Legal Sea Foods - Copley Place
We know shopping induces hunger. Our restaurant is located on the upper level of Copley Place, with direct indoor access to both the Westin and Marriott hotels as well as to the Prudential Center. Panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows overlook Boston’s historic South End.
We’ve received a boatload of accolades including “#1 Best Seafood Restaurant” (USA Today, 2013), “Most Popular Boston Restaurant” (Zagat, 2012/2013), “Best Seafood Restaurant” (Improper Bostonian, 2010), “Best Chowder” (Boston Magazine, 2010) and the honor of serving our legendary New England Clam Chowder at every presidential inauguration since 1981.

Only the coffee was disappointing. Everything else was top notch. Our waitress, Morgan, was absolutely terrific.
Great service and even better food. The Clam Chowder was simply the best!
The fish was ordered medium rare and was a bit overcooked.
I was here to enjoy my birthday with friends. The fire alarm was set off or pulled in Copley. We had to leave the restaurant with no guidance or idea when we will be back to eat. My lobster became cold. Restaurant patrons skipped out on their tabs. There need to be security in the hallway between Pru and Copley place. It seems like a fire every month said the waitress. Lost revenue and wasted food. Otherwise it is was perfect!
An alarm triggered and the entire restaurant evacuated. Communication was poor and staff did not explain anything despite having an alarm the night before.
Special birthday the food was perfect
The server Raleigh was really the best server.
If I could have given the service a six, I would have! Beamer was terrific. She saw my daughter struggling with her lobster, returned with gloves on, and cracked the two lobsters for her! Wonderful service!
Service was very good given that the place was packed.
Great service from waitress.
Long time Legal fan. Miss your Pru location. It was our “go to” spot before Symphony.
No need to recommend Legal to friends/associates. It’s a well known “ given” that LegalconsistentLy offers a high quality menu.
Convenient location to Symphony Hall, good service, good food. Had an enjoyable evening.
Great food and service!
Great service and delicious food. I wish the menu had the options to select your sides vs. the predetermined ones, however.
This location is in a mall. I think this likely affected the ambiance of the place. It was also huge and it that busy. Out waiter was very nice and great with wine suggestions. The clam chowder was excellent. The lobster bisque had a decent amount of lobster meat on top. The mains were fine, but nothing outstanding, so all in all it was decent.
Our server was great. Thank you Karen she had great recommendations was very attentive and personable.
Congenial meet and seat. Waiter - although pleasant was not very attentive. We all ordered soup - it was an extraordinarily long wait for it. When it arrived it was less than hot. We were not even halfway through our soup course- and our dinners arrived. Not acceptable. French fries were cold, my spinach was lukewarm. The shrimp
Dish was over baked.
The restaurant was not at all full. There was an abundance of staff.
When we d finished our meal I visited the bathroom. It was absolutely filthy. If the bathroom
Is this dirty, I cannot imagine how filthy the kitchen may be.
I would not return to this location, nor recommend this to anyone. I did tell the manager, about our experience. She offered nothing but an apology. Said she d attend to the issues.
I’ve been a legal seafood customer since it’s humble beginnings in Inman square, Cambridge. In the 1970 s. I’ve been to many locAtions over the years ; unfortunately this dinner was a disappointment.
I can't recall who our waitress was but she was fantastic! Witty, attentive and very nice.
Loyal customer. Disappointing for Legal..Server not trained well..no steak knife for a filet and no clean up wipes for lobster. $48 for 1.50 lbs lobster no choice for sides. Broccoli and over cooked potatoes...Disappointing to say the least.
We had a reservation and were seated promptly though waited a couple of minutes because the second hostess chose to stand at the podium and not assist us. The service is not fine dining level but it’s ok. The food portions are hearty. I personally feel legal’s should mix up their menu- it’s a little stale. Normally I can’t decide what to order at a good seafood restaurant- at legals I tend to struggle with what to order and they never seem to have specials.
They weren’t too busy. The service was good.
Food was good.
Great meal and outstanding service by Christian are server. Was Valentines night was very busy. He constantly checked on us to see if we needed anything. Was also very sincere not fake like some servers we had in the past.
The food was just delicious!! Great service, too!
Excellent food. We just love it. We will definitely return to your restaurant. Thanks very much. Best regards Michel
Had a business meeting here over lunch. There were 5 of us. The staff was attentive, but not disruptive. The food was delicious. The atmosphere was friendly. It was quiet enough that we could easily hear one another during our discussion, but there was background music, so it didn't feel like anyone outside our party was listening in. Overall, a very positive experience.
Very engaged waitperson initially and then was not attentive. Had to find someone for water and looked for her to get bill. Restaurants was empty.
Has diner at park square night before. Also service not great but they were very busy at bar.. it was Saturday night. Very slow to bring lemon for fish??? Should be standard for trout!
Been here a number of times and very likely to visit again. Good food
We made a reservation a week in advance for a 16th Birthday. The service from the beginning was not great and it was not that busy. We poured our own water since we were a large party crammed into the booth next to the water station. We waited 10 minutes before seeing our server which is why we poured our own water. A women with a headset noticed and came to take it away. When our food was delivered, a simple Caesar salad was missing for another 7-8 minutes which delayed us eating. Missing utensils that were removed with bread plates never replaced. Coffee coming after dessert which then my mother asked for a Togo cup and they poured it into a kids cup. The staff all seemed to be very inexperienced and I felt like we could’ve been at Applebee’s.
We’ve been to Legals many times and the other locations in Boston definitely have a different feel and level of service. We were staying at the Westin and that’s why we chose this one. Also- need a couple more choices on menu for the non seafood eaters. Filet and a chicken are not enough. At least offer a pasta dish or a great burger.
I would not recommend for special occasions.
My wife Ana and I dined at Legal Seafoods located in Copley Place Boston on Friday, 1/31. We Enjoyed every minute! Our server Lukas K. Was Excellent In all aspects of the service he provided for our meals ! The food was delicious as were the beverages and the dessert! We Had a Wonderful Experience!
I've been going to Legal Seafoods since they first opened. There are now at least 9 Legal locations so you you figure they are doing something pretty special. My most recent visit was for lunch with a friend from Vermont. We met at the Legal Seafoods in Copley Place and had a delicious lunch in every respect. She ordered a lobster roll, light on the Mayo, and it came perfectly prepared: lots of juicy lobster meat unobstructed by too much vegetation. I had a Caesar salad with crab meat and it too was a beautifully balanced salad, fresh and inviting. The waitstaff could not have been more pleasant. We sat at table for some time after the meal, joined by a friend, and there was no feeling of being hurried. The restaurant was busy but quiet enough for easy conversation. I cant think of an improvement. Expensive, somewhat, but not considering what we had ordered. Go Legal!
Food was cold and poorly prepared. Noit a good value at all. Will not be going back
I feel there are many other venues in the city with comparable prices and quality of food that offer much better ambiance.
Great , delicious, romantic
Very good food. Very pleasant server.
Good overall. Food was fresh. Service polite and attentive.
Good lunchtime meeting place. Usually not busy. Staff nice. Food good but not a great value.
The reason I rated the overall restaurant low is due to the fact the receptionist at the entrance did not give us a round table as requested. There were many round tables empty that remained empty during the night, a Tuesday night. The personnel at the entrance was very unfriendly and did not want to accommodate a customer’s request.
Great oysters to start and the buttery lobster roll was beyond delicious!
The food was absolutely perfect! Best NY Eve dinner me & my finance could have asked for!!
New year eve
