All 3 of us ordered steamers and all 3 got sick??? Server and server in training were great.
Very busy and loud on Saturday evening.
Food tastedwell. Reccomend crab cakes.
waitress was most friendly, professional and personable and attentive to our needs as we needed to rush to leave for a concert at the end of our meal and we were most appreciative!
As usual, the food was outstanding, but pricey. Mussels appetizer was delicious, plentiful, and very garlicky. Halibut steak was wonderful. Carrot cake portion size was not too generous.
A refreshing contrast to our meal in February. Our waitstaff was attentive, skilled, and focused on providing a complete experience for our party. The meal was delicious as expected.
My waiter Tony was fantastic. He was perfectly attentive and saw that my friend and I were enjoying a leisurely meal and perfectly timed out food. The manager Courtney was lovely as well checking on our food and ensuring that I did not eat anything with gluten as I have an allergy.
Enjoyable, with friendly service, tasty food (though the lobster wasn't the quality 'sweet, tender' flavour have had with lobsters from Nova Scotia). Oysters were delicious! Should have had more!
I had my post (very wet and chilly) Boston Marathon dinner here. We sat at the bar, the bartenders were excellent. They all work really well together! I’ll be going back for sure.
Everyone was great & worked hard to make our post-Marathon celebration a treat. Thank you!
Ordered the crab cake combo and it was delicious. Very enjoyable meal.
We went there after the Boston Marathon to celebrate. Dinner was delicious, and everything was great. We were late for our reservation due to an Uber issue and the restaurant was packed, but they were incredibly accommodating and got us seated quickly. Our table also had a very nice view of the city, which was an unexpected plus. Great experience all-around.
Always prompt service, lively atmosphere & great seafood!
Management must control loud and inappropriate customers! Our experience was interrupted numerous times with diners getting up, loud inappropriate language, frequent outbursts of yelling etc. A disgusting experience! Sometimes the customer is wrong!!!
One of the best kept secret Legal Seafood locations, the Copley square iteration is usually not too crowded and they have some really nice views of the city. Of course the food lives up to the chain's reputation, which is to say: quite good.
Thanks for our lovely birthday celebration at 79! We loved the bonbons! We’ll return next year for Friday nite of the BAA weekend!
Excellent food in a nice environment.
Would recommend to friends.
I had a business luncheon for 15 people. Although the food experiences varied, the service was unbelievable. Tom was efficient, helpful and had a real "can do" attitude, as did all of the employees we encountered. I wouldn't hesitate to hold another lunch meeting at this restaurant.
Legal seafood is like Boston's oxygen tent. Where anyone can become a temporary New Englander. Even the fish are friendly! Its wicked awesome.
Grilled haddock fish was very meh. I can prepare fish better. I ended up eating so many rolls as I was hungry and food was not great. We set a reservation and a table was not ready for 15 min. later. Place smells like the 1990’s and toilet paper dispenser didn’t work in bathroom. Do not wish to return.
Every trip to Boston includes a dinner at Legal! Our favorite is the bake stuffed lobster! Amazing!
Very good experience
Read about this place in a travel guide. Total chain. Busy but not good. Thin and weak clam chowder, crab cakes and oysters just ok.
This place deserves every bit of its icon-status reputation. Every bite, from the local oysters to the local lobster who did not give his life in vain, was superb and their recommended Albariño wine pairing was spot on. And the service was exceptional.
Had friends visiting from Alabama.
Server was mediocre.
What has happened to the superb service?
Overpriced and underserved.
Service was great. Food was great. Had a hard time finding it because no where online mentions that it is in a mall
I had to push back my reservation a few times, because the tour we were on was running late. The restaurant had no issues accommodating us and we were seated immediately, even though the restaurant was clearly busy. We had a beautiful view of the sun going down over the south end. Our server, Karen, was super sweet and attentive and was quick to recommend dishes to try and drinks to pair it with. One of our party was not from the area, so this was super helpful. We had two different managers stop by and talk to our table. They were all so lovely. I would definitely come back here again!
Good product (food) though dated interior... seems like the restaurant needs to reinvent itself
Like any Legal Seafood, the good is amazing. This location is inside a mall so a bit hard to find.
We have not been to legal seafoods for many years and have always raved about how good it was. We promised to return when we next went to Boston. Fast forward to this weekend when I surprised my wife with a weekend in Boston. Top of the list was a visit to legal again. We always remembered the great service with really enthusiastic and charismatic servers who enthused over the food with all the details. Sadly that has all gone. Menu given but no suggestions, no specials no overwhelming passion for the food and great service.
The food when arrived was just mediocre, I guess that’s why they weren’t enthusiastic or passionate about it.
Oh well that is a bubble burst and we will have to find another restaurant we can call great.
Sorry Legal you have changed too much
We had an outstanding dinner! The seafood is incredibly fresh and tasty. Our waiter was friendly, knowledgable about the menu, energetic and attentive. We had a 7:00 reservation and were seated promptly at 7:00. It is a lively and fun atmosphere and everyone around us seemed to enjoy their experience there as well. We will return for sure the next time we're in Boston!
Seafood was decent, but extremely overpriced for the quality and taste. Our server was almost rude. We constantly were waiting for her and it wasn’t that busy. My salad was hot - as if it had been under a heat lamp.
Excellent Lobster Bisque and foods are prepared fresh. Excellent service.
I only gave 3 stars because we were handed the daily special menu by waitress but then found out that the cocktail, entree, and dessert we wanted off that menu were all out! I’d rather they didn’t provide us that special menu in that case. Also annoying was fact that up front we were not told of all the unavailable items, so at each juncture of our meal we were again disappointed. Our waitress laughed it off saying it was Sunday!
Legal Sea Foods is an excellent seafood choice in Boston. I always stop at this restaurant when in town.
Delicious, fresh seafood. Legal is always a safe bet. Prices are a bit high, but that's the nature of seafood. The staff was attentive, the food was excellent, in fact, I tried a fish I'd never had before, skrei. It's a seasonal varienty of cod. Very nice.
The meal met our expectations in most ways: the char was notable and the service quite good. It exceeded our expectations in a couple of ways: the trout presentation was impressive, and the staff managed a food allergy with grace. Vegetarian options are limited, though the Kung Pao tofu bowl filled the need.
Legal Seafoods provides the freshest and best tasting seafood in Boston and at all of their select locations across the country. Their raw bar features the best local shellfish, and you know that it came from the sea within the past 24 hours. It's location on the 2nd floor of Copley Place provides a central Boston location, and one that is easy to drive to and park. It is also easy to get to via public transportation as it sits close to two subway lines. I had the grilled shrimp which was perfectly cooked accompanied by mashed potatoes and the nightly vegetable. They also serve my favorite wine by the glass - Sancerre - which is not frequently available except by the bottle. All in all, an impressive menu and very good service. This is my go to restaurant when in Boston. Thank you to the staff and management at LS for the wonderful dinner!
Great service, I love this restaurant! Would highly recommend this location and restaurant to others!
In a prior review I wrote about the disappointing experience I had on March 17, 2018, at the Legal Sea Foods - Charles Square location. We gave them the benefit of the doubt and decided to try another location, this time at Copley Place.
I tried to play it safer this time and ordered a trout dinner. The food came out looking okay. After consuming about 90% of my fish, my wife wanted to try the trout so I cut her a small piece. Upon tasting it, she said, "This is not trout!" So we looked closer at the fish and realized the flesh was white in color (we were seated in a very dim area near the kitchen so I didn't pay much attention when the food arrived) - all of the trout I've ever eaten had a pinkish hue to the flesh and had a firmer texture. We realized that the fish we were eating was actually closer to tilapia, a very different fish. At this point we only had a small piece of fish left so we didn't bother raising it up with the servers, as I didn't have any proof other than the photo I took at the beginning.
So within a few days, another disappointment and we were 0/2 at Legal Sea Foods. I won't go back next time I visit Boston.
Pretty sure a friend got good poisoning from the clams
