Legal Sea Foods - Chestnut Hill
Dinner at the bar on Sunday night was a lot of fun. The food service and ambiance were great and the Patriots won !
Service and food was excellent. Dining room was cold our last two visits (both within the last week). You’d think the manager would notice people wearing their winter jackets while dining on a Saturday night.
Our servor, Emily, was phenomenal. Timely, informative and kind. Thank you!
Pleasant lunch with friends
We loved our waiter. He gave good recommendations for wine and was really helpful. The sashimi tuna appetizer was excellent! We love the new Chestnut Hill location for the food, wine and ambiance; the food is so much better than Legal C-Bar in Dedham (used to be very good).
Service was lacking in initial attention, but prompt with food delivery. The quality of food was a disappointment from LS standards; particularly the fried items, which were covered in limp and un flavorful batter--likely a sign of insufficient heat in the frying oil. The fresh oysters (local, from Duxbury), not requiring preparation or cooking, were delicious.
Go to this location regularly with very good results. This time however we were dissapointed. Perhaps because we were seated in the less than full rear section? A request for extra dressing for a salad took 20 minutes! Another salad (caesar) was taken to go; upon delivery, it was lettuce only - no dressing, no croutons, no cheese. Will try again and hope for better.
Fantastic dinner out!
As always, the fish was outstandingly fresh and cooked well
We enjoyed it, but it was more casual than expected. I would describe it as one up from fast food.
Too expensive and food is not good enough.
Nice cocktails. Nice servers.
Excellent service and food
My husband and I dine at Legal seafood 2-4 times a month. We enjoyed a fabulous dinner 2 nights prior to this at Legal in Charles Square. We were meeting friends in Chestnut Hill Saturday evening.
Seating in the back room, which initially we were pleased because we hoped the noise level would be low.
The room was freezing. We asked the waitress to inform staff and her response was, " it's fine for me.". One of our party sat with his winter coat on throughout the meal. We were all cold. I noticed others in the room with their coats on.
I wish we had been more assertive regarding this. I wished we didn't generously tip, as we always do. When I thought about the evening I was sorry we weren't more vocal.
The 4 of us were just happy to be together.
We will choose another of the excellent options in Chestnut Hill next time we get together.
Food is always superb. Service was spot on...very consistently great...go there!
Food excellent. We were freezing next to the window!
As long time customers of Legal Seafood, we were extremely disappointed in the quality of food we got- from appetizers to the main courses.
The food was tasteless. The fried calamari we ordered tasted anything but calamari. More like eating bread crumbles.
The fried haddock & grilled assortment platter were supper disappointing as well. We both did not finish our plates. The fries on both dishes were so stale and you could just sense how unfresh they were.
We dine out at least 4 nights a week. Today's experience by far was the worst in years.
Very limited menu because of failure of stoves in kitchen. We were not warned until we got there. Most everything available was fried. Not pleasant.
Very disappointing! Indifferent bartenders. Terrible side Caesar. 16.50 for 6 little shrimp unattractively presented with little bit of cocktail sauce. And so noisy!
Perhaps a tad off because grill down - but really no excuses.
When we arrived at Chestnut Hill, Legal Seafoods on time for our reservation, we were told that the restaurant’s grill and part of it’s steamers were out of order. We were celebrating my daughter and some people in our party were considering leaving and choosing another restaurant. We decided to stay and tried to find alternative dishes that were still available. Our waiter assisted as and explained that the grill and steamer had malfunctioned three days before we were there. The restaurant was waiting for the parts from the manufacturer to arrive. I had made a reservation in advance and wondered why we had not been contacted, about the broken cooking appliances in advance. Although the dishes we ordered were “Legal Quality”,and our waiter was also outstanding, I am disapppointed that we had not been contacted in advance. I have always enjoyed the variety of choices and excellent menu at Legal but we would have switched our location to one of their other locations. My daughter was visiting from Wyoming and we were all looking forward to specific choices that were not available. I hope that Legal never experience a malfunction again, but I do think contacting customer’s with Open Table should have been alerted to the situation.
The Glidden Oysters where great. The stuffing in my baked stuffed lobster was exceptionally GREASY, way overpriced and small for the $75.00 cost. Side dishes were good, our server was very good! The haddock was good not great and also a very small portion. It’s not the legals of the 70’ and 80’s
Grill was broken. Music way too loud. Food that was available was very fair.
We usually have a wonderful dinner but on sat eve your kitchen had problems and my dinner was not too good Your manager Janeek took care of the problem and was exceptionally helpful..and replaced the dinner with a salad that i ordered..
The grille and sautee stations were down, but we were given a courtesy call hours before our reservation asking if we wanted to reschedule. We ended up keeping it and had a wonderful dinner of oysters and sushi! It was great.
Smoked salmon appetizer terrible. Crispy piece of toast with a thin swipe of avacado, very thinly sliced salmon, topped with a few crispy capers.
Flavorless. No accoutrements ie: soured cream, chopped onion, chopped egg. Not worth the money! Waiter nicely took off the bill.
Popcorn shrimp. Shrimp fair, dip terrible, VERY salty, VERY spicy hot. Had not had lunch that day so I did eat some of the shrimp and kept trying the dip. Left a bad taste. Not worth the money!
We had come to
Legal quite a few months ago and ordered Anna’s scrod. It came out mushy and not desirable to eat. We decided we would not return to LSF. So we thought we’d try again after seeing a movie .
Very disappointing! Legal has always been a fine restaurant, a place we looked forward to going. Not anymore.
We mentioned the popcorn shrimp to manager on the way out. She said she would relate the message
Overall good although the new avocado toast option was not so good. Was too light on avocado and need to be more mashed up and salmon was minimal. Toast needed to be softer bread. Standards are high so they need to make some adjustments to this dish
When food can be neither grilled nor sautéd you are not really serving father menu. Needs to say every meal other than the fried clams was disappointing.
We love tuna burgers and order it for dinner even though it is not on the menu.
Always a treat
The quality of the fish is very high, the preparations are pretty traditional, the cocktails and wine choices are excellent!
Our waiter Jackson was exceptional.
Excellent quality, service and cleanliness. The sushi boat was delicious.
Good food but frequently rushed service.
It's a bit loud, but the food is never less than excellent.
Love it!Our only complaint is that the booths in the dining room are too far from the table. We tried moving them but they don't move. So one person is close to the table and the other person must sit forward at the edge in order to eat. Thanks!
Great food and service as always. Go-to fish place.
Always great fish. Love the lounge area and don’t care for the main room.
Seated promptly. Never disappointed at Legal!
Food was good portions were small. The shellfish was excellent fresh . If you don’t like your fish well done request rare!
Good food, service and a fair price
