Legal Sea Foods - Chestnut Hill
Friday & Saturday: 11am - 11pm
Sunday: 12pm - 10pm
We were all happy with our food except for the dessert, which happened to be the special: an apple tart. Or maybe it was an apple cobbler. Either way the whole thing was just mushy.
Trout and Scrod were nicely done - Gluten Free is our only option. Love the butternut squash; the garlic leek brown rice is also pretty tasty. The room was very crowded - 1 large room, high ceiling = acoustics are LOUD. Also on a fall evening, the dining room was COLD even with probably 100 warm bodies......cold air blowing from above. Waiter said that it's always this way - even worse in the "lounge." Good dinner out but I'm not rushing back - too much noise, uncomfortable temperature, and not 'cozy.'
Good food - good service - easy parking . Consistent overall!!
Great place. fresh seafood, well done, without unnecessary faddish culinary acrobatics. New place is modern, airy, easy to get to, ample parking.
A very pleasant spot for casual lunch with friends.
Awesome! The revamped restaurant was super nice. Food always great.
I took my aunt for an afternoon spontaneous treat. Our waiter Phoung was wonderful! He was polite and attentive to our needs. I had such a great time that I went again the next day with my sister. Hannah was our waitress and she was just as great!
I AM A LONG TIME CUSTOMER OF LEGAL SEA FOOD RESTAURANTS. I USED TO GO THE OLD RESTAURANT BEFORE THEY MOVED TO THE NEW ONE. THE FOOD IS ALWAYS GOOD AND THE STAFF HAS BEEN GREAT. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT FOR ANY OCCASION .
We tried the new Chestnut Hill restaurant and it was fabulous. We sat on the porch and enjoyed one of the last nights of the summer. The food was delicious and our server was extremely nice. All in all a great evening.
I am gluten free and find Legal the best place in Town! Jackson is a great server!
The ladies room was very dirty and cluttered with used paper towels. Other than that it was a terrific experience!
Very nice layout
Always a pleasure
Legal is a great place for quality dining. I haven't had better seafood. Most crab cakes are mostly breading, but here it was mostly lump crab. Lobster bisque was less salty than what you find elsewhere, so you can salt to taste.
The new Legal's in Chestnut Hill has an awkward layout and lacks authentic charm. While it's efficient, well managed, and has good energy -- it is at best average overall in terms of food quality and experience. Maybe because it's new, I feels like the restaurant still has to find its groove and personality. It felt a little too functional, relatively casual, and cookie-cutter for a Legal's and was lacking that sense of quality associated with a meaningful dining experience. Not a bad place for a conversational date, but maybe not a first date, because it fails to impress.
Our go to spot for all our out of town family...the request whenever they come. Seaffod selection for a variety of finicky and not so finicky tastes. Thanks
Been a customer for over thirty years but the new place in Chestnut Hill lacks the warmth and elegance we loved. We don’t like the black walls and ceilings and no window coverings. It feels cold and smaller. Miss the boats we Loved. The food is the same although the menu is missing the a la carte veggies etc. and the prices are up!
I got the popcorn shrimp with buffalo sauce. It was like bar food you could get anyplace, nothing special, very coated and very fried.
Scallops were suppose to be grilled but no grill marks, barely cooked or seasoned so very little taste.
My daughter got the shrimp cocktail which was fine but once again nothing special about shrimp/sauce or presentation. She also got the salmon with brown rice. It was good but nothing great. Place is very nice but You can get way better in other Boston seafood restaurants.
Our waitress was super, the food outstanding and we brought cousins who have never eaten at Legal's. They loved it even more and will try to find one closer to NYC where they live.
Let us book a reservation for a table but put us in the bar when we arrived. Told it would be a long wait for a table. Seems disingenuous to offer a reservation time if they were not going to honor it.
28th Wedding anniversary
The food is always wonderful and fresh and tasty. The service is always good.
Challenged to get our order right. Ordered Jack abbey House Lager and got IPA and then they came back with a Stout. Appetizer came after meal. Rolls were an after thought. 2nd waitress much improved and worked hard to make it a pleasant evening.
Most disappointing no longer cook separately for shellfish allergies!
been going there for decades. They moved locations this year. This was my second visit to the new location and they are still not in the game yet. My first visit in their second month was a disaster, and this one was so-so. Slow responses, the runner with he food repeatedly did not know whose plate was to whom, and reached across a 4-top to serve everyone from one standing position. Huge error in dining service. The seafood mixed grille was overcooked and tasteless
The new facility is overly noisy; the wait staff is not on top of thing - one example, not paying attention to the need for plates or utensils when serving food or another example of grabbing food without asking if you are finished; the access to the one bathroom area. The former location was a favorite. I cannot recommend this new facility.
Had reservations for 7:00PM and table was not ready (2 minutes late) manager comp us a shrimp cocktail. That was awesome!
Chestnuthill renovated space great, food excellent as we have come to expect!
The food itself was as good as it's ever been. Fresh fish properly prepared. Prices have gone up but not unreasonable for the still generous portions given raw fish prices. Except for the signature clam chowder that was (a) more watery than in the past, (b) came in a cup that would be embarrassingly small for a cup of coffee, and (c) cost $7.50. The "airport-modern" ambience of the new location didn't do it for us; it was very crowded and noisy. Someone said it felt "like economy coach". Even the restrooms. We liked the former Chestnut HIll location much better.
Favorite local restaurant now, never went to the other Legals, no atmosphere. This new facility has a fresh look to match a new fresh menu. Love sitting at the bar, bar room and the outdoor seating area is just simply beautiful.
Great food, including some tasty new offerings, with excellent service. The chicken wing appetizer is a wonderful and tasty new item.
Our server was great and our experience overall was very good. We'd come more often exceot that the food is overly salty!!! Three out of four diners found their food excessively salty.
Lunched at the new Legal Sea Foods Restaurant in Chestnut Hill. The new digs are open and airy and a refreshing change from the dark stodgy atmosphere of the old restaurant. Windows every where kept the dining room bright and lively. Food and service didn't suffer any with the move. Still the best trained wait staff around and of course the food is great, although, quite pricey.
New location is great much more pleasant than other locations.
Love Legal’s ! Our food wasn’t warm so that was disappointing.. they used to bring a meal out when it was ready to avoid the issue we had.
We usually have good service but this time it was very slow. We came in at 5 pm - had a reservation for 4 and were eating early as we had our grandson with us - and a large table of 8 was seated nearby sometime after us, but were taken care of first: orders taken, appetizers and maincourae delivered well before were were taken care of. Annoying. And the restaurant wasn’t particularly crowded at that time. Our waitress acknowledged the delay, but couldn’t seem to do much about it.
Our group of 6 greatly enjoyed the new menu. The new location is a nice change of pace. Our server was very good, making good suggestions. We had reservations for 7 but had to wait about 25 minutes. As we all had brought our appetites, the delay was not appreciated. The staff did not seem to know how to handle the situation. With a small waiting area and no seats available, our group was an obstacle for coming and going dinners and the wait staff.
The food at most legal Seafoods is always superb and consistently delicious and fresh. Our waiter, Bill, was wonderful in many ways - understanding, patient and smart.
The new legal in Chestnut hill feels more crowded and less comfortable than the old one - sorry to report this.
and ps - you need to have a 'great food' choice in you list above.
Outstanding food and service. Adjusted our order to our likes. Open tables work well for our reservations.
The food was great! I love eating at Legal's. The food is consistent as well as the service. They never disappoint!
We got there and requested a high top window seat. It wasn’t available which was fine. That said a table became available as a client declined the table given. The host staff, which also had a clear view of the table said we could then have it. Apparently another host staff gave it to another patron who I knew arrived after our party. Long story short the communication is not up to par for a restaurant of this type as of yet.
