Everyone in our party of six enjoyed his meal and we had a very good time. However, the food did not measure up to the prices that were charged and the menu was not too creative or interesting. One of us had fish and chips - the fish was very thin and not too generous. The "side" options did not include enough vegetable options. The polenta was outstanding, the Boston Cream Pie was the best ever. The rest was just so-so. Next time we will probably try find another seafood restaurant.
Consistently excellent seafood.
The food is always top quality. I have never found better oysters anywhere else.
The food is dependable; not fantastic but always fresh and good. We eat here often and always request a booth so that we can hear each other. It was busy and we were seated at a corner banquette which would have been okay BUT there was a speaker directly above us and the music was loud and obnoxious. We asked twice to have it turned down and the server smiled and complied and then in a few minutes the volume crept back up again. Who wants to eat dinner to the sound of a drum machine? It spoiled what would have been a pleasant meal.
happy to see return to old menu
They were having trouble with the alarm, our elderly diners did not appreciate it.
...and we were not disappointed. We were a party of 4 and everyone ordered lobster with two sides. We started with the oysters, which were fresh and delicious. We ended our dinner with warm chocolate pudding. It was amazing but not quite warm. Our server was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. It was a great meal and the perfect place to bring our out-of-town guests for a treat.
Legals is a good go to restaurant for lunch and dinner both for business and for personal dining. It never disappoints.
The Legals in Chestnut Hill probably serves some of the most consistent food compared to their other locations. The staff though is not quite attentive. Arrived 10 min. early for a reservation for 6 and were seated 30 min. later - no explanations. Took an additional 20 minutes for waitress to approach us and offer us drinks. We gave her our order and appetizers/ meals all arrived at the same time. One meal was missing-finally flagged down our waitress she said it would be five more minutes - ended being 20 minutes. She never apologized -manager came over and said "they were busy and these things happen" - no attempt to rectify the situation or offer anything else. Food was good as usual, but left disappointed in a place we frequent regularly.
Excellent as usual but we felt rushed.
We usually have great meals here, but our food took almost an hour to be served. The steamed mussels tasted bad so we sent them back. My dad's entree was overcooked and over seasoned too, but he ate it because it was getting so late. The server forgot my side dish when my meal came. She was friendly, but not very attentive and never refilled our waters.
Excellent service, food,and atmosphere. PERFECT!
food is always good. but decor leaves a lot to be desired. very noisy but waiters and wwaitresses very good.
The food is consistently good. I always bring family when visiting as they love to try the seafood.
All around, just the best place anywhere for great, fresh inventively creative fish dishes. And great Filet Mignon to match any steak house. Service is consistently excellent. Enough said.
The wood grilled shrimp with Cajun seasoning is delicious and enough for great leftovers. The baked potato is perfectly crisp and salted. My only complaint is that most of the offered sides are carbs. Why not more veggie offerings? Broccoli is on the menu but its terrible...steamed with no flavor. It would be nice to have asparagus, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower or other veggies as an option. But still, the shrimp are good enough to overcome the veggie disappointment.
We often dine at Legals in other locations and have never seen it quite like Chestnut Hill. This was much too crowded with people shouting to be seated, as if all reservation requests had been accepted without regard to the number of people they could accommodate. Wait staff really tried to be attentive. Dinner was okay, not up to usual standard (manager checked with us twice). We love Legals but will stay in our own community next time!
Great food and service, as always!
Loved the grilled arctic char -- moist, not over- or under-done.
Tempura flounder wasn't really tempura -- it was more like what you get with fish 'n' chips.
Great lunch experience. Excellent service.
I think Legals is the Best Seafood in town. Zack our waiter was very attentive and knowledgable about the menu and wine list. Always yummy!!!
Our meal was delicious! But what made the evening was Alison. She greeted us at the door, shared she would be our server and from that moment our evening went from good to great! She knows how to care for a table without being intrusive. She smiled, was polite, efficient and made the evening relaxing and enjoyable.
We had gathered for a reunion of old best friends and mentioned that to the wait staff. The response was wonderful. The server was helpful and didn't rush us. As we reminisced and enjoyed the quite good food, the manager came over to chat and congratulate us on being friends for more than 50 years and offered free desserts. The best service I have ever had in a restaurant !
This place was my favorite restaurant for 20 years. Over the past few years my opinion has changed, I'd say the last 5 times I've been there the quality has been sub par. Not only has it fallen from being my favorite restaurant, I don't know if I will even go there again. I wouldn't say its bad, but its certainly not what it once was. The food is average, doesn't justify the prices.
The seafood was excellent - fresh and hot but the side dishes were lukewarm at best. I would have rated the food excellent had it not been for the temperature of the side dishes. This was my experience the last time I dined there as well.
Terrific food. No pretensions. Much appreciation to GM, Enzo, for his warmth and unfailing professionalism. To Said, our server, simply the best!!! Thank you, thank you!
We were originally sat outside (per our request) but a rainstorm broke out mid meal. Our server Elaine moved us inside and was very accommodating and patient. Her menu and wine knowledge were spot on, in addition to a natural instinct for hospitality which one seldom finds, even working in this industry. Sadly our meal was interrupted by a fire alarm and we had to leave our food and the building...surprisingly management never approached the table or acknowledged this, our server again was great and offered to bring out a fresh portion.
We had a great meal of gazpacho and the tuna sashimi appetizer (which is quite generous) - a perfect light summer meal. They were busy but we still felt attended to. Very nice dining experience overall
I always get the same thing....grey sole muniere...love it....please never take it off the menu. Service is always friendly and good!
Took my girl friend for our anniversary to legals and we both had a great experience. Josh was super attentive and knowledgable about the wine. One of the managers stopped by with crab cakes for us and wished us a happy anniversary. Food and service am A+. A very notable anniversary!
We had an excellent waiter big smile and very helpful. Two of our group had special diets that he was more than gracious helping with selections. Will be bringing the next family group from out of town since everyone had a great experience
The food was as good as it always is. However our waiter seemed annoyed that we were there.
Great seafood, but very pricey. Would come e Rey week, but too expensive
Waiter Josh was very good. Attentive
Excellent food and high level of service. Definitely would go again
Legals' dishes are consistently fresh, well-prepared and pricey.
I would wait a while to go back - - the construction around the site made it difficult to get into and difficult to park..
Nutty salmon dish neither fresh or tasty
Waitress forgot about our check as restaurant
consistently good food, well prepared and presented, outstanding service.
The food here is great - especially the grilled shrimp or fish. The reservation desk seemed overwhelmed. Our reservations were for 7:45. We arrived on time and were told "Give us a few minutes to clear a table." We sat right in front of the desk with our pager. When it hadn't gone off after 25 minutes, we inquired politely only to be told that they had crossed off the reservation because they had written down the wrong pager number and had been paging that incorrect number, which, of course did not produce a response. No one thought to call our name? No apology and we were seated for at least 20 minutes before the very nice but very busy waiter brought us even a roll. An apology from a manager would have been a nice touch.
Went as part of a group of 7 friends. The waiter was excellent: friendly, helpful, and available when we needed him. I had the seasonal fried soft shell crab. It was just okay. They were having a special on some Chilean wines. We tried both a bottle of the pinot and the malbec. The pinot was not like any pinot I've ever tasted: no one liked it. The malbec was better -- my guess is it was about a $10-12 bottle retail, so not a fine wine, but drinkable.
