Legal Sea Foods - Copley Place
We know shopping induces hunger. Our restaurant is located on the upper level of Copley Place, with direct indoor access to both the Westin and Marriott hotels as well as to the Prudential Center. Panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows overlook Boston’s historic South End.
We’ve received a boatload of accolades including “#1 Best Seafood Restaurant” (USA Today, 2013), “Most Popular Boston Restaurant” (Zagat, 2012/2013), “Best Seafood Restaurant” (Improper Bostonian, 2010), “Best Chowder” (Boston Magazine, 2010) and the honor of serving our legendary New England Clam Chowder at every presidential inauguration since 1981.
Always a reliable spot for seafood and fish.
Seafood that tasted like it was a reheated frozen food section meal. Bland, no flavor and low quality. We arrived in town late and were looking for a quick meal for 2. $109 with tip and only one beer. Disappointing and over priced
Service was slow.
Kitchen made the wrong dish for my spouse.
Caesar salad with salmon was bland.
Good variety and always reliable. Ask for a table by the window, to get a nice view over the Southend.
I had excellent clams as an appetizer. I had excellent scallops as a main course. But the wonderful rice and and onion strings were replaced by by an odd sort of polenta and a huge kale salad. I would encourage Legal to return to their menu which allowed choice of sides for the grilled fish.
Tonight the service was painfully slow. My dining partner finished his appetizer salad before my clams were served. ( Then he was served a second salad with his main course —see above.) If the restaurant were full I might excuse the service.
I will return, as I have come to Legal regularly since the early 80’s. But I hope that Legal’s management decides to return to it’s wonderful original menu.
I was happy that they still offer the wonderful Bon bons.
Terrible. Worst in my lifetime
They accept reservations till 9:30 but close at 10:00 means they don’t offer nothin that we want
The assistant was in a bad mood because we arrived 9:40
The food looks as the rest of a meal
I strongly suggest to avoid the legal seafood
Recommend by friends for great seafood, was not disappointed. 😋We're from L.A.
Our dinner was good but not great. We regularly eat at Legal Sea Foods in Kendall Square (which is consistently excellent), but our dinner in Copley had ups and downs. We did not receive dinner rolls until requested even though others did. Half of my braised king crab legs were excellent, but the other half tasted quite fishy and the body meat was not flavorful. The mashed potatoes came out cold and we decided not to send anything back because our reservation was at 9pm and we didn’t want to keep the staff waiting past closing.
My SO’s Arctic char was great and so was the tuna “sashimi” app. We’d like to eat here more regularly because my SO works nearby on Newbury, but I couldn’t justify shelling out another $50 for half quality king crab when we could just go to the Kendall Sq Legal.
The food was good, as it always is at Legal Seafoods, the service was exceptional.
A dream for the pescatarian, or the individual who is Celiac. There is a dedicated fryer, so I enjoyed gluten free fried calamari, and fish and chips. A totally indulgent and delicious meal! They even served delightful gluten free bread. For the regular diner, all seafood is fresh and the oysters are a treat. The servers are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. A wonderful dining experience.
Food was delicious and served in a timely matter. We definitely recommend this restaurant.
The food was terrible. We ordered calamari& baked oysters as apps. And for meals, the seafood casserole and the crab cakes with grilled seafood combo with greens quinoa with a mustard sauce. The crab cakes were so wet and slimy- everything in my plate was overpowered by the mustard sauce. The grilled items were bland and dry- not hot. The baked oysters were ok.
My daughter and I ate at Legal on our way to the Phish show at Fenway. It was delicious!
We have been coming to Legal seafood for years, but are disappointed by the changes over time. Our latest visit was the last straw. While no one was rude, the service was impersonal and indifferent. The prices have continued to go up while the value has gone down. For example, we were advised that rolls before dinner were discontinued. This is the height of cheapness. Also, the choice of sides has been discontinued, and you can’t even gets baked potato anymore. While the food quality was good the value is not there anymore
The service was very basic. Server had little personality. Food was ok.
I would not eat there again
Great waiter. Very accommodating hostess. Nice space. Fun view.
Although there was a loud birthday party next to us, the place was great in every way!
My sister and I were going to a 2:00 pm play at the Huntington theater. The Hostess had our table ready, which was great. Our waiter was Andrew, he was personable and friendly. We told him we had to be somewhere at 2:00 p.m. and he assured us not to worry. We ordered, I got Fried Scallops, and my sister had Guspacho and Mussels. The food came out promptly, it was quite delicious. We were finished by 1:40 pm just enough time to walk to the show. Thanks to the organized staff, we had a great experience!
Always excellent food; the specials are a very good option. Service is friendly and helpful. Atmosphere is average. Overall, it’s a good experience.
I have been going to Legal for many years. This time I ordered the Lobster Roll for dinner. It was not what I expected from past experiences. The portion was a bit skimpy and the lobster was tough and hard to chew. I also didn't expect it to cost more than $32. There are a lot of other restaurants around me that serve lobster. I will be trying them before I return to Legal.
Fresh, perfectly prepared seafood. I’ve been to several branches of Legal Seafood and the quality of the food is good and reliable. This copley Place location is extremely busy, so I strongly suggest reservations. Service is friendly and efficient
I've been going to Legal Seafood since it began as a fish market in Inman Square in Cambridge, and it has always been one of the best fish restaurants in the country. Their fried clams were famous. I was just back in Boston for a visit after a number of years, and wow has Legal Seafood degenerated. The food was mediocre, with poor value. None of the fish was local, with a standard corporate restaurant location. Sadly, will never go back, nor recommend to anyone.
The place was empty and had more of a feel of a cafeteria. I guess it’s because it’s inside the mall
Service was outstanding and the decor and ambiance, while dated, were fine. However, the quality of food was poor. Not inedible, but over cooked and lacking in taste.
We hosted a fairly large party, with some last-minute additions to the reservation. Everything was ready on time, the staff was gracious and accommodating and paid scrupulous attention to our order and any extra requests. We recommend Legal Copley Place highly!
Excellent food, as always. Was able to adjust my reservation easilyas traffic was tough & were late. Server forgot to bring warm rolls & butter. Got us in & out in time for opening note of Boston Pops
Excellent. Relaxed yet delicious
The food was good - our first meal in Boston and we enjoyed it very much.
I feel like Legal has gone downhill. There were far too many items on the menu that were "market price". When we asked what the prices were, the waitress seemed unsure and said "around $...." My swordfish was mediocre. The Asian sauce was bland. My husband liked his fried clams. The waitress couldn't tell him how much was in the serving, though, before he ordered. It's located inside the Copley Mall. We had a terrible time locating it since there were no signs until we were actually on the second floor of the mall. Even people at the Marriot on the first floor were unsure. All in all, I found it just fair and would not go back. There are plenty of other seafood restaurants in the area that are far better.
We enjoyed the seafood, flounder, scallops and stuffed shrimp. The sides were delicious and portions generous but not excessive. The place was empty on a Monday night st 5:30 but picked up later
Our server was very helpful with our appetizer and dinner selections.
Fantastic as always !! I have known Legal since the seventies and it has been always a great experience to dine there !! The lobsters perfect, the cherrystones superb !!! Just great !!
The food was excellent, but the service was almost nonexistent.
Scallops and fresh oysters were some of the best I have had dining out. Very fresh and wonderful taste.
Want to emphasize that our server was great. However, the lobster and ciopinno where anything but great. Would not recommend, I expected better as I've eaten at other Legal restaurants before
The location is great for all the hotels in the area. It is a mall location but you wouldn't know it as the windows look out over a green space. Food was terrific, service great and nice ambience. Something different is that they offer wine flights to try 3 different wines (red or white) from Italy or US.
We have been eating at Legal Seafood for many years. Honestly, we think the food has gone downhill from what it used to be. Very average.
Convenient, especially if anywhere near Copley. I grew up dining often at Legal's in Cambridge near Inman Square. Every single dish was scrumptious and the servings were appropriately generous, particulalrly its fried clams, salmon, and baked scrod. In recent years, however, the food I have ordered or tasted seems to have lost some of its appeal -- at least according to my taste buds.
