entrees, and we had to ask two different servers if they had just forgotten our chowder. We ordered salads with light dressing, each came soaked through with dressing. Our server was mia for most of the meal and we had to continually flag other servers for help. The kids fish of the day meal was average, with salmon overly cooked. Would not recommend this location
