Legal Sea Foods - Chestnut Hill
Legal Seafood never fails for perfect evening with family. It offers choices for the whole family. We do miss the "old" Legal Seafood but the new layout is slowly growing on us.
My wife and I had the shrimp Pad thai which is a winter special - fabulous!!! In fact, we wound up recommending it the table next to us - great dinner!
Why no open table points? It’s a factor in restaurant selection.
Legal is just a never-disappoints restaurant. Top shelf! Thank you!!
Great! Food, service and overall excellent evening!
Great table great food
I always like your mashed potatoes and the scallops were excellent. It's a great atmosphere for catching up with friends. I can't wait to try the outdoor deck in the summer!
Had an overdressed chopped Greek salad that had way too many olives and shrimp that were salty and tasted like they were cooked yesterday. Legal seafoods is not what it used to be. Seafood market is also very disappointing. Get your fresh fish elsewhere.
Our food, soup, desserts and drinks were great. Our waiter Gil, made the experience even better.
Birthday ...dinner was delicious ....waitress wonderful and accommodating to all our requests!
Wonderful as usual. My friends and I had a lovely evening. Thank you
I was a little surprised we've actually been to this legal seafoods a couple of times and it's usually excellent.this time was not as good as I was a little bit surprised you see the Burlington store is the one that has the issues. So we started off with the fish chowder which was very good but still I always complain about the child is being a little thicker than they should be but that's me! Flavor on it was fine that was one thing in the definitely was more fish than usual so that's a step up if they just thin it out a little bit I'd love it. Richard had the shrimp tempura roll and it was surprisingly very dry. There was surprisingly very little flavor to it. It's normally been much better over at Burlington.I think they did not use a proper sushi rice the rice that they used dried out very very quickly sushi rice stays nice and moist and sticky. Richard had for his main the grilled salmon with shandong sauce on the side. That was very good borderline excellent actually. I had the seafood casserole which is normally excellent. This time around however it was really overdone and everything was stuck to the skillet. It was not quite poor enough to be sent back to the kitchen but it certainly didn't measure up to what I'm used to having at legal seafoods. They were quite busy but I kind of expect them to be able to handle that with ease. Will still go back but I always do but they need to pay a little more attention to detail this was definitely less quality than I was expecting.
My dish: shrimp & pasta was tasteless : the pasta was undercooked, while the mushrooms and shrimps were overcooked.
Legal Seafood is a very consistent restaurant. It is the go-to place if you want fresh delicious fish.
The only complaint I have is that it was my mother’s 89th birthday and we had 14 people (some from out of State) and we were not able to sit near each other. We were split into two parties and there was a table near us that could have sat 5. Instead that table only had two people there.
I asked to be seated in a quieter spot because I’m hearing impaired (I put this in the request). Pretty much ignored. We got there early, but still had to wait to be seated until the time of the reservation, even though tables were available.
Fresh seafood!! It’s the best around. The service is attentive and food generally arrives in short time from placing your order.
The bar is large and they serve dinner at the bar. The bartenders are very good!! Delicious food and cocktails.
Highly recommend it!!
Waitress was fantastic
I had avocado toast. The toast was so hard I could not cut it. B
As always, fresh, delicious and reliable. I typically get raw or steamed shellfish. My fellow Legal mates are also set in their ways: One always gets Anna’s cod, which is delicious with its buttery bread crumbs; the other gets the everything tuna served rare. Everyone leaves pleased and full. The rolls are outstanding (even the gluten free ones). Service is always great.
Wonderful food, Great Ambience, You could hear each other during the meal.
Our daughter chose Legal’s for her birthday dinner. The chowder was rich and delicious as it always is. The crab cakes were fresh and married well with the appetizer. The scallops were a very generous portion with delicious farro and Brussels sprouts on the side. We shared some ice cream bon bons for dessert. It was a nice end to the evening.
When we arrived We had to wait 10 minutes for our table.
Service was great and food was wonderful
Though our server was nice, he lacked attention to detail. We placed the order then I changed my mind and repeated the final order before he left. He served my husband his appetizer and left. The next time we saw him, he wanted to serve my entree since it was ready but I asked about my appetizer. He told me I canceled the order which I did not. He did stop by to say the app would be out in a 2 minutes & delivered it. Once I completed the app, the main course was presented without much time before courses. I think mine was just reheated since it had been ready before the app because the noodles were glued together. We did not see him again until he said he would fill my water but then took my signaling to get his attention. Not the best experience we have had at your restaurant. It will be awhile before I wish to return.
Great as always!
We have long been patrons of this location, but less so in the new spot...bit too loud, bit too bright. The recent dinner was, as usual though, filled with good fish, but after a lengthy conversation with the waiter about my wife's gluten-free need, he did not process the order on the computer as such. Her plate came out served by a waiter (whom we happened to know from other visits), and we knew enough to question why a manager didn't bring out the plate as is the custom at Legal's for gluten-free orders. The first query we got back from the first waiter who had taken the order was whether the gluten-free request was only a desire and not medically necessary (i.e. why can't you just eat what we brought you) which I thought was tactless, but we clarified that my wife has diagnosed celiac disease and needs gluten-free preparation (in fact one of the reasons we go to Legal's is we can depend on that). We were told a new plate would be prepared and would be rushed through. We saw the waiter continually checking but it was 24 minutes until we got the second GF plate by which time, even eating slowly, I had finished my meal. The manager who brought the food was very bubbly and of the "aren't we wonderful" attitude which I found irritating given (a) the mistake and (b) the delay. I pointed out it would have been more wonderful if we could have dined together rather than sequentially. The original waiter did apologize (the manager didn't seem to know what to say when I didn't go along with her bubbly nature), but my wife finished 1/2 her plate as I sat still irritated. However when the check was presented there was no charge for her order at all....a lovely professional gesture very true to Legal's but, frankly, I would have preferred had we been told this at the time the second plate came out by the manager as part of the apology...would have been more gracious that way for them to acknowledge the slip-ups and would have gone aways to resolve irritation.
The food quality was between poor and fairly good. Grilled arctic char and clam chowder were the best items of the 3 meal ordered. The cheddar polenta was fairly good but consisted of two small pieces that looked thrown onto the plate along with a clump of unseasoned plain spinach. The baked stuffed shrimp seemed as though it had come from 1965, very old style and heavy on stuffing. It came with plain white rice--huh? Why? Fried squid appetizer was really lousy, the batter not crisp and the squid tepid. Did it sit around or do they just not know how to fry? The crab cake was just OK, served with a salad that had greens and a ton of dried cranberries, very dull. It was supposed to include walnuts but had only one. The service was strange and the server was unacceptably familiar. She slammed things down forcefully on the table, called people "love" and came around twice asking how the food was so far. I've had better meals there in the past. Prices are up and quality is down. I won't be returning.
We were very disappointed with our meal at Legal Sea Foods on New Years Eve. The lite clam chowder and fish chowder were so so. The salmon and avocado on toast was not as fresh as expected. Fried oysters had too much breading and not worth $17.95.. grilled trout and artic char were fresh and done correctly but both were very bland. The banana foster and ice cream was the best part of the meal. We have had excellent meals at Legals in the past so it’s surprising that this one was not enjoyable.
Pricey but it's legal.
Even though we were on time for our reservation, we had to wait. Legals was overbooked. Hostess offered us a table in the “ Lounge”, ie. Bar dining area. High ceilings and hard surfaces make for a LOUD room. It was just awful. Difficult to have a dinner conversation. Waiter rushed us ordering and with food delivery. But, when we needed more drinks and silverware, he was not around. Nor did he check in with us. Please note, the food was excellent. That’s why we are so disappointed. The new Chestnut Hill Legal Seafood location is crowded, cold with a corporate cafeteria like decor. It feels like a big sardine can in both rooms: Pack ‘em in ! So sad, we were devoted to the previous location. We will not be back. We will try the Capital Grill which has good seafood and a better dining experience. We will miss this Legals. We still love the other locations. Chestnut Hill is not a welcoming experience for a nice dinner out.
The service and kid menu were great. We enjoyed our dinner and would love to come back again.
Food was very good quality. However, would have appreciated another vegetarian entree option besides jasmine rice/tofu dish.
My family enjoyed their meal here today . We are visiting from out of town and always look forward to eating at Legal seafood . The hostess seated my family of 8 on a long table . Our server was excellent , accommodating our needs and requests . I would not expect anything less than what we consistently receive when we dine at Legal seafoods . Thank you for a wonderful meal and excellent customer service . It was a great meal on the last day of 2019! Thank you !!
Consistently excellent fresh seafood prepared in a classic manner
We had a lovely retirement dinner for my husband. We all enjoyed chowder and delicious seafood. The waiter was very attentive and brought us extra rolls to have with the chowder. He even split the bowl of fish chowder into 2 cups so my husband and I could share it.
We love Legal and will be back soon.
Everything was great but the steamed mussels appetizer was the best of all!
Great fish in atrium-like atmosphere with fine professional service. Always consistent.
My wife and I went to Legal Seafoods in Chestnut Hill before heading to a movie. Our server was great, the food was great (I highly recommend the grilled trio of fish served with grilled shrimp and scallops), and, most of all, we were not rushed even though it was busy for Christmas .
Great food and friendly service. We like the window/bar area. Only thing that maybe could help would be higher seats to better reach the high top tables.
We enjoyed our meal at legal Sea foods to celebrate Christmas Eve. Our server was very attentive and knowledgeable, we were seated, waited on and received our food in a timely manner, we had a nice table next to the window and enjoyed the quality of the food. We will definitely plan to return.
