About Legal Sea Foods - Braintree – Forbes Road
Our new location in Braintree is making a splash. Designed to evoke memories of vintage seafood restaurants, the space offers as many seating options as fish in the sea. Most notable are the three bars – including an oyster bar and food bar along the exposed kitchen – to satisfy any thirst (or hunger) for fun. In warm weather, a glass wall slides back to a large patio.
Our menu includes all the Legal Sea Foods classics, but also some specialties of the house that will reel you in. And our late night menu, available Friday and Saturday, begins two hours before close.
We’re located right off of Route 93 in South Shore Place, across the street from South Shore Plaza.

Legal Sea Foods - Braintree – Forbes Road Ratings and Reviews
Three of us met for lunch. The restaurant ambiance is quite pleasant. Legal has a great selection of fresh seafood. I had a cup of Legal's excellent clam chowder and a dozen cherrystone clams. My friend was happy to see fish chowder on the menu and had a cup as well as an order of chicken wings prepared as she requested without the Kung pao sauce. My other friend also enjoyed some clam chowder and a generous dish of shrimp scampi which she very much enjoyed and took about half of it home with her to enjoy again. The waitress was upbeat and efficient. Two of us shared a dessert of five ice cream bonbons (love them) and our other friend had a very large dish of blood orange sorbet which she could only eat about half of. A delightful lunch experience was had by all.
Had a reservation and was seated right away. Chowder was so hot that while the flavor was good it wasn’t enjoyable to eat. Very crowded so kitchen was behind. Consequently when entrees finally came neither was very good. Waitress spent most of the night apologizing. New computer system caused a glitch and gift card we used wouldn’t go through until manager took over.
Dinner to celebrate two birthdays was not nearly as good as usual. Seafood casserole was dry, broccoli had VERY hot spice on it that burned my mouth. When the waitress brought replacement broccoli, it was cold. Kind of disappointed in their quality that night.
Busy night. Glad we tried the featured wine. It was delicious. Great fresh oysters local. The special bay scallops were tasteless with dry crumbs. Scallops were not local MA and were disappointing. Side dish of potatoe and squash was mush. Had to get a side of butter to moisten . So dry. Nothing special for 130 bucks.
Never had a problem with service at a Legal Seafoods. This time was different. My friend complained that her baked stuffed lobster had too many onions. Server offered to talk with cook to see if they could redo it without onions. When the server returned with a newly prepared dish they had taken the old one away. The problem was that they did not give her the baked stuffed lobster but a dish that had tons of crackers chopped up along with shrimp and scallops, no lobster. When she told server that the dish contained no lobster, the server said that’s because she ate the lobster from the initial dish, (which she did not) therefore was not entitled to lobster. I could not believe what I was hearing. How dare they take her baked stuffed lobster and replace it with something else without saying anything. The server argued with us. The manager took my friend’s plate off the bill. It was not a good experience. It was decent of the manager to deduct cost, but my friend would have been happier with a baked stuffed lobster rather than a free meal of chopped crackers with shrimp and scallops.
My husband and I went on a Saturday night and it was not the same Legal we remembered. The menu has lost its variety and the quality has gone downhill. What happened to the nice rice pilaf with peppers and onions that was served years ago? It was delicious, why remove it and serve that God awful brown rice or that boring white rice? I wasn't impressed with the crab cakes, they were nothing to write home about. The loaded baked potato was a greasy mess, certainly not the kind of potato I would expect to be served at Legal. The restaurant in Chestnut Hill feels cozy, comfortable; the one in Braintree makes me feel like I am eating in a fishbowl, (no pun intended). I don't think I will be going back there for a long time.
This is my second time visiting a Legals restaurant in a month and my last time. The food was very salty and didn't taste fresh. The servers were nice but forgot the tarter sauce twice and when she bought it to the table she bought more then what we asked for.
I am a regular Legal visitor because I can trust them to deal with my food intolerances. They never disappoint me. The server & manager are caring and go beyond my expectations to be sure my meal is both safe and delicious.
The cocktails are good too!
I do wish it were a bit quieter to make conversation easier. Sitting at the bar helps.
This was my second visit to this Legal's location and it was excellent. Our server (Christie) was exceptional. We never felt rushed and she was extremely attentive. Our orders were served promptly and piping hot and our dinners (scallops, Arctic Char and shrimp) were all outstanding and prepared exactly as ordered. Highly recommended!
Everything was excellent! Our server was outstanding and provided superb service.
If I was asked about one thing that was not the best was the super nice broom sweeping guy with a broom and a plastic dust pan. He banged that dang thing so loud a hundred times. Save those for the back kitchen! Use the quiet push sweeper please!
It spoiled the ambiance. Music was a bit too loud too.
Food was also outstanding. The Patrone margarita was made flawlessly and presented the same! Brava!
Will be back again!
My husband and I ordered the seafood casserole; it was and remained uncomfortably hot to eat which burned our mouths on more than several bites. Our adult son had the fish and it was bland. He didn't like the spinach served on the side nor did he understand the grilled tomato. We also ordered mussels for an appetizer, but with the poor lighting, it was hard to see the slit opening to get to the meat inside. After all was said and done, the lighting was poor, the service was slow until the end when the bill needed to be paid and the place was very, very loud for a Sunday night.
