New England Clam Chowder
crispy local whitefish, pickled red cabbage, avocado crema, pico de gallo
There was no wait when we arrived, our reservations were good. Great table with a good view of the city.
Outstanding young waitress who took care of us like family.
Well as you can expect less for more! Clearly the Berkowitz don’t own this New England treasure any more. 1/2 full bucket of steamers for $20. The used to be full. No mixed seafood grill either which was awesome! Still really good seafood, not running back there any time soon. Bummed!
Quality seafood with excellent service and a nice view of Back Bay Boston.
It is in a high end mall though and butter could be used more judiciously with Marthas Vineyard bay scallops.
our waiter was awesome
Nice, fresh seafood as usual. I had cioppino, which had delicious calamari, shrimp, scallops, mussels, clams and a chunk of cod in a well seasoned tomato broth. Only disappointment was the lobster claw on top, which had been over cooked to the point where the flesh was mushy. First time I recall not eating all of the lobster I’m served. Despite that, the cioppino was great- I wouldn’t expect lobster in it anyhow. Paired well with a nice Sancerre; pricy by the glass, but that’s become the norm. Service was so-so. Our server was clearly overworked- often the case in restaurants these days. I’ll always go back to Legal.
Background music was louder than my preference and augmented by the nearby toddler’s video device.
Swordfish was a little dry. Baked haddock was good. Rolls severed were so dry even with butter you could not eat. Service and hostess were outstanding.
Outstanding manager on duty that look after mishap
4.5 stars for the food. Outstanding Lobster. The drinks came out late because they were missing an ingredient. The tables are very close and the chairs when occupied a person can not walk between them. Crab cakes just warm, not hot.
But the waiter was delightful, food timely and the food delicious. My first time there and I would go back.
Seafood combo items - scallops and shrimp were too salty
My table was very close to another table so I could almost partake in their conversation. I didn't receive any breadrolls.
Good service, good recommendations so no fault there.
Great bartender!! Great food & service! We always enjoy Legal Seafood!
This restaurant has changed dramatically since Berkowitz sold the chain. It was poor.
We had a steamed lobster, clam chowder and ciopppino. I have been going to Legal for the last 40 years. This has been the worst. I will not come back nor will I recommend to my friends. The ciopping has less fish, less garlic toast and a very watery soup. Almost tasteless. Not good. The chowder was marginal and again, not what I remember. No mre Legal Seafood.
The food was fresh, well presented and very tasty.
The waiter was fantastic, the staff was great in regards to my son’s allergy, and the food was terrific!
Old friends coming to Beantown
Steamers were smelly.; did not taste fresh. Could not eat the coleslaw; it was slimy. Clam chowder was good. Lobster roll and fried clams were ok.
Love this place. The staff and manager are super nice. Wonderful anniversary lunch.
Wish they had the Oysters 🦪 Rockefeller, but my Sangria, Lobster 🦞 Roll & Clam Chowder was great! Service is was excellent! Great, friendly and attentive staff
Food was not warm and expensive for such a causal atmosphere
Was thinking it will be a little more elegant
Went there for dinner after hearing about it several times as a place I had to try while in Boston (Were from Seattle). Being a seafood lover, how could I not take this suggestion?!
clam chowder: It was…a little thinner than I like, but had a decent amount of clams and not too many potatoes. Decent flavor but not the best chowder I’ve ever had.
Surf and turf with scallops: scallops were much smaller than I’m used to but they were tender and well seasoned. The filet, on the other hand, was cooked to the medium rare we ordered it at but had no seasoning, whatsoever. We took the butter packets served with the rolls and added it to the steak and had to ask for salt. The steak was definitely better after that but I left it for my dude to finish. This is saying a lot for me because I couldn’t tell you the last time I had to salt my food at a restaurant, and I go out to eat about 10 times a week (I travel A LOT).
The green bean and fried potato accompaniment were also poorly executed and under seasoned. They also felt very cheap for the high price of the entree (something like $65)
Crab cake - This was actually very good. I order a crab cake at almost every opportunity, so I consider myself a bit of an expert. As we all know, not all crab cakes are created equal, and while I prefer an all lump cake, this one was decently crab forward for one with breading. I could always take more crab though. The little salad accompaniment was delicious and refreshing, as well.
My guy had an old fashioned to drink and wasn’t impressed as they use cheap, chipped ice. This gives more surface space on the ice and will always water the spirits down. He couldn’t taste any of the flavors that make it an old fashioned. He went with a whisky, straight up, after that.
Our server was great. He was knowledgeable about the wine and spirits, had a very pleasant demeanor, was attentive, and was probably the saving grace of the evening, but for the price, there has to be better.
Prices too high for the quality and portions of food. Menu not as good as recall from a couple years ago.
They need more salt in their dishes.
Food was very good but not exceptional. Portions are very generous. Service was friendly and efficient. Restaurant was mostly empty, but staff chose to sit the few patrons very close together in adjacent tables about 2 feet apart. Good place to eat and good value.
A disappointing meal at Legal Seafood. We picked this restaurant based on Tripadvisor reviews, but were disappointed in the ambiance and the food. Below average chowder, hard to eat rolls, and lack luster entrees. It may be the "mall" location that didn't meet Legal Seafood's standards, so go to another location if you want to try this restaurant.
Food was average but staff nice
The restaurant is very difficult to find inside the mall. Signage and directions to the restaurant are very poor. Then the hostess acted as if I dod not have a reservation. She finally found it. I was stuck back in a corner of a sparsely seated section of the restaurant. It s
Took my sever a very long time to acknowledge me. Then, when my meal was finally delivered, it was delivered before my soup. It then took another 3 requests and 15 minutes to get some salt and pepper. I felt as though I was rushed at the end of my meal. I will never go to a Legel Seafood establishment again.
Great service and food
Out of all legal seafoods I’ve tried in Boston this by far was the worst. Service very slow, food wasn’t as listed on the menu and definitely not as good as other LSF locations.
The oysters were delicious the clams were plump and juicy and the service was adequate
Food was bland and tasteless.
We celebrated our Wedding Anniversary and the food was outstanding. We had a wonderful food server as well.
Excellent service and very allergy friendly which is critical for our family. Friendly and welcoming and the team works well together to deliver a great meal. Our server took the extra time to make us feel welcome and that we received personalized attention.
Everything was excellent which I would expect out of a Legal Sea Food. It should be worth mentioning that we were about to be served with the wrong food not once but twice. I don't know if there was a recent layout change but luckily we were full with the food we had already.
Whatever happened to legal seafood, it's now an over priced food chain.
Our server, Joanna, was absolutely amazing!
The food was great.
I'll be back!
It is not what is used to be. It has become just another seafood restaurant.
If I had to use one word to describe my meal it would be Underwhelming.
The food was extremely cold. The prices do not represent the value. The fish and chips was solid
