Legal Sea Foods - Chestnut Hill Ratings and Reviews
I'm sorry to leave a negative review, as I've loved Legals for years. But my grey sole was bland with almost no sauce. My husband ordered spicy fish and chips but received the regular, non-spicy type, which he found it not as good as usual. The waiter didn't know anything about the wine I asked about. The staff was friendly, but the meal for us and our friends was a disappointment.
Everything was mediocre. From the food and drinks to the decor and atmosphere. Felt like a "bargain" family restaurant and not the high quality/integrity establishment it should've been. Unfortunate as we wanted to bring a larger group if it had been better.
Food: left a lot to the imagination. I chose the crab cakes and they just tasted bland, while my date chose surf and turf our imnediate reaction was "whoa this looks like a platter from Sizzler."
Service: our server was nice and well meaning but also seemed very busy and rushed.
We went for an early Sunday dinner during the Dining Out event. Great fixed menu of hot crab dip, crab cakes, and strawberry shortcake. Everything was delicious. This was my first visit to this Legal location and I was very pleased with the ambiance. WIll be going back soon.
Usually great - this time, a serious lack of regard for diner needs! One of the reasons why I get fish at Legal is that they are very careful with separation regarding my shellfish allergy. I ate about half of my meal and asked to have the rest wrapped. Our server piled my plate right on top of a plate from a neighboring table with shellfish on it. When I mentioned it to him, he didn't seem to take it seriously. So, I spoke with the manager on the way out as a "training" issue. He agreed it shouldn't have happened, but the manager should have at least offered to compensate me in some way for the half of a very expensive meal that I wound up having to leave behind because of contamination issues. I love this restaurant and have always had great service before. This time, two people dropped the ball and it was a serious enough issue that it needed to be included in this review.
It was a going away dinner for one of our family members and he picked Legals. The lobster was wonderful, as were the grilled shrimp, shrimp wontons & crabcakes. The clam chowder was an especially good batch and the best we've had anywhere. The rolls were piping hot and absolutely delicious. The service was excellent and equal to the excellent food. The portions of the appetizers were good and the entree portions were rather large. We were seated as soon as we arrived for our reservation. We didn't have room for dessert but I did have my eye on the strawberry shortcake.
We had oysters to start, and tuna and spinach salad for dinner. The portions, especially the spinach salad were generous. kids menus were great value, with a generous portion of fish, maybe too much french fries is only negative. Cheesecake & strawberry shortcakes were delicious. Loved the tuna entree with jasmine rice & spinach. Unlike other restaurants, Legals gives really nice sized portions..will be back
Too noisy in our room, tables too close together. Waitress was unenthusiastic and made no recommendations. ...also seemed impatient with our selections of side dishes. For the prices of the entrees we would expect higher service and quality of food. Was disappointed overall with the experience at this location.
We typically enjoy this legal seafoods location, however, we made a reservation for 7 of us to celebrate an 80th birthday and were very disappointed. When I made the reservation, I noted that we were celebrating a birthday and requested a cake. The day before our reservation, I called to confirm that there would be a cake and some candles and was reassured that there would be. When we arrived for our reservation, we were left waiting while they checked on our table. Once we were seated, we saw our server only a few times, and had the typical troubles with forgetting items and getting orders wrong. Our bottle of white wine was left on the table with no ice bucket to keep it cool and we had to request an ice bucket three separate times before we received it. The food was disappointing and slow to come out, and at the end of the meal we discovered they had forgotten the cake! It didn't spoil our evening, but was definitely an underwhelming experience all around.
Went to dinner with my daughter and husband as a little treat--a mid-summer night casual dinner. Food was delicious, pretty good cocktail and a nice waiter. Only problem was when I found a one-inch piece of a plastic glove inside the coffee ice cream bon bon I ordered for dessert. After it snapped back into the bon bon upon my first bite, I was in disbelief. Upon carving Into the bon bon, I unearthed a thin, inch long and wide piece of stretchy plastic. I told the waiter and he rushed it away, only to come back and ask if we wanted anything else to eat. As we were DONE, I asked for the check, which was brought to us promptly. They did not charge me for the bonbon but I felt a bit annoyed -- we pay and go?? I asked to speak with the Manager who hadn't come by to apologize. When he appeared I reiterated the story but he looked unimpressed. Bottom line is we paid close to $150 for a meal and left feeling disgusted and a bit disrespected. I've been going to Legal's in the Boston area for decades but think I'm done. A little something extra or a free drink next time or some such offer should have been given to win us back. They don't care, I guess...
I appreciated that we were asked prior to being seated if we were celebrating something special. When we said we were old friends getting together, we were immediately placed in a cozy, quiet location and left to chat the afternoon away. Everyone said they liked the food they ordered. Our server, Leah, was awesome, very personable, efficient, and accommodating.
This was a horrible experience. We have been going to Legal Seafoods for years. Will Never go again. They seemed completely overwhelmed. Service was not good. My husband's salad was delivered after his meal. My fish was not cooked. Literally gummy raw jelly. Told waitress who said she would be right back. Never returned. A manager stopped at table so we told him. He came back with a little plate and took my fish. Brought it back 15 minutes on a new plate with cold mashed potatoes. Fish now just a pile of cooked flakes. He scraped my half eaten baked potato (only edible part of meal) on top of the fish.
So sorry we used our $100 points reward to get this dreadful meal. At least the others in the party had cooked fish. They STILL CHARGED me for this meal. Even asked if I wanted a box to take home the inedible mess on my plate. So sad. I liked this place for years.
Continues to be one of my favorite Legal seafood menus (I've been to 3 others this month). Still love a good baked potato as an option and the Arctic char was outstanding. Cooked to perfection and a generous serving. The waitress was extremely accommodating, since it was a mini reunion and we lingered for quite some time without feeling hurried.
We had a wonderful dining experience at Legal Seafoods. The food is always good. Our party had calamari and fried clams as appetizers and then crab cakes, swordfish and scallops as main courses. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Their cocktails are very good as well. During our last two visits the Waitress & Waiter were exceptional. The Manager also checked in with us to make sure that we were enjoying our meal.
