Food was really great. And the restaurant was respectful of Covid rules.
Service was slow and food was not great. Calamari was soggy and overcooked. The haddock was served kind of cold maybe due to slow service. Then of course -5 stars for the location in Newton with paper straws and you have to wear a mask into a restaurant with sit in dining
service and food is not up to par with the legal seafood of the past. Mistakes in the order, slow service, limited menu choices. Legal Seafood used to be a destination that you could count on for high quality food on a consistent basis with their very limited menu and the just average food prep it has fallen to the level of just acceptable. In the future I will look for alternatives for my seafood "fix"
Everything was great! Food service quality and outdoor dining all in 1 place!!
It was unfortunate that we couldn't reserve our seats on the patio as requested. A reservation is a reservation, so why limit us. We had out of town guests that we wanted to share Legal Seafood with while also ensuring the safety of being outside AND the view of the pond. Hopefully those rules are changed in the future, but for now we will seek out other restaurants that can accommodate outside seating under a reservation.
The food is always good here. The list of grilled fish has shrunk; but our server told us they are putting the trout back on the menu in a couple of weeks which made me happy. Our server was friendly and competent.
The food is fresh and very good. The price points are a bit high. The space in the room with the bar is very pretty and bright and has really good ventilation. Service was very good.
Halibut was very dry and tasteless
We really enjoyed the food and the ambiance!
legal used to be perfect but I was so disappointed with my appetizer I didn’t order an entree. The waitress was nice enough to take it off my bill. The very large window which was wide open and so cool wind enough to blow the menus off the table. I asked the hostess if they could please close it and she never returned. I tried myself and knocked my water off the table. Oh well not impressed.
This was my first visit to the to the "new" Legal's in Chestnut Hill as well as my first visit under their new ownership. Much seemed the same as always (and that's good). The fish tacos were delicious and my companion enjoyed his crab cakes. The food was fresh and prepared promptly. And the rolls are still hot (yay!).
The two not-so-great things were that a mouse ran across the dining room while we were eating. When I mentioned this to the waiter, he simply shrugged it off. The server was also difficult to find at the end of the meal when we wanted our check. Once flagged, he was attentive.
We did not have the best experience. The pictures are deceiving in terms of the looks and ambiance of the restaurant. We went for our 5 year anniversary and we’re hopeful when the hostess told us a week before that bc we reserved so early they could prob get us seating outside. We were told it would be a 2 hour wait when we got there. Inside of restaurant looks very congested with lack of any romantic feel. You get a vibe that your grabbing food after a day of shopping at the mall.
My husband and I along with our daughter and son-in-law, enjoyed a lovely lunch on the patio, overlooking the pond at Chestnut Hill. The pace was relaxed, the service attentive, and the food and wine, excellent. Though we return often, it continues to feel like we are away on vacation. Highly recommend.
The PEI mussels were delicious as was all the food and drinks. Our server, Katharine , was terrific. Great attitude, attentive, professional, accommodating, friendly.
This is one of my favorite restaurants. It is always delicious. The service is always good. The ambience is comfortable. Thank you.
Menu still needs a little tweaking after Covid cutbacks, but definitely getting better. We've been back here about 4 times in the past few months, and each time it gets a little better and back to Legal's standards.
Excellent quality of food, always cooked perfectly!
Service is excellent as well! Very professional all around.
Love the large open windows-feels like dining out, even though you’re inside.
Nice staff and professional service.
Clean and spacious, with availability to outdoor seating.
Tuna steak on light coconut broth with Thai veggies was great. Part of the LS Test kitchen. I hope it stays on the menu.
Legal used to be one of my favorite places to eat. Not anymore. The calamari was dry, tough, breading heavy tasteless. Same was true for my husband's fried clams. The Sushi appetizer was tasteless. I'm sad.
I am sorry to say that to me, this experience was disappointing. I had just been to Legal's a month ago; now, upon returning, I saw that the menu was clipped and the offerings were few. The food was not a problem, but due to the limitations, I do not plan an immediate return trip.
There have been menu changes- and I find there is little to like.
Legal Seafoods is consistent and offers really great seafood
Service was good and a bottle of wine was reasonable
This is not my favorite restaurant, but our birthday guest chose it. The service, though friendly, was really sub par--dishes didn't get cleaned off the table, requests for water, etc., were slow to arrive. Market price for lobster was $46. It was a boiled lobster, though of a good size. Sides were mediocre. I had a "lobster salad" which was $37. Lobster portion was also generous, but the salad was terrible--wilted greens of no interest whatsoever. I don't plan on going back. Rather have my seafood at a clam shack, like Woodman's, where they don't pretend (and fail) to give you a fine dining experience.
Our only problem was the server. She was very slow to take care of us, didn’t offer us bread until we’ll after she took our lunch orders, and didn’t bring us our meals until she finally realized (perhaps) that three other tables had already received their meals. These tables had all come in after we did, and someone else actually delivered our food, not the server. The food was fine, the service terrible.
Dynamite lobster! Miss my baked potato, but truly delish!
Very disappointing for Legal Seafood. Not up to their usual standards on food presentation and taste/quality.
The service was not good and food was just ok . Not the usual legal seafood experience disappointing
New location and decor is inferior to old in Chestnut Hill. No oysters of any kind available at a seafood restaurant! The lobster roll was just okay for over $40.00. The women's lavatories were not clean and the sink and area looked dirty. Not planning on returning to this location.
1. I ordered 6 cherry stone clams and was brought 4.
2. Asked for tuna entree grilled with no seasoning on top and it came with peppercorn coriander seasoning smothered on top.
3. Bathrooms were not clean.
4 waitress was nice but had too many tables and we didn’t see her much
5. Dinner bill was dropped on our table like we were eating at a diner. Wasn’t placed in a receipt holder.
6. Gluten-free rolls were not available.
Legals has really changed.
Disappointing for a 60th birthday celebration.
Terrific waiter and hostessing. Generally very good food but 1 of us felt her dish was bad/ didn’t taste right. She didn’t eat it. Not sure if they comped a replacement dish of shrimp?
Cuisine was prepared precisely, cooked perfectly, and offered interesting flavor combinations. Service was prompt.
Always a great meal. Always great service. I have never been disappointed in this restaurant--especially at this location.
Delicious food. Great service. Nice environment.
Seating was without pleasant greeting, wait staff very slow to even drop by and slow through out the eve. Rolls appeared ages before we even ordered.
Person bring food to table had no idea who had ordered what. Second time in 2 weeks this has been the case.
My Food not up to standard. Caesar salad sloppily made, big hunks of parm cheese, too few croutons - like it had been ready and sitting for far too long. 4 big shrimp were good but I liked it better when shrimp were smaller and more like 9. Side order of fries was pretty mediocre and small.
The host who greeted us when we arrived did not seem particularly happy to seat us. She didn’t really make eye contact with us and almost begrudgingly had someone else take us to our table.
After that, my wife and I had a great experience. Our server was very knowledgeable and friendly. Our food was delicious and even in the large space it felt very intimate.
The host and hostess were welcoming and took us right to our table. Our waitress was prompt and took great interest in helping us order what we wanted- Legal has always been and still is, wanting their customers to be happy. And we were- Scallops and tuna were delicious, cooked perfectly-sushi was so fresh and tasty too! My request for steamed vegetables was granted- and perfect! Wine was yummy-
Thank you to all for making our evening great!
My swordfish was dry
Our server bashti was acceptable but certainly not welcoming helpful or enthusiastic
My wife’s halibut was good as was the garden salad
excellent food and service, very nice table next to a window on the porch
