Legal Sea Foods - Copley Place
We know shopping induces hunger. Our restaurant is located on the upper level of Copley Place, with direct indoor access to both the Westin and Marriott hotels as well as to the Prudential Center. Panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows overlook Boston’s historic South End.
We’ve received a boatload of accolades including “#1 Best Seafood Restaurant” (USA Today, 2013), “Most Popular Boston Restaurant” (Zagat, 2012/2013), “Best Seafood Restaurant” (Improper Bostonian, 2010), “Best Chowder” (Boston Magazine, 2010) and the honor of serving our legendary New England Clam Chowder at every presidential inauguration since 1981.

Excellent food, as always. Was able to adjust my reservation easilyas traffic was tough & were late. Server forgot to bring warm rolls & butter. Got us in & out in time for opening note of Boston Pops
Excellent. Relaxed yet delicious
The food was good - our first meal in Boston and we enjoyed it very much.
I feel like Legal has gone downhill. There were far too many items on the menu that were "market price". When we asked what the prices were, the waitress seemed unsure and said "around $...." My swordfish was mediocre. The Asian sauce was bland. My husband liked his fried clams. The waitress couldn't tell him how much was in the serving, though, before he ordered. It's located inside the Copley Mall. We had a terrible time locating it since there were no signs until we were actually on the second floor of the mall. Even people at the Marriot on the first floor were unsure. All in all, I found it just fair and would not go back. There are plenty of other seafood restaurants in the area that are far better.
We enjoyed the seafood, flounder, scallops and stuffed shrimp. The sides were delicious and portions generous but not excessive. The place was empty on a Monday night st 5:30 but picked up later
Our server was very helpful with our appetizer and dinner selections.
Fantastic as always !! I have known Legal since the seventies and it has been always a great experience to dine there !! The lobsters perfect, the cherrystones superb !!! Just great !!
The food was excellent, but the service was almost nonexistent.
Scallops and fresh oysters were some of the best I have had dining out. Very fresh and wonderful taste.
Want to emphasize that our server was great. However, the lobster and ciopinno where anything but great. Would not recommend, I expected better as I've eaten at other Legal restaurants before
The location is great for all the hotels in the area. It is a mall location but you wouldn't know it as the windows look out over a green space. Food was terrific, service great and nice ambience. Something different is that they offer wine flights to try 3 different wines (red or white) from Italy or US.
We have been eating at Legal Seafood for many years. Honestly, we think the food has gone downhill from what it used to be. Very average.
Convenient, especially if anywhere near Copley. I grew up dining often at Legal's in Cambridge near Inman Square. Every single dish was scrumptious and the servings were appropriately generous, particulalrly its fried clams, salmon, and baked scrod. In recent years, however, the food I have ordered or tasted seems to have lost some of its appeal -- at least according to my taste buds.
Birthday for a family member
Great food and service!
The lobster is just so so, I highly recommend the New England clam chowder and the signature crab cake cambo. We've order too much as we're first to the restaurant, but I think the waitrees should remind us.
Was good but not espetacular
Excellent food and service!! The restaurant was dirty looking as was some of the utensils. Would definitely go again!
Service was great but food was just mediocre.
The food is consistently good, although Legal Sea Food restaurants I generally find too loud, the interriors seem to have little in the way of sound absorbing materials. Talking with friends and familiy who have hearing problems is consistently problematic. They will turn down music upon request (at least when I’ve asked).
I was excited to go here because of the reviews. I was very disappointed in the food it wasn't the worst but it was just mediocre.I have definitely had much better seafood at cheaper places in North Carolina and also now in Boston. I think it is definitely not worth the price to go here it's very loud and food was just so-so to have walked out paying over $100 for two people.
Outstanding menu selection. Service was wonderful. Our server was very friendly. She knew the menu. Was able to answer every question. Food was outstanding. Noise level was just right. We were able to hear each other talk. The layout and decor was very nice.
A little pricey but the food and service was stellar.
Melanie the bartender was awesome! The hosts were great as well! My salad was fantastic! Will be back for sure!!
Always delicious. I first ordered the "Lite" Clam Chowder - and very much appreciate that the server let me know that it is not as creamy as the usual - so I went ahead and took the calorie hit
We were in Boston 4 nights and ate at Legal every night! We love fresh seafood and can't get it in New Mexico!
Our server, Cindy, did a great job! She was very attentive and always checked to see how we
Service and location was good. Food was some of the most bland I’ve had. Some of the dishes didn’t even have salt. I got the salmon, which came with rice and steamed broccoli. I could’ve made the same dish at home for half the price and probably more flavor
Made reservation for 2 for a special meal and we were seated at a table for 4 in far back of restaurant with difficult access due to desire to cram as many seats as possible in area. Very disappointed in ambiance. Server inattentive. My husband loved his oysters but main dish was a special and very disappointed in preparation which was overdone grilled king salmon. My char was cooked properly.
In whole an expensive meal that was mediocre at best
Had a very nice evening out with people we met for the first time. The hostess accommodated our request for a quieter spot. We had plenty of room and it was less noisy. The food was very good. The service was good but the waitress could have come around more often. The Copley location is great because you can walk around inside and over to the Prudential shops as well.
Food not as fresh as they used to be. Service was ok but forgot my beer and spoon.
We were taken to our table immediately after arriving. Staff was courteous and friendly (no hovering or to many interruptions). The food/drinks came in a timely fashion. My guests and I were pleased with the food. Will be returning.
Lovely ambiance. Great service. Too much butter sauce but delicious.
Since Legal closed one of two locations in the Prudential-Copley Mall, the remaining (smaller) location has been swamped. I only eat there once per week with a dear friend. The bill only amounted to $80-$100 but now its gone up to an average of $125. We do not drink alcohol We never order more than 6 oysters between us (at $3.50 each for Wellfleets, the cost of a dozen is more than the roundtrip bus fare to Wellfleet!). Last week I found a new entree: steamed salmon and shrimp with rice noodles for < $20! Its fantastic. The lemon grass and ginger broth proves that the chef at this legal really can put out a world-class entree (who knew that Legal’s fish would ever escape the Fry-o-later). So for our $6,500 annual cost we could not get a window seat when so requested 12 hr in advance. “Too busy to deal with that.”
Always good food, very accommodating to our group with a toddler, will always come back when in town.
Classic new England clam chowder on point.
My husband's seared tuna steak was cooked well done, but it tasted good, so he didn't ask to have it remade.
I love the relaxed feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friend's home. I definitely would return to try more dishes.
