Legal Sea Foods - 7th Street
Legal Sea Foods has long proven that a consistent, high quality dining experience never goes out of style. With over 40 varieties of fresh fish and shellfish available throughout the year as well as an award-winning wine list, there’s no doubt why legions of fans have fallen hook, line and sinker. A bipartisan favorite, we have occupied the nation’s capital since 1995, anchored across from the Verizon Center and around the corner from the International Spy Museum, National Portrait Gallery and Chinatown.
Make waves at our racetrack-shaped bar or sup on seafood underneath the hull-like ceiling in our restaurant’s main dining room. Either way, be presidential and order a cup of our New England Clam Chowder; it’s been served at every Inauguration since 1981. Other accolades include being named “#1 Best Seafood Restaurant” in a nationwide poll by USA Today (2013).
Friday - Saturday: 11am - 12am
Sunday: 12n - 10pm
It was ok. Nothing special sadly. The food was ok and our waiter was a bit slow.
Probably the best seafood place in town in the moderate price range. Seafood is fresh and perfectly grilled, and sides are tasty. Really recommended for seafflood lovers.
Seafood was great and perfectly cooked. Got a grilled salmon with crab meat baked potato and spinach. Salmon was tender and tasty, as the sides. The restaurant is very stilish and just next door to the National Portrait Gallery.
Great Food. Helpful staff. Fantastic lobster. Good wine list
We’ve eaten at several Legal Seafood restaurants in Boston, first time here in DC,and happy to say this restaurant is as good as its Boston peers!Superb fresh seafood, great service, great value and pleasant ambience-the rare combination of excellent food and reasonable prices. You can’t go wrong with Legal Seafood!
Great food nice environment and very good service. Great spot for a nice dinner in DC
Food tasted great. Unfortunately my son, who is diagnosed celiac, ordered his food gluten free, got sick after eating his meal. The waiter said he made sure everything was gluten free, but it was not. Would definitely not recommend for those who are gluten free.
Johnnie is the best waiter! He consulted with the chef on my dietary restrictions and relayed them to me as well. The chef was clear that I should not eat a specific dish that I would have ordered! Johnnie was really great! Thanks for a great dining experience! I was by myself and appreciated his extra attention to detail. He is one of the best waiters ever and I eat out a lot! I love legal sea foods!
Delicious foods, kind staff
Our waiter was very prompt and saw to our immediate needs of time, menu food choices, and immediate service. This Leagl Seafood is my favorite location for my weekday dining needs.
We have a number of food allergies/food sensitivities and we’re delighted at how great the Restaurant accommodated us! We had a great waiter and our food was delicious! We will be back! Thank you to the Open Table app for providing room for us to note our allergies in advance of our visit! The waiter addressed our needs by reviewing what I had shared on the app to make sure he understood and had accurate information. Thanks again!
Server was awesome! Ambiance is a cross between upscale restaurant and fish grill. I don't think they've decided which they are.
Excellent seafood - wonderful clam chowder - server Nadim very attentive. The oyster crackers are fresh here which is a big step up on many restaurants.
Great lobster and service. Be nice to offer more than 2 rolls.
Great service and food loved everything about this location
The service at Legal Seafood is almost always good and this time was no exception. However the food was third rate as the mashed sweet potatoes were uneatable and the spinach was awful. The grilled salmon was good, but the portion for my full-priced meal was tiny. Another member of our party complained that the Seafood Casserole was rather poor. The decline of Legal Seafood is illustrated by the fact that we could not get a reservation for Founding Farmers, but walked in to a mostly empty Legal Seafood the same evening.
The food at Legal’s is excellent. However, we were seated at a table with a badly broken bench. Very uncomfortable. Steven, our waiter was excellent. Menu is more limited than in Boston and the suburbs. No fish chowder. No onion strings and more. Happy to go home to our Legal’s in Boston. Corporate should give this location some attention.
Large portion sizes. Their gluten free options are varied and they also offer gluten free rolls.
Food was fine, but we were underwhelmed. Our waiter wasn't all that attentive. It was an odd experience, and we likely won't be back.
Excellent on every service point, food and drinks. We were so happy to find a Legal Seafood while visiting Washington D.C.
This is a nice place and despite being a chain restaurant, it serves very good seafood every time we've been. It's not the best place value-wise, or ambience-wise, and doesn't have the most attentive wait staff, but it does give you a great piece of fish for lunch or dinner.
Love this place
The food was good, and the entree portions were appropriate. Not too small, but not large enough to have leftovers. I had the fisherman's platter, which was tasty, but it was mostly french fries. It came with calamari. The crab dip was delicious and large enough for our party of three to share.
The food is quite good but what makes this place special is the waitstaff. We needed a quiet table (hearing disability) and the staff had us try two tables until the staff was satisfied that we had the best one for us. And the staff continued to be attentive throughout.
Arrived early for reservations and was seated shortly of arrival. Food was excellent.
Seafood platter was over cooked. Manager did great service recoed
We had a great meal with the small seafood tower and the hot crab dip. The seafood tower was great and for 2 people was a good appetizer, but I wouldn't think it would feed up to 4 as the menu suggests. And it is a bit pricey at just over 30 dollars. The hot crab dip with seafood chips was very nice. Service was exceptional.
Service was slow.
Waiter was not engaging.
Food was just not good.
Great food and service
Clam chowder is my family’s favorite. Otherwise no real favorites on the menu.
Very good as always, but I was disappointed there were no Ipswich Clams. I’m from Boston and have been to legal’s several times. I was looking forward to Clams instead of Calamari.
Excellent service. Tasty gluten-free roll. Plump sizeable grilled shrimp were delicious.
because this place is known for it's awesome seafood, I would suggest that you check first, if there is something specific you are going for. We were all about the bucket of clams and not until AFTER we ordered, were we told there were no clams. All the same, the food we did eat was excellent and I would def recommend a stop!
I brought a business group that enjoyed their meals and the ambiance. Unfortunately, no real vegan options (I am a vegan), not even the Bang Bang Cauliflower wings, so I was subjected to an over dressed salad.
Food was great
Have the crab cakes...by far the best I've had in DC. Oysters and lobster always good.
It was a wonderful day, legal Seafood called about six (6) hours before the reservation time to confirm the time; and the meal was outstanding, the waiter was super and I was having dinner with a ex that I haven’t seen in seven (7) years. It was a marvelous day!!
Legal Seafood has been a regular visit for us in D.C. for the past 6 years. Our group
is always 7-12 people and we are always seated and served quickly. The food is
consistently excellent. Thank you Legal Seafood for maintaining exemplary service
Great spot and excellent seafood. Pre-concert meal and will absolutely be on the list before the next one. Thanks!!
Lobster was perfect but the drawn butter really made it that much better. So good. Husband had fish & chips with Tabasco and they were excellent as well. 14 yr old grandaughter got linguine with shrimp which she said was wonderful. The 8 yr old ordered fish sticks. Her response when I asked how they were: "Heavenly and they are literally the best fish sticks i've ever had, Grandma!" I think she liked them. LOL
Nice dinner before the U2 concert at CapitalOne Arena. I did not like my Bloody Mary, It tasted like Tomato Juice, with giant clumps of horseradish, no after flavor. We did enjoy the Strawberry Shortcake dessert.
