It was late but it was very bland and nothing like the Legals I have been to many times in Boston. Was a little surprised. It was missing something. Very disappointed they didn't have Haddock - very. Can't get it on west coast but always at Legal.
We had a very nice meal. The food and ambience were good. The service was only adequate as the server had to be reminded a couple of times about missing items and she was somewhat slow. The scallops were particularly good.
We were excited for this night because we were going to see Pink in concert. Our table was ready when we arrived and we sat down for drinks. I found it odd that I had to ask questions about the market vegetable and the seasonal salad because our waiter was training another server. The ladies ordered and then it was my turn. I ordered a Caesar Salad and was told they were out of Romaine lettuce. WHAT? So i ordered another salad. I ordered the Filet with green beans, shrimp and scallops. I asked if I could get the seafood fried. I was told I could. We ordered another round of drinks that took a long time to arrive. When the meal came out I was served a Filet, spinach and grilled seafood. WHAT!? I told our waiter I had someone's food. He looked confused when I said those are some funny looking green beans trying to add levity to the mistake. I kept the grilled seafood and he brought me green beans. My food was good, not what I ordered but good. When you spend $300 dollars for dinner I expect a higher level of service.
Great location, Great drinks, Great food. An overall wonderful experience.
Arrived before a hockey game for dinner with a reservation for 615, we were seated around 620. We ordered one appetizer and entre each. Took forever, I blame the serve and the management because he just took forever getting our drinks to us and our entres out to us were late and not hot. Honetsly, on game day you need a food runner so the server can focus on the tables and the food gets out in a timely fashion. Two other tables around us, who had two people like us, who came in later than us had their orders way before we did and left with plenty of time.
My halibut chop was cooked well, but was a bit bland. My wife's crab cakes had too many breadcrumbs relative to crabmeat. Sometimes I get the feeling Legal Seafood struggles with it's identity -- upscale seafood place or casual place to get seafood. It's hard to do both since fancier places will have better meals ( and charge more) and more casual places will have better prices. It's still a fun place to go.
I ordered cod fish was lacking salt or seasoning my wife agreed. I had better fish at carry out.
It was delicious. Very pleased
We had a lovely dining experience at Legal Seafood. And I was particularly grateful because my wife has celiac as well as dairy and soy allergies which often makes dining out very difficult. The waiter worked with her to help choose a meal that was safe for her dietary restrictions yet was moist and tasty. I love seafood and was impressed with the freshness and originality of the dishes that I ordered. We will definitely be coming back.
It was awesome! The waiter was fantastic, and the food was great!!
Excellent choice with wonderful food and service that was top notch. Can't wait to experience the same in Boston.
It was great
Food and service were excellent. My only complaint is that I was seated by the kitchen. Between the kitchen noise and the noise of the surrounding tables, it was very hard to have a conversation.
Business trip to D.C. and this was our best meal of the week. Great food & great service!
We've been to this location before but usually we go to the location in Crystal City since that's closer to where we live. We were going to see a play at the Sidney Harman Hall so the location in Chinatown/Gallery Place is only a couple of blocks away. The food was good as usual and as usual, we got the clam chowder to start. We were there early, at 5:00, and the restaurant was pretty empty. By the time we left, before 7:00, the restaurant was getting busy. Our only problem was that the food arrived too quickly. We felt like we were being rushed. Just a few minutes after we ordered, our soup arrived. Before we had a chance to finish our soup, the entrees arrived. That's a little too fast. The timing of the food wasn't well-paced. Then when we finished our entrees, the server didn't ask if we wanted dessert or coffee. We had to flag the server down to tell her we wanted tea. So it definitely seemed like they didn't want us to linger at the table. We felt rushed the whole time.
We decided to check out Legal Sea Foods for an anniversary dinner. I had been to the Atlanta LSF and enjoyed it so hoped DC would be a similar experience. It was mediocre at best. The food was average, chain seafood, and my boyfriend's lobster was full of tomalley and roe, and it looked disgusting. I had the seafood casserole, and it was fine-nothing fantastic. The buffalo shrimp appetizer was fine but very fast food-esque. The service was not great. Our waitress barely checked on us-even when my wine was empty. Additionally, there was a homeless woman selling flowers in the restaurant, and multiple customers saw her attempt to remove tips from a table. She was escorted out, but it made me very sad to watch this occur. Overall, this restaurant is not a good pick-especially with so many other options.
I had the clam chowder and the garlic shrimp. The soup was really good, lots of chunks of clam which is nice. The garlic shrimp was good but not my favorite. Though definitely filling and worth it if you like olive oil dressings on your pasta.. not very "garlic" tasting.
Great food for us gluten free folks. I’ve not had any reactions and I’m celiac. It’s our go to good food place before a CAPS game. They get you in/out for game time.
First time trying out DC Legals. It was tasty as expected. The dining space is very cramped. Their service was excellent and very accommodating.
Made reservations on Open Table since we were going down to the CAPS game and wanted to eat at Legal Seafood before the game! SO glad we made reservations. There was a group in front of us with no reservations and they were told the wait was over 2 hours! When I said I had made reservations on Open Table they pulled us up and took us to be seated! Also, I can't recall the name of our server, but she was great! Delicious food! We will return!
Food and service was outstanding! My first time at a Legal Seafood and cannot wait to go back.
If you have celiac disease or gluten intolerance, this restaurant is for you. I was amazed by the many gluten-free options offered. The gluten-free fish & chips and dinner rolls were to die for! The wait staff and chefs were great and very accommodating. Thank you for a wonderful dining experience at the 7th Street Washington D.C. location. :-)
I cannot day enough great things about our experience @ Legal Seafoods. We hit a ton o traffic on the way and called to let them know. We were 45 minutes late but even though they were really busy still seated us right away.
My wife has a gluten-allergy, and is hesitant to eat out at restaurants. The staff took such care to ensure that her meal would be safe, and it gave her tremendous comfort throughout the dining experience. The manager himself delivered one of the plates to ensure everything was kept clean, and it was wonderful.
Great food. Very slow service.
We have been to the locations in ATL, Boston and Summerville and this one did not disappoint. Their crab cakes are very hard to beat.
Service could have been better, my grilled shrimp & scallops were overcooked & tough. I’ve had better at Captain D’s. Very disappointed.
Excellent, delicious, safe gluten free options.
We generally love Legal Seafood and try to eat there whenever we are in a town that has one. This particular location was a big disappointment. Perhaps it was because it was the night of the Capitals hockey game but the food and service just was not up to par. We ordered Calamari as an appetizer and never got it...It wasn't even on the bill so i assume our waitress forgot. My husband and i both got the crab cake combo. I had to send mine back because it was cold. The crab cake was not cooked all the way through, the scallops were tiny and barely cooked. The shrimp was barely cooked and none of it was up to temp. My husband said his wasn't hot but he chose not to complain. My daughters broccoli was essentially raw rather than steamed. The cheese sauce on my sons broccoli was congealed and gross (but he's 13 and didn't complain as he was so hungry). This location is not up to the standards of the Legal locations we've been to in Boston. :(
This Legal Seafood never disappoints. I always get a good, safe gluten-free meal while I am here, and I feel like the staff and management take extra precautions to ensure that my meal is prepared appropriately. Very good service as well - always enjoy my meal here!
We wanted a quiet Good Friday lunch. The restaurant was short staffed, and extremely busy for early afternoon. Took too long for food and drinks to come. We were lucky as we watched the waitress finally pass out the wrong drinks to 2 different tables. It was a nightmare. I understand about holiday crowds but it was crazy. Lucky for her all the customers were annoyed but didn’t act up!
this place was terrible ...we were deciding between joe's seafood and legal ....we couldn't get into joe's for a couple of days - and we found out why (they know what they're doing and legal does not). I'll spare you the full monty ...but the long and the short of it was that the kid's lobster was the best meal of the night with some of the worst service we've experienced for 200 dollars (family of 5). Do yourself a favor, save 200, spend it on joe's .
Everything was delicious. I've been t another Legal Sea Food, so wanted to eat here on vacation. My crab stuffed shrimp was delicious and my daughter loved her (very large) salmon dinner. The surprise was my grandson's hamburger "kids" meal which included corn on the cob and grapes. He said it was the best hamburger meal he's ever had.
Fried oysters were good. Cream of Crab could have used more crab but was tasty. Stuffed Shrimp are good but better at Chrisfields in Silver Spring and I made better ones. Unfortunately the kitchen made the wrong dish for one dinner and the other diner finished his meal by the time the stuffed shrimp were done. Desert was comped. Chocolate Mouse was good as was the carrot cake.
We loved Legal Seafood. We loved it so much we went Friday and Sunday of our trip. I think the management and the team there do a great job.
One of the best dining experiences I have had in DC. TONS of gluten free options (including gluten free rolls for the table), accommodating staff, and the food was unbelievably delicious. Already planning our next visit.
Wife's crab cakes were excellent. My bass was a great disappointment.
Walking distance to Capital one arena before concert. Book ahead!
We had an excellent waiter, Steve, who served us very well despite the restaurant being quite busy and willingly offered suggestions of favorites from their specials and regular menus. Our meal absolutely delicious and the location, directly across from Capital One Arena, was ideal as we were able to walk across the street from Legal Sea Foods for our evening concert event.
Disappointed with cropping: mainly mussel shells, little substance. Crab cake small with skimpy sides. We left still hungry after eating our meals.
